Game Day Pre-season match thread - Bulldogs vs Hawks Thursday night in Tassie.

Was listening to radio coverage on SEN and was told the Hawks were just superstars and with our epic injury list, they would pretty much belt us.

Anyway...

Loved the game of Davidson. The competitiveness, the run and he never gives up.

Dolan did some nice things. Darcy is just going to be unstoppable at some point. Libba, well, he's just incredible.

Very positive and all with Bont sitting out 90 per cent of the game.

We turned up not trying to get injured in the 1st half, effort was subpar, not taking away how you guys played. Game was much better in the 2nd half and both teams got a solid workout in the end which was the aim.

When you look at what we offered tonight, then add Bont, Adz, Red, Marra, LJizz, Rhylee, Flea, Bailey Dale, JJ (most not too far away), I reckon we've got cause to be pretty damn optimistic.

Bloody oath. That’s the real positive from today. With 1/3 of the team out, including really top end players, you would’ve thought our belly would’ve been exposed a lot more. Davidson and McNiell looked like they improved our depth a hell of a lot.

Thought JOD was good too. Once Naughty started going and didn’t allow Barrass to mark everything we were great. Hopefully we can bank enough wins while the boys are out to stay around the mark for too 4.

The ‘Piglet’ Watson had a crack at Crofty and he ragdolled the fat little pr1ck and threw him to the ground as well… I like this a lot! Crofty doesn’t take any shit from Piglet!

38-12 inside 50s in the 1st half suggests we weren't taking it as seriously as we could have. You guys did a good job stifling our ball movement and we were way too tall in the backline I felt. Either Sicily or Weddle need to play forward for the backline situation to work and neither of them did which suggests Mitchell was experimenting.

Tbh that is my fear. Drinking their own bathwater. Isn't just going to happen for us as Teams will have put the work in to find us out. Need to keep evolving.

Lewis & Dear were missing, 2 KPFs.
They did put out a pretty strong side though. We were missing a heap of players, but the side we played did look pretty balanced.

This was great because while it was a great tackle from Watson he cost his team momentum while the umpire sorted it out. Had he not been actively wrestling Croft the umpire would’ve allowed the advantage.

That and Croft from his back smashed him straight away.



It’s always interesting going onto opponent boards during preseason games (which is good to get a feel of who they believed played well for them so I can then assess their matchup on our side). Same old thing every team that loses - the other side were taking it more seriously. It’s a coping mechanism disguised as playing it down, because no matter what team we support nobody on this site enjoys their team losing
