Wow. 20 and 21 year olds. Been our strongest line consistently this year. 2 very talented suns players. Not up to their usual high standards for parts of a game and they cop this. 🙄
They definitely had a bad game.

That was probably the worst game I’ve seen Uwland play, sadly.

Mac just isn’t able to play his natural game at the moment, either. That injury maybe put him far behind, or losing Ballard stifled him. Or both.

Backline as a hole struggled today. Just making unforced errors and very panicked. Slipping over. Putting players under pressure. Taking the game on and getting tackled. Just a lot of things they don’t usually do. Giving up those s*** goals Hardwick raves about etc.

But they’ve shown this year how strong they can be.

Just need all lines to play well at the same time, rather than alternating.

Uwland’s worst game since those 4 early on. He’ll bounce back

Back in that first presser post Ballard injury, Dimma mentioned trying both structures depending on matchup. CGraham should be back for vfl next week from his injury. Give him a 2s game then play him vs Essendon under the roof just to see if Mac’s intercept game explodes again

Especially why Dimma is still exploring with the forward structure surely it’s worth exploring down back as well

Was certainly a better performance than previous games in the wet. Just frustrating to lose

That's essentially how I see it. Would've loved to have secured our first win in west Sydney today, but that's by far the best we've played against the Giants in a long, long time and they are a good team who were in unbelievable form going into this one after beating Brisbane at the Gabba last week. It took some ridiculously accurate goal kicking from Stringer to actually beat us today. I believe if you had played that game at PFS then we would've won and I now think we're a huge chance to beat them in the reverse fixture in round 23.

Some in the media are saying it was game of the year. That says a lot about the performance of both clubs.
I have just watched 3rd quarter. We were bloody better team again. I liked how we played. Ainsworth looked like a changed man. Again missed shots. Yeah, Uwland had a poor game, turnovers from his kicks.

Agree, after 3 quarters, I have to say it was a great game to watch. A lot of pressure, contest, taking game on.

Kingsley mentioned at least 4 times that we are very, very good side, hard to play against with great system. I have to say GWS were lucky a bit, haha (before watching last quarter).

Now the last quarter, haha.

Finally, I watched the last quarter. It's not like Giants overrun us. Basically all went right for them.

Obviously, 4 quick goals early (in the first 4:30 min) was crucial. Surprisingly 2 were from CBAs where we dominated during the game (we had double centre clearances).

The momentum shift was the second goal when Collins attempted a risky kick inside (he limited them this year) resulting in turnover followed by Mac stupidly trying to kick the ball (he did have a dirty night).

Another crazy moment was 50m penalty resulting in Giants goal. Not sure what this one was for. Not going to replay it.

Some fantastic goals from Stringer while we missed again. Callaghan had some great moments and Green was fantastic too for Giants. People should give Giants a lot of credit.

I am still filthy we lost. It was unbelievable opportunity. Watching finally the whole game I am actually quite optimistic. We looked good, had energy. Taking game on. Some link ups were great. Midfield did a great job except a couple of crucial CBAs in last quarter. No choke for me. Most of the game was on our terms, 70% forward time (according to Dimma).

Anderson and Miller were fantastic. Rowell was also good. A bit disappointed by Rioli. He missed defensive assignment in the last quarter resulting in goal on top of his bad turnover in the first quarter also resulting in goal. I expect more from him. Poor game from Uwland and Mac.

It was a cracking game.

IMO, opinion if we play like this in remaining games we play finals. Question is can we. Improving set shots and limiting crap goals would help :) We missed so many shots, opportunities.

BTW, commentators pissed me off. Some true idiots there. Joking that Rowell may now reconsider, and so on.

Two crucial games coming. You can do it, Suns.

People are hating on Walter as well for his bad misses yesterday. I get he set shots are all over the place right now but I've seen so much improvement this year then last year.

People need to realise most fowards take time to develop. Look at Cadman recently. His finally started to kick multiple goals in his 3rd year after developing the 1st 2 years. Walter is in his 2nd year now and having plenty of shots this year.

I think our foward coaches need to work on his shots on goal badly because it looks messy and really the only thing letting him down right now.

I am definitely not in haters camp. I actually like him this year. Developing nicely.

Yes, his set shot needs a lot of work. Often it's our plan to bring ball quickly inside 50 and he does bring ball to ground in contest and provide great pressure. I would definitely not drop him.

If it's against us I'll do my lid.. midfielders aren't forwards, just because you put them there
I agree wholeheartedly and ive been saying that for ages. Leo, Rogers, Budarick, Holman, absolutely none of this guys are forwards.
But I still do not want Stringer on my team.

Is he not better than buddas? Wtf are we doing here? Pick a fwd
I get trying Budders up forward BUT doing that OVER using Farrar when he is hot in the 2's

Then when Budders looked bad waiting to replace him so late with Holman was dumb coaching I think should have had Holman on 4th quarter all quarter

OUr forward line has and will continue to kill us if something is not changed.

Trying to play king who isn’t very mobile wants it dropped on his chest or out in front for the arm chop free

And Walter and read who are in their second year imo we can’t carry them both through development if we want to win games

Ainsworth good game but is inconsistent regularly goes missing

Long gets off the chain and gets a few and does his best but opposition can usually shut him out when he’s hot.

Some people calling for moyle to play over read is just as bad and doesn’t work

Also the sub is an issue. Need someone who can come on and make a difference I don’t think Holman and previously Ainsworth can offer that

100% spot on. I think at this point Holman should take Reads spot. We don't need 3 talls, it's just not working. I like Ainsworth and long but I think this trade period we really need a pure small foward ( not one that is a mid fwd).

With the sub they should give Farrar a go. He has got a bit of form in the Reserves besides on the weekend and can play foward or back.

We need this foward line to get better especially when it's going in there 60 times a game. Most teams would love to have it that many times in there foward 50

Personally, I think people are too harsh on our forward line, offense. Sure, definitely scope for improvement but our average score is 93 despite 2 wet games when we scored only 64 and 37. E.g., Giants average is 86, Lions 87.

A lot of criticism after Giants games despite scoring 99 while missing 2 100% shots and probably another 5-7 gettable ones.

King is a primary example. He did score 2 goals - one from fantastic contested mark. He also handballed to Miller for goal on goal line. So that would be another goal and then he missed gettable one at the end.

Virtually every forward player should score at least one extra goal. E.g, Long missed 2 gettable shots. A couple of kicks on full.

We were 14.15 with couple of shots on full. With just average conversion we probably scored 120+ and won comfortably.

It's Dimma's system. He loves moving ball forward quickly, at least bring ball down and create chaos. Keep ball forward more than opposition and the team usually wins.

Despite long balls into packs, we also had 11 marks inside 50 vs Giants 6 while Giants had there Coleman winner Hogan, Cadman, Brown, Greene, Stringer.

Crap goals is another story. 1-2 is OK, 5-7 not so.

King is a 1 trick pony, I can't wait to hear the offers from Collingwood. Go sit in the goal square somewhere else. Jed and Ethan are too young and ineffective in a team pushing for finals. Long is a gun, Humphrey is a gun and Ainsworth played like a gun. It's one thing to win inside 50s, it's another to convert that into a score.

Do you think we can win a premiership with a forward line of Walter and Read in 2027?

King can’t go without a ready made 60+ goal forward replacing him..

Yep... i do. Especially if we get some actual forward pockets. The two kids are going alright in my opinion, but they're probably costing us games right now as we push for finals in 2025, it's not an easy solution to get games into them for 2027 while trying to make finals in 2025
