Review R4 2025 - Port lose at home to St Kilda lol

Noticed that every goal we scored was a set shot. No goals on the run. Lord had a chance to do one but kicks inside to an oppo player.

Too many dinky Kane Cornes chips cost us.

Also it goes without saying, the over-handballing in the midfield, terrible to watch.

St Kilda pretty much had the megger-flood going, so there was no room for running goals. Plus not many of our players can kick outside 50 anyway to get over the flood.

I watched the game on delay yesterday knowing the result so zero emotional engagement. I know it's kind of obvious but our poor goal kicking just sticks out. So many times in that first half we had great opportunities to get things moving only for someone to spray a gettable shot. It just kills your momentum, leaves you feeling flat and then it's made worse when the opposition waltz the ball down the other end and nail their shots, as St Kilda did with that blitz at the end of the first quater. Powell-Pepper and Georgiades seem to be repeat offenders but it's an across the board thing that has sort of been part of our identity and defeatist mentality as a team for far too long.

SPP was the best rated set shot in his draft year as well.

Georgiades was great too at the start, Finlayson was one of the best shots in the league at GWS, the list goes on.

That's why I referred to it as part of our identity and defeatist mentality as a club, it's been a constant theme across way too many different playing groups now for it not to be. For me, it's another sign of our mental weakness and the lack of confidence instilled in the team by the low confidence career loser that is our coach.

I didn't even know if it was an early or a later game. I was visiting friends and their TV was on the game when I walked in to their living room. I saw Butters return to the bench along the boundary. The embrace and smile and touching of Daddy Donuts indicated he had done something super-duper special: 'Maybe he's kicked the winning goal. Robbie Gray style,' I thought. Alas, it was early in the game, and he'd kicked Port's first. And the Coach was just dribbling all over him. I knew then we'd go down. This bloke is a disease.

Lol it was a 50m penalty he got us for stirring up some saints players

I briefly heard some of the 5AA Sports Show this afternoon and couldn’t believe how positive Timmy G was about the performance and the response after the poor first quarter. I dunno if whittling down the 24 point margin at quarter time to 17 over the next three quarters at home is something to really the hang hat on.

Ginever is a cuck. Maybe one of the worst. You know why?

We know he holds strong opinions and is anti-ken etc. So he is actively lying through his teeth and betraying his true feelings in fear of a call from the club.

He is a reason the clappers have remained so loyal.

A true cuck.

Port is playing a very weird game style where the likes of Rioli and Richards are playing high up the field. I don’t know how to explain it but this seems counter intuitive to where they should be played, and plays into the hands of the over use of handball we are seeing as the centre of the field is flooded with players.

Few will agree with me but the game would benefit greatly with a few less players for each team on the field.

Pity the game's played over 4 quarters.

Talking about effort - it made me have a look at the Telstra tracker to see if anything stood out. Only shows the top5 players in each category but some interesting things in our losses.

1 - Our defensive work rate is horrible. I don't know what metric they use, but you don't win games with poor work rate, and assuming they've got some reasonable logic behind it - it explains a lot.

2 - Even our win against the Tigers, we had 1 player in the top 5 for defensive work rate - Travis Boak (highest on ground)

3 - Some of the players that are potted regularly on this forum, such as SPP, DBJ, Wines and Boak, are the few that are always up there for total distance at high speed, average speed, work rate etc. - They are busting their gut to cover up for the deficiencies of others, and as a result, it's likely their skills are suffering, as well as looking slow/lazy as they are absolutely gassed at some contests.

4 - Our players are one way runners, happy to work hard moving forward, but never the other way. We have not outworked the opposition in defence this season (equal Tigers). We have beaten every one of our opponents in offensive work rate except for the tigers.

5 - Our total distance numbers, average running speeds etc etc. are all absolutely putrid - we are unfit/lazy or both

Number of players in the top 5 on the ground for these stats

It’s so obvious at the ground we run twice as fast in attack then to defend.. it’s why we get opened up..

This aged well

Why are we nostalgiabombing this trash off the back of bringing back all the ‘Port Power’ gear last year or the year before?

We fought for decades to correct the cartoony teal branding and pivot away from ‘South Coast Power’ genericisation — with some massive wins such as the all black PAFC hoodie, the best-selling PA monogram New Era caps, and the prisonbars selling like hotcakes whenever they hit the racks — and suddenly bozos are charging headlong towards a noughties revival at pace.

Why?
