It's my birthday tomorrow and I shall celebrate by watching this :)
Happy Birthday Neese... hope it's a great day for you. I'm considering calling my St Kilda supporting uncle to see how his day is going :D

Lewy Young has become a cult figure amongst my group of Blues supporters mates.
We find positive’s even in the negatives. He is a crucial part of the side.
And now that he’s added kpf to his role…lookout!
He was drafted as a KPF by the mutts. They turned him into a defender. Us putting him back in the forward line seems like a wise move.

you'd think binns has docherty's spot sewn up in the short term. kicked his first, just short on his second and had a good look at another that fell well short. ok with a bit of contact. gets into everything like acres.

Binns had some bad moments last night but unlike Doc he threw himself in with no concern for his own well being at times last night which is pretty impressive given his light frame. I think most of us can live with skill errors but if a player regularly shirks a contest then they have to go which is (sadly) where Doc has become. I was thinking he was shaping as a bust but he really took his chance last night so I think he at least deserves a crack at it now to prove himself.

Just to let all the haters know Lewis young had 7 spoils tonight despite playing less than a half in the backline. The guy deserves his spot.
Played very well tonight but let’s be honest he is not in a premiership team at the moment. Gotta get rid of dear in headlights look. That’s the rub, gotta play him for that to happen.

I feel like Silvagni is flying under the radar atm

He is easily a top 5 defender in the comp atm

Ridiculous what he has done for someone who never played backline

Weiters must be on cloud 9

Like father like son!

Absolutely loved the energy of the young blokes White, Binnsy & Lord. They might not pull big numbers but their energy lifts the team imo. Binns really worked his way into the game with some two way running.

JSOS basically unstoppable back there, shades of the old man. He has found his spot finally. Haynes also super important last night, put his body on the line all night.

TDK Pick 30 turns into a top 10 pick. How often does that happen at Carlton. We save 1.2 million and then can add another fast mid or small forward in 2026. I had the same opinion two years ago when they came for him then. His value has only gone up.
If we could get Harley Reid for TDK would anyone object?

Can you imagine the looks he gets from AFL fans he meets, who don’t recognise him and he tells them he plays for St Kilda.

“Hey, this guy plays for St Kilda and he tried that as a pickup line!😂”.

Most likely says 'Do you know who I am' :laughv1:

It's interesting. We're continuously finding players over the last two years to take the pressure off the stars. Hewitt/Cripps/Cerra, Newman/Docherty, Young/Harry, Hollands/Walsh/Cottrell/Lord, Harry/Cripps/TDK, Haynes/McGovern/Jack/Weitering.

Even putting Motts or Durdin around the footy is interesting here. It's kind of a Geelong thing rather than a Sydney thing; get the roles right and let the stars blitz if they're on. Use 18 of the team to do the minimum, let the Camerons and the Dangers be the difference rather than needing to blitz to reach expectations.
Ths nonsense about the umpiring is tiresome. If you are good enough they are inconsequential. It is a tough 360 degrees game that is difficult to umpire and at the top level everything happens at high speed. Having a go at umpiring is a cop out.
... which is lovely in theory and in general, but in isolation umpiring can and has gifted games from one team to another without pretext.

This is very easily demonstrated.

This is also a discussion forum, and discussion of the umpires is absolutely at home here. Whether or not it's a cop out is immaterial to whether it's relevant to discuss it here.

If people cannot post it here because it's a copout, where should they post it?

He kicked his first goal last year. He's definitely going to be a long term member of the side. He's a wiingman like Acres and has the pace and endurance to cause havoc up and down the flanks. Gets back and helps defend.

Gutsy win, full credit to the players and coaches. Makes last week even more baffling - absolute chalk and cheese from the opening bounce, so you've gotta wonder what on earth was happening against Adelaide.

A few rarely sung heroes on the night.

Young seems to really enjoy playing forward. Not just be better at it, you can actually see the joy on his face when we score. He's getting around his teammates and celebrating their successes as well as his own. I think starting forward also helps when he needs to be swung back - gives him a chance to get into the game in a really positive way and then carry some confidence down back.

Tough night for the small forwards, but I think that can be a symptom of Ross-ball. Not a lot of room to operate with the amount of players getting back. I do think their pressure was very good though, not too many instances of St Kilda being able to easily go end to end.

Binns played his role, but I think that's the type of game he can do so. Ross loves to force long kicks to contests, so we weren't needing Binns to hit hard targets - the Saints were set up well enough to shut those options down. He's a grinder, and that game was a grind.

Better game from Lord, coming on for 3 quarters. I think we used him better though - he needs to be around the ball or holding position through the corridor. He's not yet able to follow the ball end to end all game, so I think we need to keep him between the arcs and just let him focus on impacting when he can.

Good scrapping from the Hollands boys, and a very impressive final quarter from Lij in particular. Would like to see him get a few more centra bounces moving forward, as I think he's one of our best at finding a lateral option that opens up the field.

Massive props to JSOS for coming back with his hand not yet fully recovered. Without him, we lose that one. Massive props to Acres for playing on with essentially one arm - bloke is a warrior.

And jeez it's nice to see Haynes getting his confidence back in reading and committing to the play. If anyone can make a gif of that ridiculous sprint he made from the centre circle to the boundary line to help spoil a contest, I will be incredibly grateful. Was beautiful.
