Letter from the President: Brand research project​

President Dave Barham provides an update on the club's brand research project.

To all our Fans and Members,

The Essendon Football Club has a proud history as one of the oldest clubs in the AFL and we have a strong recognisable brand.

We are conducting a preliminary research project which centres around the Essendon brand and its elements.

The research project is in its early phase. Members and supporters have been and will continue to be canvassed as part of this process, in addition to the engagement of multiple Essendon Football Club stakeholders.

We have a proud history of more than 150 years and a deep connection to our members and supporters. This is and will always be respected and embraced.

There is no immediate action to change the club logo or any elements of the club brand. This is a longer-term project with significant work to be completed.

We proudly recognise that our future legacy begins with our proud history.

We will always be called the Bombers.

Because they have the propensity for continually shooting ( can I use that term ?) themselves in the foot. I thought this had stopped , they seemed to have successfully muffled sheedy and then come out with this !

primarily because the current logo sucks balls.

But moreso, if you talk about name and theme song, well consider that the Demons no longer use a demon, they use their shield. Blues don't use a blue, whatever the **** that is, they use their monogram. Power don't use lightning etc, they use
the PA thing. There's probably more examples too, but none of those teams felt the need to change their name or theme song as a result.

Personally, I don't have a moral issue with a bomber. Maybe an old school one can look ok, but purely from a design perspective I just don't see it. Anything that does get used will look shit in a few years regardless if it passes muster now, which I doubt anyway.

Either use the sash, or keep the 150 year one which I have always really liked. Begone with the crashing 90s grey plane that isn't even a bomber
 
Found this logo laying around and just added Essendon to it.

If we wanted to modernize the logo but still use the Bomber, then may as well use a 1940s-era one. That's when we got the nickname, after all.

I thought it was modelled off the stealth bombers (something like the F-117 fighter bomber)

I would be fine with the sash but do like the 150, a combo of both maybe.

The teeth make it appear to be tough and angry, but look at the eyes. There’s a lot of pain and misery behind those eyes. It’s perfect
