It is Stevie J talking Dylan Stephens on MMM today. 1:11:50 in. Take that for what it's worth.

'He will be representing the Kangaroos in 2024'

100%

It’s an absolute meh issue for a club like Sydney.

When you ve got absolute and total access to elite talent for bargain prices every year , plus can offer some of the most unique opportunities outside of football (basically only unique to them , lesser extent the other 3 northern clubs) busting on top 5 picks really is no biggie.
Haha, what the absolute **** is this rubbish? Elite talent every year? Unique opportunities available to us? What?

McKay to Sydney on enough cash to get North pick 3
North compensate Sydney by giving them pick 16 for Stephens
Sydney trade 16 for Grundy and Melbourne pay a big wack of his salary balancing out the overpayment on McKay.
Why would North do that?

McKay will easily get 1st round compo regardless

Or… McKay to Sydney/ess/hawthorn with the cash required to get him there, which will unlock pick 3 regardless.

North then pay what’s fair for Stephen’s which is probs a pick late 30s and don’t fleece themselves for no apparent reason.

McKay might nominate Sydney on 700k because he wants to play finals which would only be band 2. North negotiate by offering Stephens for pick 16 getting Sydney to add more cash to get band one. Sure other clubs might offer McKay more cash but I think Sydney may not. Its just an idea.

Yes he is going to turn down half a million dollars + to "Play Finals"

Sydney will be similar to the rest of them

Essendon yes. Hawthorn yes. But they probably are not playing finals for a while. But Sydney is playing finals and McKay to Sydney is not a guaranteed band 1 imo. McKay will nominate who he wants. If it is Sydney, well North might have to grease the wheels a bit.

Half a million? Is someone going to play him 1.2 million? Not sure if you last line is true.
Not sure maths is your strong point,

If Sydney is 700k over 5 years and Essendon/Hawthorn is 800k over 5 years that's 100k more 100k x 5 is 500k 500k is half a million dollars take into account there could be a difference in years and monetary value and yes half a million + would be what he is turning down to "play finals"

Hawthorn beat half the top 8 teams this year and almost beat GWS twice to make it 5/8 they aren't that far off

Na maths is something im good at. But nice personal attack. But in the end its only 50k a year after tax. Plenty of players have turned that down or bigger amounts to play with a club of their choice.

Which is still 250k +
Its a lot of money for me. But for Mckay over the next 5 years, there are many other factors that may out weigh that. Life style, finals, weather and anonymity might be more important. But if you read my original post he was still getting his money after North traded in Stephens.

His money has nothing to do with the Stephens trade so it is not relevant

Swans and Bombers have plenty of room in their cap to ensure they don't have to be nutting out trades with North. For the sake of say 250k (I've seen it mentioned due to McKay being underage he only needs around 740-750k) it doesn't make sense to give up any trade collateral. The reason clubs target free agents like this as opposed to players simply out of contract is the appeal of the word "free". Any club in the race will want this deal done and signed off by the AFL before trade week kicks off so they can focus on other deals with their picks intact.
