I think the club prefers the cohesion in the reserves with the kids currently. Taking Lemmey out of the that team will have drastic effects on their performance. Losing Durdin and cincotta doesn’t really impact them as their is better reserves players that can play their role (Nelson, Hogg, Phipps-parsons and Stevens) in the seconds which would happily jump on an AFL list.

The one thing I’m concerned with is the impact acres could potentially have negatively on the reserves performance by missing targets and kicking it OOF every third disposal.

If we’re prioritising reserves selections over AFL selections, we’ve really lost the plot.

The VFL played 4 days ago. Pretty brutal to bring in a kid off a break like that - especially seeing as the game was pretty intense
If anyone is going to have the stamina to back up games, it's a 20 year old.
Besides, the coaches can plan for it by setting and sticking to high standards - poorly performing players in the ones should have a line drawn through their names the very next day, the coaches could manage the workloads of a younger player to be rested before a game.
How do you think everyone else does it?

That's just not true

Acres dropped....making a statement lol....that's dropping a name when you aren't really dropping a name
I'm not sure that's completely true. I think you'd find that Acres efforts have been very highly valued internally, and even mentioned externally. He does loads of defensive running and, as we know, has been a saviour in the backline several times as well as drifting forward and kicking key goals. He was doing Ollie Dempsey things (less spectacularly) before Ollie Dempsey. Maybe not as frequently but he was in that mould.

He's really gone away from that this yr, unfortunately. I'm not sure why, but imo the reason it's taken so long for him to be dropped is evidence as to how much faith the group has in him. But the dropping has been warranted for a long time now, I mentioned it I think prior to rd 6. He's had far too much leeway.

Evans was average but so were many others. It’s seems to be same names that constantly get shuffled without actually changing anything

Cincotta dropped last week, didn’t play reserves, then brought back in

I don’t get it
Think there might be

A) Some management to keep players eligible for VFL finals

B) Some assessment being done of those in danger of delisting at season’s end.

Perhaps someone shares your sentiment about keeping the young ones together as a “unit”.

Does anyone know whether the club have specific training programs for each player and their weaknesses?
Eg say they train 4 days a week, 2 days per wk tailored to each players weaknesses, the other 2 days for game plan/ match simulations etc.

For example I would have;
Lord/Weiters/Cripps/Cerra doing sprint/running sessions.
Charlie/Harry/Moir/Kemp leading patterns/tackling
Smalls fwds, crumbing, left/right foot kicking sessions
Cowan/Carroll/Ollie etc footskills, hitting targets
Doc/Saad/TDK/Arces composure under pressure sessions.

Is this to simplistic, does anyone know how they actually train???

Edit…probably wrong thread, but I had a lightbulb moment

Good.👍

Acres out frees up a wing to your Carroll, Moir, Williams, Lord types.

That lot are pretty good by foot, so hopefully it changes the dynamic quite a bit when we try to get the ball forward.

Baggers by a bees dick.

Get on it.😎👍
Watch it be Lord and Hollands instead.
I don’t understand the Boyd non-inclusion. We need his run and kicking but alas….
What run are you speaking of? Doesn't exist.

Good point, seems Durdin will be sub.
Hard to be inspired by the changes. The five small forwards continues to be a horrendous strategy and just underpins that Voss can’t coach. Hope Flynn gets a full game.
Really comes down to who can impact as a sub. We don't seem to have faith in a lot of our young wingers, or someone like Wilson coming in and playing wing/HF.

Bringing in kids off a 5 day break against the reigning premiers would have been a disaster.

Next week more viable.

Just heard Kingy on one of the fox shows talking about TDK forward and it’s unbelievable how poor he’s been down there.

285th out of 293 qualified players in the AFL. He’s taken 1 contested mark in the forward 50 for the season.

It’s getting to the point where I’d rather he leave than be given 1 million from us

There is absolutely no rhyme, reason, rationality or planning with selection...NONE

Eg. How many times now has Evans been selected, then dropped the following week?

Meanwhile, I reckon Coll planned who they were going to "manage" during the season from pre-season...and had contingencies in place if players became unavailable

Agreed, there was never going to be wholesale changes from the short VFL turnaround going into play the Lions.

Next week we have a long break from the AFL and VFL games into playing the Dees Saturday night which should be easier to cycle some more kids into the team.
