Anyone else notice…

Weits or one of our other defenders marks and glazes across the ground looking for options to kick to…

I looked at the options as well and all I could see was blues players standing still.

We don’t run into space and create multiple options.

Then the long bomb comes into play. It’s almost like our players don’t know any better.

Makes you wonder wtf we do at trainings.
Been an issue for a very long time. Our kicking out from defence is always long down the line. The amount of times we kicked long and favoured a GWS player was ridiculous. It's basic common sense.

The speed of GWS absolutely killed us,we had no answers for it.
It really exposed how slow we are.
A turnover in our half of the ground was just scooped up by the Giants and with the speed of light they were running on top of the ground back down into their forward 50 leaving our defence caught with their pants down.
I sit on the wing in the front row

It was so clear today that they run like they have ankle weights tied down on them

Every overlap or turnover they had 10-15m on every match up on the wing and midfield

Absolutely killed us

Anyone who watches training, do the players train for basic skills at all? How often?

Can't find the quote but I remember someone quoting Voss saying we don't really train the fundamentals. That is the first red flag, if not anything else.

No they don’t. I have mentioned this numerous times.

We don’t do any training in basics at all

Its because we dont overlap or move the ball quickly. Once we slow down, its done, you have no choice but to kick the ball down the line.

Are you insinuating that the players are leading badly, train poorly, or don’t want to perform?? Everyone’s out on the drink & Persians? Youngsters have no one to look up to? What’s the “bad culture” and where is it stemming from - please explain what you’re referring to that is so bad at the club?

Melbourne has a bad culture
Bulldogs / Bevo have (now = had) a bad culture
North have no culture
Richmond have lost their culture

Buzz word that really stacks up to nothing but unsuccessful in your endeavours in the AFL (which is winning).

Do you go to games? If so, do you not see the hands on hips, the pointing rather than running, the “slipping over” when a chase is hard, the half hearted contests? Half of our stars are just happy to be there getting paid $1m a year and the other half just want to sulk rather than drag them rest of them up.

We have a list that is not willing to do the hard things required to win consistently.

Yeah that’s true.

And When we do move it quickly sometimes works sometimes turn it over..

it doesn’t appear to be something we practice too much

That I blame on coaches.

The funny thing is, we play an outdated game style but we really aren't actually all that good at it anyway. We have a lot of players who can't win a ground ball to save their lives, also can't affect a contest in any positive way.

Add to that our 'good' contested players are still one-touch. If we don't get clean movement from a stoppage we simply don't win the footy. And then when we do we burn it inside 50 anyway.

Our deficiencies have been glaring for a few years now (they were even pretty glaring when we were winning IMO) the fact nothing has changed is damning.

Seriously. Even for Bigfooty this has to be the most ignorant take I have seen
Like to overdramatise things.

What’s the problem with the culture then? Who is causing this from your observations?

Bad culture IMO is like the navy initiations, bullying, rape & coverups by the hierarchy presenting lack of leadership. Breads poor behaviour, becomes institutional.
Racist culture
Big drinking culture
Lazy culture

Why is the Carlton Football Club in the mire of a bad culture..?

Failing to see AFL clubs install poor “culture” other than providing a winning culture which the W/L’s dictate.

First order of business would be to clear the coaching staff then.

I remember both Mitchell and McRae emphasising the importance of the basics, and how they regularly drill their players with it. No surprise with the skill gap then.

What are they doing in training instead? Corralling?

No excuses for a leader. Made basic fundamental mistakes and was not accountable. Cost us big time
Exactly. Weitering likes shitting down blokes throats (especially Young) when they make mistakes. After that first drop mark that resulted in the Callam Brown goal I just wanted to see him get angry at himself, put his hand up and acknowledge his mistake and then go on and play a better game. Instead he somehow got worse. Probably the worst game he has played since Nick Sev-Larkey kicked a bag on him in 2021.

Poty.

Not gonna go too hard on people having a crack at Weiters out of frustration, his performance was shocking, and not shocking as in bad (even though it was) but shocking as in, I was legitimately shocked. You just don't see that from him ever.

It doesn't really matter what anyone here says, I guarantee you no-one is going harder at Weiters than Weiters after that one.

He had a bad day. Weitering is a star and has held us together

At some stage enough is enough and the dam bursts

I find it hard to blame him. He is under massive pressure each week. He had a kid in his first game to help and McGovern went forward
Plus teams have worked him out and are getting his opponent to try and keep him away from the contest

Difference is Durds has had games this year where he's showed something, he's a small forward, he's going to throw up a stinker every now and again.

Motlop has had two good games in absolute drubbings against Norf and WC, and every other game he's had a stinker. This is becoming a pattern. If Durds keeps up this form he'll start to cop it too, don't you worry.
Yes, this is it - you have to show something when it counts
My Missus barracks for Hawthorn so I see a bit of them. Watson has done nothing today BUT last week he was absolutely sensational - he simply willed himself to be part of every forward entry.
He is a year younger and has played half as many games as Mot but we all know he really has something

Historically forwards don't star every week, thinking of Wallsy this week, I remember how he could go 2 or 3 games without impacting overly but then he would be your star forward the next week
