Notice a lot of lamenting around not picking up Ludowyke or some other project tall. I'll comment on Ludowyke because I wasn't a big fan of him as a prospect.

Ludowyke is extremely slow (3.227 20m) and doesn't have another stand-out athletic trait that will help him at the next level. He two-grabs a lot of marks, doesn't chop-out in the ruck, isn't great below his knees and due to his limited athletic profile, he'd get burnt as a defender.

In many ways, he was the beneficiary of being a key forward for an excellent side with good consistent service.

I could write a similar comment for other talls. Now does this mean Ludowyke won't make it? No, and in fact, I really hope he builds a great career. But you weigh up risk vs reward - if he does make it, is he a needle mover? Or just a serviceable key position forward?

Mikunda on the other hand has an athletic profile and style that really suits the way footy is played today. If you're throwing a dart on a prospect towards the end of the draft, he makes a lot of sense, as opposed to someone like Ludowyke who has a limited upside.

Worth noting that I could write a similar type of comment I did for Ludowyke for Greeves (obviously different negatives relating to the role of a midfielder). I said I wasn't sure he'd even get drafted and he didn't. It's brutal that someone that had as many runs on the board as he did didn't get drafted, but his game is unlikely to translate favourably to AFL. This is unfortunately why Dom Brew hasn't been picked up, even though he's been the best player at VFL level for the last 3-4 years.

I've had a night to sleep on it, and it still feels like a weird decision to me, but hopefully he can turn his selection into a positive and surprise us all.

His highlights looked pretty solid.

Welcome to North, Hugo.

Understand now why Nostrils was desperate for him, since they have so much in common.

Nobody has ever explained ligma as far as I can remember.

Gives me Atley vibes.

Can’t wait for a commentator to call him a speedster seconds before he gets run down.
Atley? This bloke’ll take the Fat Vegans spot

Potentially we didn't think the talls available were actually much good?

And certainly speed is going to be more helpful than a midfield plodder.

Seems like someone down there has cottoned on to why we keep getting pantsed. Yes, exciting times, wee man.
A fair few other teams that needed a key forward/ruck for their list builds also didn't take Ludo or want to take the risk on Hetherton with his back stress issues, despite both being thought of as potential top 35 mock draft selections.
WCE took Sam Allen (29), Cats took Hunter Holmes (33), Pies took Sam Swadling (37), Blues took Talor Byrne (45)
Ludo spent time with Saints in preseason, BFSAAK, Max King with his injury issues, and they took Charlie Banfield (41).
A lot of potentially talented players have fallen through because of certain queries on them, be it speed or endurance or character issues potentially, so there could well be some good options in the MSD if we have a pick.

Sorry mate, I don’t know how to break the news to you any more bluntly..

Nostrils has declared us not drafting the big Lud the greatest drafting blunder in AFL history, a bees dick in front of us not taking Cowan and Tsatas in consecutive drafts.

The great man has spoken, so therefore I’m afraid you have zero idea..

Thought the same on Ludo. Some Cadman potential with development, but I think Hipwood is a better comp for him.
Would've been happy enough to take a punt on Ludo, but I saw a lot more to like in Louis Emmett (pick 27).
There's certainly a bunch of talented players who didn't get picked up for varying reasons. MSD will be interesting.

Strange decision from a list balance perspective as already noted, but seems like a ripping kid. All the best Hugo, and welcome to the NMFC!

The club channel highlights clips for all 3 boys are pretty poor.

However these:

Give a much better inpression of his potential. Hearing he had no preseason adds to the curiosity.

Wasn't wrapped that we didn't take a project tall but have come around to trying a kid with zip who can run it upfield.

At the moment we only have McKercher and Stephens with any kind of form in running roles in 2025.

I know right, even the Syd Barker highlights packages were like less than 40 seconds. They could really do with a passionate North Nuffy like me to make cooler edits.

Once a jolly Clarkson camped by a Billabong
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"Who'll come a-Hugo Mikunda with me?"

Down come a Thredgold to drink at the water hole
Up jumped the Clarkson and grabbed him in glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker bag
"You'll come a Hugo Mikunda with me'".

Up rode the Media, posting news on their masthead
Up rode the doubters- one, two, three
"Where's that Thredgold you've got in your tucker bag?",
"You'll come a Hugo Mikunda with me"

But Clarkson he up and jumped right into Arden Street
Crowning himself with Premierships one, two, three,
And his song may be heard as he sings it loud at Arden Street
"Who'll come a Hugo Mikunda with me?"

King Corey . You may have been shocked by my comment about Hugo making it . It wasn't directed at him. More that at pick 48 I'm hardly losing sleep about their football pedigree.

Now on Hugo, I was chatting with someone today involved at Coates league level. And he rates him . So yeah we may have got ourselves one
