Autopsy Saints forget how to kick a ball and lose to Hawthorn.

Kingy said it in the post game, Max King plays and we win. It’s not that far away.
Hard to say …throw in Day for them …v good player
But what I saw from Hawks was nothing scary tbh … our kids look more promising
I can see why Mitchell said post game he just has no answers after trying 3 seperate tags on NAS ….”I was worried even when he (NAS) was on the bench!!”
It’s not just our forward line is the issue - it’s that last kick into 50 no surprise top sides are simply more efficient at it
We butchered so many opportunities going inside but I felt for do much of play we dominated
I think Bolton should go and agree a smart forwards coach who can work on our leading patterns would be nice…who do Pies have? They never bomb ….always hit up that short lead ….it probably also helps their guys take their chances from 40 out…
Owens 1 wood is his contest not kicking - use him in a part of the game that plays to that …not as the guy finishing off our hard work he has no polish
Higgins should be forced to kick around corner
Interesting hearing Mitchell say how much work they put into goal kicking …that’s on coaching
Why Keeler isn’t being taught to lead up at the ball carrier instead of trying to out muscle for a mark is a mystery …
Why players get to 55 out then kick long to a pack 15 out is bizarre when we have no talls….is that ooor decision making or game plan? Would love to know

Forward line looks confused to me, players seem unsure. There were passages of yesterday's game where guys like Sharman and Keeler were both leading to the same spot rather than providing two separate options and drawing a Hawks player away from the contest.

I think that's poor coaching but also a bit of inexperience. Keeler should be encouraged to lead like he did last week but I think Lyon likes a tall target plonked at the top of the square to spill for smalls.

Our best and most exciting picks of the past 20 years were picks 11, 10 and 10.

Enjoy the few wins we may or may not get and let the draft take care of itself instead of being an armchair draft expert creating hysteria and misery over a two spot difference.
Your first point is more to the fact we have drafted poorly over 20 years.

Your second point is factually incorrect and we can easily refer to Twomey. There will be half that top 10 taken via academies at this point aswell as the eagles getting band 1 compo.

We are level on points with Melbourne and a game behind Essendon. We play both and North + Richmond.

Beating those sides doesn’t tell us anything we don’t know. But it can impact our future by allowing them all to have better access to talent than we do.

Throw in Uwland Annable Patterson & King before our pick and we are at pick 11.

Those 2 spots could be the difference again between a midfielder we need and a half back

That’s the unknown
IF that’s the instructions it’s alarming the kid so much better in the lead
I think it has to be ….he wouldn’t just stay home in frontbgoals otherwise
Maybe it’s the “bring it to ground” type approach bht he’s just not strong enough

Again ....... our picks get shoved down the order. Ross and our CEO's call out of the academy's / list structures has substance. Plays into the narrative of it being difficult if not impossible to get out of no man's land.

We need some top up class in the middle along with a player or two in the forward line who can kick straight. Finishing and confidence where the difference against the Hawks.

Something seems to have changed in our forward half over the last six or seven weeks. Sharman, Owens and Higgo are much more stationary, playing from behind and seem to be covering less ground in the forward half- Sharman looks to be instructed to stay close to goals and not to fly for big marks, and you can see the indecision amongst these guys.

Not too sure what Lyon and his forward coach are up to, but it's not working- the forward half seems disconnected with the rest of the team, should be more mobile, work harder to make distance between themselves and the opposition, take more risks and play higher up the ground.

Wow, Garcia had the second lowest TOG of anyone who wasn’t subbed on or off (61%), yet had a game-high 8 clearances. To go with his game-high 10 last week (from 83% TOG).

He looks like he could be our Libba.

Pou, Hugo, Box, Windy and maybe Nas and Trav could be a very good midfield going forward.

Every time between quarter breaks, in the rooms, or footage at training it's Hugo talking with Macrae. The contested pig apprenticeship is well underway, his work the last few weeks has lifted a notch.

It’s time to mothball a few, get them in early for any surgery’s and play the kids.

I really want to see more of Boxshall, Schoenmaker, Travaglia, Collard, O’Connell and I’d like to see Max Heath get a debut. All of those players have a genuine case for inclusion and the club will benefit far more from development games than a few meaningless wins.

It’s all about next year now and if supporters aren’t excited by what we’re building then they’re hard to please. You can see how with a few additions, a full list and natural development were going to be right in the mix.

The magic missing piece is a gun mid, everyone needs to keep that in mind imo.

It's not exactly a high percentage play.
I know. I like what he’s doing id just rather see him lower the eyes a bit first before blasting away looking for the Hollywood long shot. It paid off the first couple of times he did it but hasn’t got one since.

I’ve criticised Lyon before for his defensive game plan and our often ineffective attack. But for context, we’re 15th on the ladder with the 10th-ranked offense. Teams around our level are actually struggling to score more than we are.

Ineffective offense still annoys me but maybe its more reflective of our overall level.

I thought Tauru struggled a fair bit defensively last night. This is not a criticism. Of course only game 3. But I feel like his highlights glossed over any discussion over the poor aspects of his game.

As said by Ross in the presser, Fremantle slow ball movement allowed Tauru the time to jump and spoil everything but Hawks quicker ball movement meant it was a lot more difficult.

There was a lot of Tauru flying defensively and not making contact with the ball. He was out marked a couple of times when he chose to mark instead of spoil.

I also don't think it was a coincidence in regards to Hawthorn scoring 24 times from 42 inside 50's. There were several occasions when Tauru flyed, didn't make contact with the ball and Hawks had bulk numbers at ground level to score.

Essentially, Tauru, Caminiti and Hastie in particular struggled when the ball hit the ground and we had no synergy in being able to stop the Hawks scoring when they got entries.

That cohesion will hopefully come in time but there is plenty to work on and could be some pain ahead as the defensive connection develops.
He was out positioned and ran under a few but I think you’re over playing it
If that’s him playing poorly after game 3 …I’m happy to see how he travels at game 100
Least of our issues last night
Ball into forward 50 is where you want to focus

Garcia as others have said is adjusting for the speed of the game he doesn’t look panicked and has a nice side step that opens play up
Very promising must keep playing him

On the bright side we've really nailed our picks at 10 & 11 lately.

Windy's delivery inside 50 is woeful. Yes he's doing some good things but his kicking is absolutely shithouse.

One of the worst displays of kicking from a team you'll see.

Don't worry about Max King... we should have won that game with the players we had last night.

Henry needs a rocket.

Sincs stepped up late, but we need more from him through the game.

I'm over Butler. I'd be happy to never see him play in the 1's again.

It looks like Garcia is going to be an important part of our midfield.

Hall fantastic.

Nas unreal.

Thought Hammer looked solid.

There's a lot to like, but we have to fix our skills. It's beyond a joke. Needs to be a huge focus. That, and lowering your eyes ffs.

Our forward structure looks shite too.

Really hope they don't drop Hastie next week. Kudos for turning it around.

I'm actually hopeful. Think we're building a decent team. That kicking tho......
Won’t drop Hastie. Think Ross acknowledged him in the presser.
Webster’s done a calf so that’s probably the last we see of him - sad way to end his career. Been an excellent player for us.

Butler meh
Wood meh - what’s happened to him? Was a regular goal kicker.
Hill meh - but I can see we will still play him for his run

Hopefully Trav, Boxshall get more game time from here on. Youngsters are leading the way and that’s great to see.

Just praying Max King comes right. 🙏🏼

Yeah, and they literally said in the telecast "$1.2 million, they've matched the offer from the Adelaide clubs"

I just shook my head and stared blankly into my cup of tea for a moment.

A lesser man would've smashed his TV into a thousand pieces.

And still, if you suggest he should be offered more, given St Kilda allegedly has "more cap room than any team in AFL history" numpties on this forum will say "it's not about the money for him".

I wish I was joking...

Just as;

Man is contracted to October, if rando club is out there all "I'll give 1.2!" this isn't a barter or bidding system, so if second rando goes to you "rando offered this!" for a grab you're swatting that away with "we can match that, nothing to see here". rando 2 then plasters that in print media for the scoop for their narrative.

It's really a nothing instance to get huffy about, just more nonsense around the situation.

All I know is, did lol when Battle tried to stage for a free and instead just had to pick himself up from the ground. Time was you'd hunger that contest, I see instead you instilled a snowflake instead. #FamFirst

Happy for Butler to get to 150, but I'm not sure why we signed him for another year. Every game he plays it's another game that Collard doesn't. We don't need him, Hall and Higgins in the same 22.
Happy for Buts to have another year as long as he understands that he probably wont be best 22 next year (assuming Lance pulls his finger out)

Good leader. Good guy to have at the club on cheap money

Won’t drop Hastie. Think Ross acknowledged him in the presser.

Nor should we.

The rest of this year should be about developing players, and not trying to win every game. Though some if this may actually improve our ability to win.

So Hastie yes should stay in, or at least for now as for example we may also want to give LOC more senior games this season.

Nas as part of his development needs more midfield time. This also allows us to develop Hastie, LOC etc across HB.
