IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Composure
  • Contested marking
Funny that should be mentioned. I too have been impressed with Faull's ability to compete aerially and on the ground for that matter. Obviously his goalkicking has become a tiny bit of a problem but I think it is a composure issue rather than a technique issue.

Yesterday he kicked a behind in the 2nd half (pretty sure it was the 3rd qtr). It wasn't an easy kick by any means but the camera was right behind him and you could tell by his run-up he was going to miss it. The biggest thing that caught my eye was that he was moving the ball around during his run-in and swaying it all around. Always tough to execute a good ball drop when you're doing that. The commentators also noted he took a big step out to the right just before he kicked.

The goal he kicked (admittedly he was a lot closer in) he lined up with more purpose, ran in a straight line and appeared to keep the ball still as he came in to kick. Result was a lovely bit of contact on the ball and it split the middle.

Composure is clearly an area he needs to work on. Fatigue may very well be playing a factor, by the time he takes a mark he is gassed and can't get his breath back which leads to arms swinging, stepping out hooking the ball to try and get distance. Another pre-season and a full one (remember he came with a back issue and was limited this past one) will no doubt help.

He is a good one, just needs to chip away at the goalkicking. It is a tough gig in our forward line atm, he is going to be fine.

Didn't get much of a preseason for anyone to correct his technique either. I have nfi what people are on about with his marking though. He's taking plenty of marks all over the ground. He's way ahead of where I'd pegged him, didn't really rate him pre-draft. He's shown the most of any kpf in his class by a mile when you factor in the quality of ball coming in with 99% of entries directed to a 2v1 Lynch or just bombed to a pack.

Reckon he should be played off a HFF , gets monstered close to goal , sure he competes but he does t look like taking a grab , not many first years do I spose down there ,,, his strength is agility , he looks best when he can get up the ground and come across packs ,,,, so play him higher and avoid him being planted close to goal

He doesn't look true key position sized to me. It's not just the weight on him but height wise. Always seems smaller than his opponents.

I was watching Jobe Shanahan who is also listed at 195cm and he looks a lot bigger than Faull does. I haven't trusted that 195cm measurement since he was drafted. Perhaps he's more 192-193cm.

Size is deceiving.
Jack R was actually taller than Nick R

Not sure about that. It can deceiving though. Faull looks to have shorter arms which may be throwing me off whereas someone like Shanahan has very long arms and limbs.

I'm not sure why the AFL doesn't put more emphasis into wingspan like other sports. You won't get drafted early in the NBA with a short wingspan. The longer you can reach as a tall the better. Just look at Sam Darcy.

He's only 19 so still potentially growing. Whether he's 192 or 195cm doesn't matter, we have a good one with Jonty. Charlie Curnow is listed at 191cm but plays a lot taller the that. From memory Jack Reiwoldt was listed at 193cm.

We have the worst fwd line in the comp
Rarely get quick ball inside fwd50 giving our talls a 1v1

Forwards look better in better teams. The fact he is showing what he’s showing so early is a bloody highlight.

Our forward 7 yesterday:

Alger 2 games, 18yo
Faull 11 games, 19yo
Sims 6 games, 19yo
Lalor 10 games, 18yo
Campbell 36 games, 20yo
Balta 111 games, 25yo likely about 20 games max as a key forward
Mansell 65 games, 25yo only about 2 years in the forward line

Lalor subbed out then on comes:

Rioli 41 games, 22yo

You have 5 x 18-20yo's being led by 3 guys with an average of about 35 games each as forwards at AFL level.

Playing against a top 4 team on a ground where they have about a 4-5 goal advantage.

We just have to let these guys find their way and sadly, there will be plenty of times where they cannot compete on any sort of level terms with the opposition. Until they can. Then the tables will turn very rapidly.

We also must remember the time he marked in another game and his boot slipped off. He didnt even put it back on properly before kicking

Just on the bolded bits, those kicks where he steps out looking for distance and ends up kicking across his body are what everyone is noticing. I would say the majority of his misses have been from outside 50 but those misses have been going through at half post high. To have someone who can kick goals from outside 50 is a real weapon to have at your disposal and it might mean just a simple re-alignment to correct the direction of the leg, ie: get it swinging directly at the goals. As you said, he is much more direct when closer to goal leading to the kicking leg following through towards the goals rather than at the point post.

Just a reminder what this bloke can do. This is a preliminary final without Lalor against Jagga, FOS and Gross.

This one was first game off a long term back injury. Ass goal from the boundary lol, Smillie had a similar one at same ground in finals.

Another final...

Final as a bottom ager...

Big game player. Get this guy a few pre seasons and look out.

I liked him last year. Great dukes, an excellent vertical leap, he took the most contested marks in the Nationals.
He’s also very good below the knees . Kicked some bags for the Bumbers 2s as well
I hate comparisons but plays a bit like Josh Treacy imo.
Reckon WC got themselves a good one.
Saw jonty beat Oakleigh Chargers virtually single handedly in last year's u-18s preliminary final at morrabin.it was a very strong windy day. He took 3 great marks on the lead and in pack.kicked 3 goals including the winning one.in that last quarter
Kicked 5 for the game
We have an absolute ripper of a forward in jonty
And with Tom and Harry we have a beautiful threesome going forward

You think oppo coaches would put their no 1 key back on either of those spuds?
It might not be a bad thing putting your best defender on a spud forward like Kozi or Ryan. If the defender is an attacking type imagine the amount of rebounds the defender would initiate.

We got Fevola there coaching the girls already, club should pay him extra to help Jonty and the likes his goal kicking ways

No brainer imo

Or Armstrong already has strong relationship Matty Lloyd so club should employ him as goal kicking coach

It’s so important imo

I have no doubt that you sit down to piss
WTF dude, doctors recommend sitting and peeing as it drains better. it's not like they tell you to wear a dress lol
A 2014 study by researchers from the department of urology at Leiden University Medical Center found that men who sat down to pee were able to empty their bladders faster and more effectively. That's because when you stand, you activate muscles in your pelvis and spine, but they're completely relaxed when you sit. Probably the reason for the huge, relaxing ahh sound men over 40 make when they sit down to whizz.

Sitting down to pee also obviously also helps with aim issues, allows men to evacuate the bladder fully and is a better option for men with other health issues.

‘Sitting down is a better option for men with prostate conditions or men who just can’t stand up for a long time,’ Dr Jesse N. Mills, Associate Clinical Professor at the UCLA Department of Urology
