Brisbane had their worst pressure game in a long time today.

I gave them a pass for their failure against us due to a 5 day break. Kingy gave them a "mulligan" against the Giants due to "the emotional impact of the injury to Paine" 🤔. That's flimsy, definitely not doing that.

The Lions are a good team, but their form is not good. They have some work to do before being considered a top tier contender this year. Defensive work has been inconsistent and rarely elite. Offensively they have struggled at times against top teams. They're clearly playing self satisfied footy, even most of their wins have come from burst scoring.

Without Daniher I don't think they're a big threat (though the return of Coleman is big). Maybe it clicks at some point, but right now I have Cats, Giants, Crows, ahead of them, and Hawks not far off.

I didn't see the game but looking at that scoreline it would appear Brisbane didn't lose through lack of opportunity they simply didn't take enough of the chances they generated for themselves. It didn't help that the Giants were ridiculously accurate in comparison (especially in the first half)

That can be improved on by Brisbane and it's an easier fix than not being able to put yourself in a position to win a game.

I wouldn't be getting ahead of myself if I was a Giants supporter as good fortune (Payne injury, Lions 9 more scoring shots) looks to have played a role in that victory.

P.S- Only 70 tackles combined in this game so both sides seemingly prepared to play an attacking and open end to end style of game. As a comparison only 61 combined when we played Brisbane earlier in the year at the Gabba. Brisbane laid 28 tackles in both.

Geelong would seem to be the major threat to us at this stage.
The Roar say they are now premiership favourites, based on their demolition of Essendon.
Sure, it was an impressive win, but Essendon were terrible, so it was hardly a good test.
They say Geelong can improve, but so can we.
Just wait until Nick and Dan Houston get going.
Big Dan too.

Still the umpires for me

That’s the reason that even on the odd occasion we beat the Cats, it’s generally not a “big” win.

The umps don’t allow us to build a real lead against them.

Still remember in 2011 when they didn't allow the Pendles goal.

Can anyone name something that went in our favour from the umpires in one of our games against Geelong?

Leading into finals they are a major threat (with their piss weak draw), but with easy wins they may start drinking their own bath water and and may fly out of finals faster than Carlton last year.

Is this a serious question?

I think there are still questions on the Cats. However, with Smith now pairing with Holmes, their outside run, at pace, is a difference maker. We're not strong in that aspect and it can cause us problems.
Had our recruiters had some nous of footy talent they may have observed Holmes showed a lot more than McRae for eg. Imagine him and Nick driving our midfield.

They were from the covid draft. Neither of them played footy in their draft year. Holmes played 1 game the previous year whilst McRae was a very good player in the U18 Premiership team.

Highlights and draft testing showed one very quick runner who could boot the footy a mile compared to a very slow runner with a poor kick. It’s a bugger we misjudged

It was a time when Hine was looking more for basketball, soccer and water polo backgrounds. The Geelong dude had a cricket background and didn't fill one of the criteria. Other than that, I have no idea what Derek was thinking at the time

They play rich in round 17 and then again in round 24! This years draw is beyond cooked. Finalists from last season getting one let alone TWO double up games against any of rich, north or eagles is just complete bs.

The double ups we got against bottom 8 teams as a team that missed finals are Freo, Melb, and adel..
Not sure how AFL could have predicted Freo Adel or Melbs improvement- we are just unfortunate. Nothing sinister here.

Wow if the “roar” mentions that then it must be!

GWS & Sydney away for the Cats are 50/50 at best, the rest are just about gimmes for them, they’ll be 1st or 2nd by end of year.

You realise the roar is basically the channel 31 of the sports news world. It's literally some bloke in his garage. Probably a Geelong fan.

Yes maybe but he is correct no team should be getting 2 games against of these teams unless Rich v Nth or WC playing each other because it was obvious before the season started these teams would be up against it.

The fairest way would be the teams who finish lowest play against each other the most often.

Ditch opening round.
All teams play each other once by the end of round 17.
New fixture released for round 18 onwards with all top 8 teams playing each other again. This determines final placing. Bottom 10 teams play a seeded system to qualify for draft picks.
9th place gets the first draft pick, 10th the second and so on.
Could also include a wildcard game where 8th plays 9th in the round before finals for an elimination spot.
