Reason being they wore state SA colors and were a team for everyone.
Can't get behind that at all. There should be local rivalries.

AFL is a closed shop league - does that stop you supporting Port? There definitely will never be a Divvy 2 in AFL.
I don't think the AFL having a pyramid system would work at all. I'm fine it being like the NBA.

Soccer though should have it.

There are plenty of local rivalries in the A-League. Sydney & Melbourne derbies are known worldwiode.

Adelaide / MVFC games is a huge rivalry, you must know that being in Adelaide.

As for a pyramid system in the professional game. Not in this country. Too small of a population, too large of an area for travelling.

It will happen eventually but its going to take a long time. Unless someone with billions wants to fund it before it grows itself organically.

Adelaide City will have the opportunity to play second division also.

NPL clubs don't have the money and time to be flying all over the country when most of the players have other jobs, especially the teams from WA.

It's the same reason there isn't a national AFL reserves comp

Bit off topic (ironically the one I made)...but do you have an NPL WA side?

I've always been Perth City (not Italian, but lived near Northbridge for years)...but find myself now going to watch Fremantle City a lot now because I live in Hilton, so perhaps my loyalty is shifting.

I went to a Floreat Athena one week when Freo had a bye because I knew someone who played. That's the extent of my NPL matchgoing/support.

Half the problem is NPL season runs during footy season and opposite to the A League. If AFL isn't on then I'd rather go to a WAFL match

You hate United more than Spurs?

Maybe its like Everton cos Everton have been so shit, it's like meh.

Although United now are blissfully shit, shitter than Everton even which is new lows. You love to see it.
Yes. Growing up it was always United dominating, lots of United fans at school.

They can go in the bin.

Yep same with me. These last 13 years where they have fell off a cliff have been glorious.
And yet have still made 10 cup finals in that time.
A banter era with a cup final rate most would dream of.

They truly are The Club in England.

Thoroughly dislike Liverpool and United, but have a healthy respect for them and what they've achieved in the game.

I should hate Spurs, but I don't. They're like Fremantle, an annoying little brother that moans and whines about us all the time without ever actually achieving anything.

The two clubs I hate would have to be Chelsea and Manchester City. I hate our rich neighbours purely because for about a decade there we couldn't lay a finger on them, they were winning ****ing everything and rubbing our noses in it. Since Abramovic left and they've fallen away I've lost a bit of my fire towards them though.

Same for City really. Just sick of them winning everything. Having a blank checkbook where Pep can handcraft his perfect squad seemingly with no repercussions must be nice (I'll be shocked if they don't weasel their way out of the charges).

I've started developing a real dislike for Newcastle since their PIF takeover too. Thoroughly unsociable football team, and our league game at St James' Park last year was spicy. Havertz and Bruno G both should've been sent off but weren't, was a very firey football match. They've made a real habit out of beating us and kicking the shit out of us while they do it.

Poor old Arteta with just the £650m to spend, don't know how the poor lamb copes.

650m spent over 6 seasons, and 105 of that was on one player (Rice).

City's spend in the same time frame is well over 1 billion.

And that's without delving into how much Haaland's deal actually cost.

Arsenal don't have a single player earning more than 300k per week, City have 4 (and Marmoush on 295k for what it's worth, not to mention Haaland’s extension puts him at well over 500k a week).

Nice try though.

I cant believe just how quickly Arsenal fans ĥave abandoned the net spend argument. Poor old Moh :D

To be fair, on wages, the bridesmaid has saved Arsenal a fortune in win bonuses that's true.

Pep giving it a try this season.

It's funny supporting from this side of the globe. The local rivalries (Derby/Coventry) don't really provide the animosity when you haven't grown up there.

I hated Watford for a while after 'DEEEEEEEEEEENEY' but then that subsided with all the success we had afterwards. Never been overly fond of Leeds, wouldn't call it a hatred though.

Not my most hated but fair to say Arsenal are fast becoming that club. Their fans are childish and entitled, plus Arteta is an apple off Pep’s entitled, pretentious spoiled tree. So agonising yet hilarious to watch

Can't get into the A-League and it being a closed shop league. Don't get the appeal of Adelaide United being a bandwagon state team made from scratch getting a guaranteed spot while clubs with a long history like Adelaide City are stuck below.

Div 2 when that comes out sounds more appealing, but I wish there was promotion/relegation.
The A-league is bleeding money and on life support. There will not be a division 2 under this model.

I don't know if I 'hate' any club anymore.

There are clubs that I'm not fond of:
  • Barcelona (rivalry with Chelsea + 'mas que un clube' posturing)
  • Juventus (rivalry with Fiorentina + weaken other Serie A clubs, including Fiorentina)
  • Man U (I used to loathe them during the SAF years, but now I just pity them - I'd happily see them go another decade without winning a title, though)
  • Arsenal (rivalry with Chelsea)
  • Tottenham (rivalry with Chelsea + good source of humour)
  • Lazio (Nazi/fascist connections)
  • QPR (threw stuff at our players when we beat them at Loftus Road in 2014/15 - don't want them in the PL any time soon)
I think PSG, Bayern and Man City are/were too dominant in their leagues, but I don't really dislike them.

Many Chelsea and Liverpool fans don't like each other, but I've honestly never felt much animosity towards Liverpool. Maybe it was because I started supporting Chelsea during the SAF years. Maybe it's because I'm not near Anfield. Maybe it was because Hicks & Gillett were dreadful owners. Maybe it's because the Liverpool fans I know are usually pretty decent guys.

Chelsea and Leeds fans traditionally hate each other, but Leeds have generally been irrelevant over the past 20+ years, so I don't share that sentiment.

Fulham is a one-sided rivalry.

There is a wiki page on the Chelsea/Liverpool rivalry which I consider pretty accurate.

2003-2015 was a bit more heated.

2016-Present it's died down a lot. Although we did have an FA Cup, Super Cup, and 2 League Cup Finals in recent years but it's been one way traffic.
