Prediction The rebuild could be long.. years if not a decade

Collingwood finished 17th in 2021 before Craig McRae was able to have an immediate impact.

GWS finished 16th in 2022 before Adam Kingsley was able to have an immediate impact.

But try explaining that and you’ll just get hit with “their list is better than yours. Totally different”
Part of me agrees with this, but part of me is also entirely unconvinced that promoting from within is going to create the bounce that those clubs achieve by bringing in a completely new voice.

Sometimes I wonder if those who make these sorts of comments remember Josh as a player. Once he gets his hands on the wheel, there's going to be a paradigm shift. Whether that produces results is another matter altogether but if it doesn't it won't be because Josh is Hinkley 2.0, far from it.

Its not so much Josh, but the people he surrounds himself with. He needs new fresh ideas, energy and those willing to challenge current practises.

Am I right in saying that the fitness bloke is the protege of the protege of Burgo? Like photocopying a photocopy there’s degradation each time you do it and now there are some serious deficiencies showing in the results of the program. Half way through the season and we can barely run out half a game.

We need a fresh start in this department too, just as we did in 2013.

To suggest this is going to take years to turn around is just such an overblown statement.

So many teams look like basket cases and turn it around in a matter of 12 months.

There's plenty of talent on the list - 20 out of the 23 players in the prelim final last year are still on the current list. Majority of the key players are 25 years of age or less.

it can turn around quickly if they put the right infrastructure in place within the footy department. That is, a massive change up of assistants around Carr.
You are 100% correct Chewy. The talent is there. Our problems lay with the senior coach, poor standards, and the football department spend which sees us with cheap, assistant coaches and in my opinion seemingly substandard strength and conditioning. For Josh to be successful these things need to be addressed. We need to move on and bring in new assistants and get rid of Graham and sort that area of the program out. I have heard that Josh has sussed out at least one former high profile player from Melbourne who is currently in the AFL system. I hope this is correct because we cannot go on with the inbred appointments we currently have.

It's not so much Carr in my eyes, it's seeing the same people that put us in this situation are still going to be there by the looks.

Like I posted previously, is Koch leaving, Richardson, CD, board members.
Will Carr be allowed to get the people he wants to support him.

We don't know any of these things, so until we have more insight into these real problems it's all a guess.

Unless changes are made across the board any coach walking into this situation is going to do it tough. Hopefully Carr has already been told that he can assemble his own assistants at the very least.

Thank you David Koch for your statement that the club will never need to rebuild.

This year, likely a bottom 4 finish and NO first round draft pick because we traded it for a player that played VFL.

Our midfield is carried by one or two players and even with them cannot win a contested possession or ground ball for their life. All 3 of our rucks are SANFL standard too.

I don't even need to explain the disaster that is our forward and backline.

With the Tasmania compromised the draft coming up, this rebuild could be

Bit dramatic tbh

Rebuilds are 3-5 years unless ypu're Carlton

We don’t have a defence. That’s a good 4-5 years on its own to develop talent.

Aliir is close to done. He’s regressing as the speed of light ever since he got towelled up in that prelim. Part of it is he doesn’t have the support around him so he can’t play his better suited intercepting role and instead is required to play man on man which he has always been average at. Hes post 30 and we need to get his replacement developing now and they aren’t on the list.

Esava has the football skills of a potato. We don’t have his replacement on the list.

BZT gets a pass as a second rate stop gap defender. Has his moments but doesn’t generate drive out of the back half but that’s not the type of player he is.

We don’t have a small defender who’s strong against the quick small forwards. Not on the list currently.

Our defence is screwed and will take many years to recover and build.

you trade defenders in. We should be going hard on good KPDS to the point of being overly ambitious.we need to do a Collingwood and make tough decisions

Disagree. Quality defenders rarely are available. In the past 20 years how many have come available for an SA club to trade for? At some point we have to invest in this and not just wait and hope someone comes available.

We could nab a Sam Collins type defender. All not lost

Remember 2011 and 2012?? Our list was said to be absolute rubbish.

I started a thread in December 2013 called The Primus 26 about how after 2 trade and draft periods the core of Hinkley's team was already at the club, but lack of resources, injuries and poor coaching staff saw them flounder and not show their potential.

The 45 players of the 2012 list were down to 26 by December 2013, but 16 of them were the core group of players in Hinkley's first 3 seasons and even beyond.

Boak, Gray, Kornes, Ebert, Hartlett, Broadbent, Schulz, Trengrove, Carlile, Westhoff, Cassisi, Jonas, Pittard, Lobbe, O'shea and Wingard.

There were several who did their job as depth players - Logan, Moore, Young, Stewart etc

Then over the next 2 trade and draft periods we recruited 15 players (who were still on the list at December 2013) and 6 of them joined the other 16 to become the core group, over next 5 seasons- Wines, Monfries, Polec, White, Hombsh and Neade as well as not straight away but over next 5 seasons was output by Clurey, DBJ, Impey and Amon.

We got screwed by GWS' first draft concession in 2011 and both GC and GWS impacted the 2011, 2012 and 2013 draft as extra teams taking picks at the bottom of the ladder, when we needed as many of those as possible so yes Tassie is a potential thorn in our side, but they don't have picks in 2025 or 2026 and the way things are going there is no guarantee they are getting a full licence in 2028 so having a huge impact in 2027 draft.

If we are smart enough, like October 2012 to December 2015 we should dig our way out of our current mess. We aren't in as bad a shape as 2011 and 2012. We are in a Koch/Hinkley malaise not an existential threat like back then.

Agree with nearly everything.

I blame our recruiters more than I blame Ken.

Lost all passion for this club, thanks Kenny, killing football for me was not what I expected when you came on in 2013.

Not angry, not upset, just don’t care anymore. Not a member anymore, don’t go to games and I don’t miss it
Started supporting port in the early sixties stopped listening to hinkly and koch 8 years ago i no longer watch these days because of these defrauding thugs.

Ken has had 8 All Australians and can't get the job done so he keeps wanting short term impact players not play the long game.

Our recruiters have had a Hinkley inspired fetish of too many flakey flankers and ready to play type picks and recently have wasted picks over paying for players to plug gaps to save Kenny.

A list always looks bad when it is poorly coached. There is definately areas of the list which need attention. But ken is the issue he is what is holding the playing group back.
Collingwood fans were saying similar things to us in Buckley's last year where they finished 17th. Mcrea comes along and things change for the better I think similar will happen when josh takes over
I'm with you, things are never as bad or as good.

With a new coach and perspective who knows, the midfield is strong enough to compete, defence should be strong enough and with fit forwards enough.

Like most teams if injuries hit its hard to replace, our fitness program needs to be overhauled majority, the fact Johnson has been on our list 4 years and looks like he hasn't seen a weight bench says it all.

Koch and Hinkley are now using injuries. I can recall I think 2012 we only just managed to put a team on the park, it may have been against Brisbane.

They have the cheek to make reference to where we were in 2012 but use injuries as an excuse in 2025 with everything Hinkley has at his disposal compared to Matty.

hinkly has been in charge for 13 years, more than most successful coaches dream about.
This fraudster has had no winning game plan and there has been no recruiting to chose the right players to execute that winning game plan. hinkly is an indolent lazy incompetent coach at this level and for koch to endorse him for 13 years has to be the biggest fraudulent act to ever be commited against this club. They have been commited to a hodge podge jigsaw puzzle of complete stupidity and it is why this clubs colors and potential have been slowly and surely revealed.

I think our defence is okay with Rozze, Jones, Farrell, Bergman, with Alir, improving Esava and BZT (clearly not fit enough). With better midfield structures and up the ground pressure, these guys are good enough
