Definitely a Big Footy thing, IMO.

A couple of years back, I spoke to the mother of a 2016 GF Swans player who said she (they) had no issue with the Dogs or with the GF result. Said she was surprised that I felt the need to ask about it.

It seems to boil down to three BF Swans Supporters, who constantly go on about it. They need to sit down and watch the game again, because it has obviously built up in their minds to being way out of reality. Yes like all games, some frees were missed, both ways, but the ones they go on about were not in their forward line, so how do they think getting those frees would win them the game?

The GF that shocked me was the Richmond v Adelaide one, Adelaide got the pineapple end in the first half, which seemed to knock them around, but I haven’t seen that game for a few years, so would need to watch it again.

This is not just a BF thing, I see comments constantly to articles in the Hun. Today for example the article on giving the media immediate access to coaches someone said it’s a Bulldog thing The next comment was simply 2016*. Somehow it becomes about the Dogs.

I see comments regularly on X. As soon as someone mentions the Dogs or 2016 the pile on starts.

To move the needle, Bevo gives the hard job on Kennedy to Libba, and sends Boyd to Ruck basically full-time

Those moves made the difference.

In response, Longmire had nothing.

Wallis played a number of run with roles prior to reinventing himself as a forward.
Gags even got a role a few times last year. Baz did a number on Cripps the year prior.

We send someone to a gun opposition interceptor in most games too. Ask Sicily what he thinks of Rhylee West for example.

I term tagging as a purely defensive role. I can't remember the last time we have ran someone in a purely defensive role on an opposition's best mid. To be fair though, I didn't see many games this year or last, as i've been in and out of the country.

I was just re-reading about Redders, Stacky and Sheahan a week or so ago.
The first awareness I had of test cricket was the 74/75 Ashes, and Redders, Tangles and Ross Edwards were my instant favourites. (All unsung heroes and great team players, too.)

For anyone of my vintage, Redders was a vital member of the late 60s/early 70s test teams, especially of the Chappell teams in 74/75 and 75/76. He was vice-captain under both Chappells, and a Victorian legend.

Redpath was a gentleman among a bunch of bogan thugs in that 74 series. Odd how the term Mankad came into being when Greg Chappell bailed an English batsman backing up without warning.

Boycott missed the 74 Ashes, rumoured to be annoyed at Denness taking the captaincy.

I met Ian Redpath at Geelong Amateurs a few years ago, nice unassuming fellow. I played against Graeme Yallop a few years ago, classy batsman and he could bowl a bit too. He received a raw deal by the NSW cricket mafia.

It's refreshing to watch the current New Zealand/England test. The Kiwis don't have the attitude the Aussies have, just get on with it, win or lose.

Nice to see two Yorkies getting runs, Joe Root is all class and Harry Brook should break a few records.

Love to see Ian Chappell still whining about Botham, shame Ian didn't finish the job.

Agree with all you said about Ian Redpath. From all reports he was an excellent human being and cricketer. Post Test career there are reports about him working all jobs at his cricket club. No job was beneath him and he always put the club and young players first. Vale Redders.
Unrelated but regarding your mention of “Mankad “, I have never understood the angst caused. The rules are written down clearly for all to abide by. If the batsman thinks he is above the rules tough luck. I get the spirit of cricket thing but imo playing within the rules is also covered by the spirit of cricket.

I grew up in the UK. Played a lot of cricket until my early 20’s. I didn’t know sledging was a thing until I came to Australia.
