If we crystal ball 4 years ahead. Do we have the makings of a premiership team? The point of this thread is not to argue who will still be playing for the tiges and in what position, but to look at players ages (at 2011), take into account their capability and see if Terry is actually onto something.

Personally I think the structure is there and is looking good. Note, some of the ages might be wrong.

B: King (27) Thursfield (25) Newman (29)

Hb Bowden (33) Polak (27) Mcguane (24)

C Polo (25) Foley (26) Tambling (25)

Hf Deledio (24) Hughes (24) Pettifer (29)

F Brown (33) Riewoldt (23) Edwards (23)

R Pattison (25) Connors (23) Jackson (25)

Extended int: Raines (25) Collins (23) Casserly (23) Coughlan (29) Graham (?) Clingan (?)

Possibly out due age: Johnson (33) Richardson (36) Tivendale (32) Tuck (30) Simmonds (33)

?? hyde (29) schulz (26) meyer (25) oakley-nicholls (23) white (24) petersen (24) moore (27) krakouer (28) bowden (30) howat (26)

That is almost our exact team last week.

A few things about the defence:

Jake King will be a tagger in the mould of Libba. He will not be a back pocket next year (Terry told Jake this and Jake told his mates about it).

Newman is way too unaccountable to be a defender. Must move up the ground in time where he can have 60m shots on goal and set up goals with his excellent kicking.

Polak may only be a 3rd tall - is yet to stop someone. He will be in the side for sure but I don't if it will be at CHB though.

Good work figuring out everybody's age... I don't like long-term prediction threads though. The ages of the players show that our team is on the right track IMO and this was the intention of your thread :thumbsu:

You have Tuck (30) Simmonds (33) & Johnson (33) out because of age yet have Brown and Bowden at 33 still playing. I would suggest that all 3 would still be playing if their bodies are up to it although they may not be in the best 22.

So at the very least we get the #2 draft pick in the 2007 draft and they turn out to be so rough don't play in the 2011 Grand Final?

Dude - it's 2011 you're talking about here. They say a week is a long time in football, well that's a long time x 208 you're talking about.

I mean at the close of season 2003 did you have Foley pegged as our primary midfielder and shoe-in for the Jack Dyer Medal in 2007? Was Deledio factored into your thinking back then? Or Kane Johnson?

I reckon it's an interesting thing to think about, but only in the conext of where our current list of players are headed in terms of position and longevity.

Any other speculation belongs in fairyland.

The point of this thread was to mainly judge Terry Wallace's plan for list management.

Look at the ages of the players we will have... I don't think anybody is stupid enough to literally predict what the team will look like, this is more a rough idea of how old our players will be in 2011.

Kinda missing the point. In 2003 I would have looked at that team and said there were probably very few players in it who could be possible premiership players...

Of course its crystal balling but I think its interesting that even in 4 years time we still have the structure and right age bracket of a very good team.

OK, I can see that.

I think the title's misleading, but as a study of the age of our current list - yes this is a cool thread.

This must have been exactly the exercise Terry Wallace went through prior to delivering that (now infamous) press conference at the start of the season.

I've said it before that I don't think we'll get too many years more out of Richo. I think having Brown in the starting lineup at 33 might be optimistic considering the leg break and all, but hey, this is crystal ball gazing as already mentioned.

I think a good comparison is that of geelong. If you look at that list most the players there who are in their prime are the 80-150 gamers the 4-7 season players, they've managed to keep their list together add some younger players in the mix and its worked well for them.

Nice work, looks OK, allthough I'd love to see Richo still in regardless of age he deserves it for his effort all these years.

So none of our draft picks up untill 2011 won't get a game lol

People are taking this way too seriously.
It's a simple exercise showing which current players on our list would be able to play if we made the 2011 GF.
If you can tell me who we're gonna draft in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 -plus how they will perform compared with current players - then feel free
