Morris field kicking has been so impressive, I have also questioned if he could be a tall midfielder that rested forward, similar to Bont. His tank doesn't seem insanely impressive right now but it's still early days for him I suppose. We are pretty stacked midfield wise but he would bring an interesting point of difference with his height. Would also fit our game plan where we like to use Dunkley / Berry as a bail out kick on the wing from defense alot.
Rather than Morris I'd say Hipwood playing further up the ground is a really good move unlocked by us. He can comfortably hit a short pass or a long kick as well as seems to gain more confidence with ball in hand. It also freed up the forward line for Morris who is thriving with all the space.

Hipwood field kicking is a lot better than his goal kicking. Joe was the same :)
Said for years I see him more a 200cm Half Forward or Wing then Key Forward. He not like the King brothers who sit back and mark.
I understand the Morris idea although I say he is our best bet to complete a contested mark in forward 50.
Rayner and AhChee can although most of our guys either lead up or go for the big speccy
Was a difference McStay used to give us as well.

i meant more long term on my statement of Morris, if he can build the engine to run through the midfield then could be a good counter part to our other smaller mids. Especially if we end up with a Draper & Allen at the end of this year.

Morris in the midfield is up there as one of the most bizarre calls in footy history.
Just to be clear I’m not suggesting full time as I can’t see that ever happening.
The one thing our team lacks is a big bull midfielder. He could pinch hit one or two per qtr. It could also allow for a AO, Ty, Logan and Eric - forward/ruck/bench rotation.

People are underestimating the flow on effect of recruiting Oscar Allen in terms of draft rortz.

Let's say our current offer is 800k for OA - maybe doubtful to be band 1 compo. We up it to 850, Eagles get Pick 2, and then they look at their draft board and decide that Annable isn't worth a pick 1 or pick 2 bid ;)

Richmond I'm sure won't want him so now that's pick 5 - if the Saints bid we should let them take him and just tell the kid we'll get him back in two years or even less, he just has to claim to miss mum's cooking and all the AFL will support him against those nasty Saints.

Letting the saints take him and then having him request a trade in the post-draft media pressers the next day would be optimal.

But when St Kilda does bid on Annable and then we match, it has the other flow on effect that when they inevitably whinge, the kid they do pick up feels unvalued and he looks to get out as soon as possible and it will be even better if he projects as a superstar. Then we get them again on two fronts.

No doubt he might be able to, but I remember we rolled Jono Brown through the centre in about 2005. He was quite effective but if I recall he picked up some injuries which put an end to it to preserve his career long term.

It’s a lot of bash and crash and I’d prefer to play someone with his skill set in the front half where his impact is maximised.
JB was racking up some ridiculous numbers during his short stint in the midfield. Damn pity he wasn't built for it.

2006 JB one of the great what ifs. Leading the Brownlow when he got OP and then he was never seen in the midfield again.

People have this bizarre obsession that as soon as a player does well in a role, we should consider putting them on ball. They never consider that there are only about 5/22 on ball spots and we actually need to find players to fill all of those other roles. Just maybe when we strike gold in someone like Morris or Starc or Fletcher in a role we should just lock them in there. We already can't fit all the pure on ballers at once

I'll post in X "see you in 12 months Annable dear !!!"

We can't, but we should be trying to get the ball in the hands of our best users as much as possible. They don't have to play onball to do that though.

Throwing around possible offers for Draper well above 700k 🤮🤮🤮

Sam we have a toxic culture and are coached by an elderly gentleman who sometimes forgets to use the sub. Don't choose us!

At what price point would you take Draper Tom14 ? 650k/700k seems about right? The only question I have is could he look good in a good team that doesn't have a midget midfield.

Crows/Lions don't have to offer that though, Essendon want his new club to offer more so they get good compo, similar to West Coast with Barrass last year.
Any offer from either the Crows or us relying purely on money instead of club culture, team, goals in footy, etc is a bad offer

I will hold my nose and accept it if it was like $650k or less? I don't know, if he earns more than Eric its a disgrace.

Has none of the attributes I want in a ruckman and will be expensive. I'm sure he would look better with our mids but averages about the same number of clearances as Fort, a tick more intercept marks (1.2 per game) but nothing exciting. The achilles injury is massive too.

Correct and he's an unrestricted free agent so no risk of essendon matching (sadly).

The scary thing is it sounds like Essendon are being rational and offering a contract at his actual value. Us and Adelaide seem to be making the crazy offers. Say it ain't so.

Never thought I'd see the day when we were in the same boat as Crazy Adelaide.

I dunno, Dom Ambrogio knows more about this than any of us obviously and maybe he's correct but I've got my doubts!

I also assume it means we are losing a ruck if we are adding one at that cost point. Surely we ain't paying all of O, Fort and Smith to play ressies.

You'd think our offer would be more enticing for the future and on slightly less money/length than the Crows can offer. In saying that though, if Draper does choose Adelaide it makes the ruck merry fo round more interesting, does O'Brien go to Essendon or Brisbane or somewhere else?

I'd take O'Brien and blissfully pretend I didn't know too much about SOME of his views on life.

Yeah assume O is a retirement possibility. I really hope Henry gets a run of games at the end of this year, think he has potential albeit still wouldn't be ready to be a number 1 ruck next year.
