I'd be pretty happy about our prospects but would still feel its a missed opportunity to skip over such a good draft this year. Still no clue who we could get to fill the 2nd KPD role given there hasn't really been a name linked to us outside of Haynes.

Would have Williams before Switkowski every day of the week...

We have actually kept open the possibility of keeping a bloke who has played 2 games in 3 years, ahead of Young. We must have other options that are all but guaranteed and we wait to see who they are.

Did anyone else notice Voss on the bench when Logan Morris took a "pack" mark, under ridiculously little pressure? Cowan was the direct opponent, but Young was just behind Morris. Voss turned to his left and said something to Cripps who was on the bench. Young was insipid in that contest and it is his major failing - he does not impact contests that don't involve his direct opponent.

Kennedy trade makes a lot of sense to me. We have a glut of slow onballers. He would have more trade value than Hewett. We need draft and trade capital. And as I have said for three seasons now, our midfield needs a mini rebuild.

Keeping aside what their trade value is, are we sure that is the right decision though? Hewett > Kennedy?

If you are picking a player purely on one midfield role, then I agree Hewett is ahead. If you are picking a player on not just that role, but their X factor, ability to take a mark, hit a harder target and kick more goals, then it's Kennedy.

I think Hewett is probably the better field kick but agree on the rest. For Carlton, I personally still see Kennedy's best role as a 60/40 forward/mid.

If Cleary's report is true and that's what the club want but Kennedy wants more midfield minutes then we are better off trading Kennedy. Because as purely an inside mid, especially when you take into account the defensive work they each do, Hewett comes out on top imo.

Worst kick inside 50 in the entire afl.

He's a shocking kick and is slow. He's clearly the kind of player that we need to move past - but we like him so it's a sucky decision. Unfortunately, he's not a high possession getter, isn't a good disposal and doesn't provide much run - if any. All weaknesses in our side. Yes he plays hard, gets dirty, plays contested footy and does what he can for the team, and that's admirable, but we can't be held to that kind of player if we're serious about making top 4 and beyond.

It's the sad brutality of the business at times. His game is like a microcosm of our team. Play hard, contested footy, but doesn't have good speed or disposal. With that description you could be talking about Kennedy or the Carlton Footy club and be right both times. I know it sounds negative, and I do like Kennedy so it sucks, but we need something else.

If no one wants him to the point of stumping up a fair trade then great, but just know you'll be a depth/rotational injury cover player and not a starting 22. Tbf, knowing us playing as injury cover means he'll probably get 20+ games again anyway...

Of course you do (plus or minus steak knives), unless you need that pick for Petracca....

History shows us what you get at 11 is a total lottery as to whether they become a player.

Houston is at the peak of his powers - he gets us into top 4 and a flag tilt....

You speak as if trading in players is a slam dunk. Mcgovern, Williams, Cerra, Thomas, Martin. None of them genuine mids or key position, all high salaries and some first round draft picks

How do we look to improve our midfield, draft wise imo the small group of certain midfield types are early picks, then we have a spread of different options that play other positions that look too possess the right attributes are suited for the midfield position…

I think improving our midfield, small forwards, KPD and speed/ball use on the flanks all in one off season will be extremely difficult. In my opinion the midfield is easiest to paper over with some additional rotations from players like Elijah, Cowan, Docherty, Fogarty, any other good half forwards we may pick up etc.

Finding a quality quick mid who's ready to player year 1 will be extraordinarily difficult with all our other list needs imo so we may be best served finding value in flankers who can pinch hit on ball to spread the load.

Switkowski plays a totally different role. He's a high half forward who's game is built on pressure and creating scoring opportunities for others between the arcs, Williams is much more a forward pocket type who can hit the scoreboard himself and deliver the ball to a leading forward. Switowski is basically a 2nd Fogarty which would help our treacle paced midfield defend and pressure just as GWS send Daniels and Bedford up the field to assist Tom Green, Cogs etc who are no faster than our mids.

Entitled to have your own opinion on him though. Would prefer Rosas but sounds like he's off the market, but I'd still be pretty excited to see our pressure game in action with Switkowski and Fogarty in a team together.

Have a feeling this one will play out quite publicly.

Might be one of those times we need to judge it by the final cumulative list outcome.

Just what we need club stakeholders getting involved in list management. Maybe they can agitate for malthouse to come in and coach again too

We had a bottom 4 backline in 2024... so I am in the "things can't get much worse down there" camp.

I don't rate Laverde at all, but Young is barely AFL standard, Durdin is terrible, and McGovern and Kemp can't play as KPD's.

We need to do something different.. but getting rid of fringe footballers only to replace them with other fringe footballers doesn't seem like a recipe for success.

I see Nick Haynes as depth, not a best 22 footballer in a premiership side.

I live in hope that we've got something more cooking.

Thought MK’s marking was ordinary this season, very clunky (but not clunking them).

SDK would be 1 x 1st rounder. Also, has some concerns on his knee. If disgruntled = hard to keep.

Kennedys kicks have way more penetration and accuracy but he is another that likes to long bomb into f50.

Hewetts kicks are generally more loopy (too high).

I'd hope the club be even bolder.

Trade 1 of Williams/McGovern, logic dictates they'll each miss 5-6 games in the season but would prove of some value elsewhere (I'd do Zac personally).

Get rid of Fantasia, better pay him out and would get better potential value in a speculative kid picked in the 4th round.
