I think the match committee will probably give Hynes another game but he looks a long way off and I'd rather we bring in Poulter if we're looking for a half forward type. Poulter was used mainly as a half forward in the pre-season and looked quite reasonable. Also, having both Hynes and Dolan playing forward against established back lines is a bit too risky for mine.

I don’t see who else could’ve played in the small forward role on the weekend to be honest? Vanders, Cody, Scott injured. Arty not giving us much at the moment (and maybe still grieving?) I understand the selection of Hynes on the weekend.

Arty would have done more than Hynes, but not enough to really influence the game in any meaningful way given how one sided the 2nd half was.

So I’m kind of okay with just getting it over with, we probably did stitch him up with the game we chose to debut him in, a shame it went as it did, hopefully he uses it as fuel and we move on.

Vandermeer surely was injured ?????

Being dumped deep in the forward line, where our game style is nothing but pump in long and high, and pray Darcy gets it. Was always going to screw Hynes over. If we didn't choke in the second half, he may have been given some midfield minutes. But being dumped in the forward pocket on our team is probably the worst thing we can do for a debutante. Not really his fault tbh.

I also would have played Arty.
To my eye , I am seeing him more physically able to impact and see out a game.
Match committee obviously disagree.

Tough one for Hynes, but he needs most of the year in the VFL.

Arty is so far off it’s not funny. He is quick and has skills, but can’t win a contest or stick a tackle on anyone. If he could magically put on 10kg of muscle he may make it, but until then he is the last to be selected IMO. Hope he proves me wrong in a few years, but doubt it.

Missed a very simple chest mark 25 - 30 meters out from goal under no pressure. He had a chance and blew it.

His main weakness in his draft year was fitness. I strongly doubt he's ready for midfield minutes in the AFL.

Has a future, but thought it was poor by our match committee selecting him. I watched the VFL game and didn't think he was ready.

Watching Hynes in the VFL, I really think we've got something here. I don't think he'll see much more senior footy this year, but he'll have a big pre-season in the gym and he'll be hungry for it r1 next year. Has that competitiveness.

He’s probably a much better natural fit at half forward than Sanders. Will be interesting to see what happens with the two of them next year.

Rated number 1 in ground ball gets tonight.
It's something Lachie Neale built his game on, take positive sign.
