Roberts ball use has been poor but atleast he puts his body on the line in our defence. Multiple times he's saved our ass through a desperation mark. He's also able to win his own ball in defence. I'd tell him to trust his handballing skills a bit more & look for transition through hands.

Wouldn't mind having rowbottom & heeney spend a bit more time fwd but not together. I think they'll help with fwd half pressure. Have sheldrick in the midfield, I just don't see any fwd nous from him. He's a pure mid imo.
The goal he kicked (when everyone was missing) on the weekend showed good forward craft.

I think he could be a big bodied mid, at least he can find the ball, get him inside for a stint? where he has less time and just has to make quicker shorter disposal decisions:

That’s exactly where he played in the GF and looked good in the second half for some reason hasn’t been given a go there

He can do that in the midfield though. Either him or Blakey surely enough is enough play one as a midfielder. What have we actually got to lose? Let’s find a bit about players this year results are a bit secondary now

I think we just need to give Sheldrick a full game and have a look at what he can do

Give the guy a month in the middle then after that let’s make a call one way or another I’m not saying which way just give the guy a good go that’s all I’d ask

I'm sort of surprised we didn't just do that already given absences and struggles.

I said it a few weeks ago that if not for Jordon playing inside this year, then Sheldrick would've had more of a chance. And Cox basically inferred as much in his presser yesterday.

True , I guess he could have put Heeney back forward and Sheldrick inside but we may never have seen Heeney that way

Don't see why on earth you can't play both seems a complete cop out from Cox who refuses to put in action his words from the pre season about earning games. Great Jordan is in there, play Sheldrick too with Chad/Heeney going more FWD

It is because of Sheldrick not earning games that he is seemingly far back in the pecking order in the first place. It seems people have forgotten that he played in the two pre-season games, was top 3 for CBAs in the second pre-season game and top 4 for CBAs in Opening Round vs Hawthorn. It's not like he wasn't given plenty of chances. He failed to impress across all three games, despite coming off a supposedly great pre-season. I think that failure to launch probably rightfully had Sheldrick falling in Cox's priority list and others like Jordon, even maybe Cleary, have jumped him.

Yep that's the problem Sheldrick hasn't exactly made it hard for Cox not to select him either it would just be a hope selection.

We also don't see how they go at training

This is one shot from last week's gallery of training prior to the Bombers game.
It shows McCartin practicing to miss the ball with his fist, while Melican is practicing hitting the ball instead of someone's head, unlike his efforts when reported for striking & Amartey practicing his mistiming of the contested mark.

Should be good to go against the Blues this week!

Why are they practicing a forward being in front, what does that happen

True, although I'm not sure what role Cleary is playing, seemingly forward-ish, but he's only kicked 1 goal from 6 games & his role isn't entirely clear to me. It certainly isn't CBAs.

Which I'm finding hard to reconcile is Cox giving McInerney centre bounce time - that just baffles me. I'm struggling to see any rationale.

Cleary's playing the pressure forward role as far as I can see, but is being drip-fed inside minutes as well, presumably with an eye to the future. I think he's going about as well as we could hope and is one of the few positives to come out of this season so far.

Re McInerney, my mail is he was read the riot act a few weeks ago and given the chance to start at some centre bounces to prove himself. IMO he's not done that, but maybe they're satisfied that he's getting enough of the ball and thinking his ball use will lift eventually. As I said I personally don't like it. I think he gets ragdolled and is ineffective on the inside.

Sanity prevails.
Then a full game the next week before even being considered for seniors. And needs to play well.

We've at least got 4 games before the next VFL bye (same as AFL) so a few returning players including Fox, Dattoli, maybe Harry can get some games in.
