Another big challenge for us this Sunday—one we strangely go into as heavy favourites, which probably doesn’t reflect the reality.

Carlton comfortably accounted for us the last time we met—dominated in the ruck and midfield, which opened the door for easy scores up forward. They're expected to be at full strength this week with McKay back in the side, and with Jack Henry still out, that likely means SDK stays down back—so any thoughts of resting Stanley may have to wait.

Miers is a big loss. His running power and link-up play are central to how we move the ball.

Carlton coming off a nine-day break, and our depth—particularly through the midfield and defence—being stretched thin. It feels like this is the sort of game Carlton will really get up for as they’ll want to prove themselves against a top side after two soft wins.

Not the worst time for a Chris Scott masterclass. We’ll need it. Expect Danger to spend more time in the middle to match Carlton’s bigger bodies, and Blicavs feels like the natural matchup for Cripps.

Mullin seems like the perfect matchup for Saad to negate his run and dash off half-back.

Should be a cracking game!

I think Ted needs a spell in the VFL. His endeavour is great but his skill level is pretty low. I would rather give Stevens a run.
Also, on Stevens, I still don't think he'll be quick enough for afl footy. I could be wrong but I just don't think it'll work out for him. You'd be dropping knev for him too I think not Henry

Re O Henry , there was a game when he was at Colllingwood , might have been against the Crows , where he came on as sub , kicked 4 goals and basically won the game for the Magpies

So i would make him the Sub this week , if he comes on and does well , then he can come back into the AFL Starting team , but if he is a fizzer as the sub then he can go to the VFL

I wouldnt be even having a Threepence on Geelong this week , often the Cats struggle after the Easter Monday game against Haw , plus its Carltons 30 year anniversary after their last flag , so they are going to be fired up for this game - and they did thrash us last year

Some games you have a gut feel , like playing Stk at Marvel is allways a worry , and this game unfortunately ive got the same feel

I think the Blues will win by about 3-4 goals , so i will take any narrow Geel victory this week so the Cats go 5-2

Henry really needs to be dropped and unfortunately for him I reckon it’s the moving of Danger to the forward line that has killed him. I’d like to see Ted replace Ollie up forward for the whole game.
Highlighted how very few tricks he has in his game unfortunately. Looked genuinely lost on the wing yesterday so that certainly isn’t an option (probably just helping give the mids a breather with Miers out).

Only issue with that idea is he that he was shifted to the wing in the second quarter and Miers wasn't concussed until the third quarter

If the move was about trying to get him into the game, not sure it really worked

He is a shocking midfielder.

Honestly his not as slow as people think.. His improved on his short speed, he did come out and said he has try and has improved his speed

I hope he gets his chance at some stage to show what he can do... He definitely knows how to find the ball. Came 6th in the B &F last season in his first year

I have said before he's definitely better, but I still see his man running off him pretty easily at vfl level. I imagine he'd be pretty bad defensively at afl level

Scott spoke quite specifically about him a couple of weeks ago on Fox, and said he offered something different to everyone else.

I posted at the time here (somewhere) that Scott's comments left me feeling near certain that he would get a run in the seniors at some point.

With our last midfield option (Knevitt or Clark) not exactly flying and Bruhn with a dodgy finger, I also wouldn't be shocked to see Stevens debut.

Could possibly get a run in a game at a smaller ground (GMHBA) or in a game where we think there will be lots of stoppages... Or on a slow, wet track.

Can't see him getting a run under the dome.

I'm not a big believer in Stevens (does look slow to me), but I see where he could get an opportunity due to our weak last midfielder selected + his strong clearance/stoppage game.

Maybe not. But it would infuriate.

Carlton have gone 6-11 from their last seventeen games, dating back to Round 15 of last season. And the only teams they've beaten in that time are the Weagles (twice), the Kangas (twice), the Tigers, and us.

This had to be said, again....Classic example possibly of not who, but WHEN you play them.
6 days recovery.
Tough Easter Monday game- our record after these games is not as good as our overall record, in recent 20 years.
And Miers is a vital cog in our lineup.
The who is a bit relevant too as TDK is in top form.

Don’t mind the call on resting Stanley. I’d like Ted to get a full game or play vfl, another week as sub not ideal. Ollie Henry oit, Wiltshire wasn’t great but at least found himself 2 goals.

Good post catholic 👌 When Chris Scott talks about player like he has. Iv got good confidence he will be a player
I've been watching George in the VFL since he arrived, and it's pleasing that Chris Scott has acknowledged him in that way, and Chris ofc knows his strengths and weaknesses much much better than me or any other casual observer. The 'something a bit different' is his ability to use his strength and bulk in close and extract the ball or stop the opposition from doing so. The only player we have who does this better is 35 years old, but George is not capable of then bursting away from the pack like Danger still is. He is certainly slower than the average AFL/VFL player which will be a limitation for him, but it would be nice to see what he can and can't do at the higher AFL level.

I haven't heard the club say that.

Only a few people in here.

Via this week's injury report, JK to return via the VFL:

Jake Kolodjashnij

“Jake was available to play in the VFL last Sunday, however had low back pain on the morning of the game and it was decided to give him an additional week off. He is set to return via the VFL this weekend against Carlton.”
