I’d take Butters any day of the week. I think we all would. That said, it’s round four and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before anything concrete happens. We’ve been mentioned with links to a big name player (eg Peatling, O’Halloran, Houston (?)) as recently as last year and it’s amounted to nothing, so while I’d love to have him here I’m not going to hold my breath. Even if someone is a long time supporter of one club, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll end up there. Anything can happen if the money/contract offer is good enough to sway them somewhere else.

Nuffies on Footy Classified say butters is keen to come back home. 4 clubs known to be keen..... Of course we don't make their list haha
To be fair, if he leaves Port, Hawthorn are the obvious one. In the window, have 2 x 1st rounders + cap space + big club draw. Geelong always in the mix. Pies don't have the draft capital so might find it hard.

They have no need for him and are desperate for a KPF

Butters for me. Him being a Doggies fan growing up just makes me feel even better about it, ala Sam Davidson now running around for us.

yeah, butters.

as bont ages, we play him more and more outside and let younger guns do the tough stuff.

And stop running him into the ground over the preseason too.

At this stage, turning Marra into Butters would be a great outcome for us. And possibly for Port as well if they could get him settled. win win?

Right now there would be a substantial difference in trade value between Marra and any top line mid

Marra + a first round pick would probably get it done but even then, each club will want to do their due diligence and may well not want to take it on.

Either would be fantastic gets. But it's all just a pipe dream from our perspective even if they did move clubs. We don't attract players of this calibre nor do we have the draft hand to entice their clubs to release them. Doesn't hurt to dream I suppose.

If Butters goes to any other Melbourne club there will be real tears shed

On the other hand if we failed to get a gun midfielder but were somehow able to get Marra back to his best form (and fully reconciled with the club and his teammates) that would be almost as good an outcome.

So.................

Caught up with my player-manager mate today, haven't seen him for awhile because it's that time of year where he goes overseas. Squeezed him for what infomation I could.

-Bevo met with quite a few oppo players during the off season, including one his clients (wouldn't tell me who) - Reckons we are cashed up and chasing midfielders and small forwards incredibly hard.
-He knows that the Bevo/Rowell meeting went extremly well, in his words ''Rowell is a bit of a weird unit and having a head coach along those lines will help him flurish''
-JUH stuff has taken alot of people in the AFL world from left field, he is suppoedly recieving an unprecedented amount of support from outside the club, and is more than certain the Dogs will hold him to contract unless a godfather offer comes along but based on current circumstances that won't be happening. I did ask him about us terminating him and he did confirm that short of JUH being charged with something wickedly illegal, the AFL would never tick off on the number 1 Indiginous draft pick of the last 20 years being delisted for off field activities.
-Bevo is leaning towards staying but length of contract will be sticking point.
-Incredibly confident that Ed and Bont will be with us long term.
-Supposedly English's concussion problems are a real concen for him/his management + family, from what he understands from rumors off the grapevine, the last concussion almost retired him for good, doesn't think English will see out his current contract. He wouldn't be surprised if we start chasing a mature ruck as back up considering we looked at Crossely.

Nothing too spicy but it's good to hear we're really chasing targets this year.

Bevo must have some tasty grass at his joint

Just confirms my thoughts on Tim.
His knee to the head by Aaron was a sickening blow , seeing his eyes roll and unconscious made me feel ill.
All the best for big chill .
