Quick shoutout to the current VFLW premiers, the mighty Roogirls! After a mid-season slump last season they finished strongly to eventually overwhelm the doggies in the granny. The standard of the VFLW has gone up considerably and our girls have done a brilliant job starting the title defense with a demolition of Carlton VFLW at Arden street today. 9-11 (65) to 2-5 (17). Barba, Dojiok and Savarirayan were influential and could easily slot into the AFLW program. I'm surprised no-one came for Dojiok in the AFLW. Boyd and DiCosmo also very good. Something very right about our women's program.
Well done Roogirls and coach, Brett Gourley.

Our VFLW girls won 8 of their last 9 last season and have now won 2 from 2 this season, defeating Williamstown 6.8.44 - 4.1.25.

Along with our AFLW going through last season undefeated, our women's teams have only lost once since May 11 last year, a final round loss to the Dogs.

Don't forget our senior men's women team

Would be nice if we gave vflw game time to recent aflw draftees like other clubs are doing

there will be some players who don’t play an actual game of any footy for years

Only prac matches with smaller teams/players on the ground
Plenty time for that once the North Melbourne Tasmania laddies in the AFL finishes and once the new Tasmanian team starts.
Then it will be North Melbourne/Werribee Kangaroos not just in the VWFL but in the AWFL as well .
Then give it time down the track it will be the same in both levels of the men’s sides as well and to say it maybe a merger only but in many ways it will be a takeover.
I just hope the board of the NMFC doesn’t fall for the 3 card trick that happened last time dealing with this mob it put the NMFC back 10 years.

Agree, especially some of our fringe players and new draftees. I'm sure they want to play some football.

I agree, but I'm guessing this may be why.

Club are weighing up the benefits of development at state league level against the potential cost of injury as the AFLW season nears

THE RISK-REWARD of fielding AFLW players through the VFLW has been laid bare over the past few weeks, with young Essendon key Emily Gough and developing St Kilda ruck Emmelie Fiedler both suffering torn ACLs in the opening two rounds of the state league season.

The Western Bulldogs, Essendon and St Kilda have been loading up their VFLW teams with AFLW players in the past two weeks, but other teams have been more cautious, weighing up the benefits of development against the potential cost of injury.
Bomber Gough, 19, tore her ACL on Saturday in a marking contest against Collingwood.

She had only played five AFLW games in her first season last year, missing some footy with a calf issue, with the VFLW seen as a good opportunity to upskill young players who have missed out through selection or injury.

Poor loss today very wasteful

5.5.35 dons to us 4.8.32

Hales has lost all pace and agility in defence cost us the last goal

Douglas takes no care with the footy

Reynolds should be dominating ruck with her height but isn’t

Thank god for Charlotte Ryan, Sutton, dojoik, Reid, Ingram, tierney and barba who kept us in it

Did the Bombers load up their team with their AFLW players?

Dominated the second half of the game after trailing at halftime.

Dojiok kicked 4 goals, including three after halftime to lead the league goalkicking with 11 goals for the season, 4 ahead of her closest rival. I’m a little surprised she isn’t on an AFLW list, perhaps some think she isn’t up to the standard yet and needs more development.

Di Cosmo is another that probably deserves a chance in the AFLW.

Lovely work by Zoe S to set up one of those goals.

I found this interesting, the Dogs played nine AFLW players and still got soundly beaten.

North Melbourne Werribee 6.7 (43) d Western Bulldogs 3.4 (22)

In the Grand Final rematch, best on ground medallist Nyakoat Dojiok reprised her role, kicking four goals in the Roos' 21-point victory.

Despite the AFLW preseason kicking off last week, the Bulldogs still used nine AFLW listed players in the match. Draftees Keeley Hardingham (16 disposals, 38 hitouts, eight clearances), Emma McDonald (12 disposals, one goal), and Sarah Poustie (10 disposals, 10 tackles) all had a big impact.

Jess Fitzgerald (13 disposals, nine tackles) and Dom Carruthers (13 disposals, six tackles) worked hard both ways, while Lou Stephenson (nine disposals, 11 hitouts) continued her role as supporting ruck.

Naomi Ferres (11 disposals, four tackles), Elaine Grigg (10 disposals, two tackles) and Brooke Barwick (seven disposals, three tackles) had quieter days.
