outside mids are a dime a dozen. Most able bodied human beings can run fast if they train enough. Being strong and having spatial awareness to not get tackled and being able to dispose of the ball with 3 people hanging off you.. this is a much rarer type of player.
And hitting targets by hand so they don't break stride is something a Brownllow medallist brings to the side. He was elite Friday

Just curious but why do you think he actually deserves another premiership?
There are 34 other players who have contributed so far this year.

I don't recall saying others didn't. There are clearly other players I would love to see win a Premiership. Pendles with 3 would be nice.

As for Tom I have huge respect for anyone who can overcome physical or mental injuries past the age of 30 and get themselves back in peak form ... side note: I am an a big Occy fan ... Tom, touch wood, is doing just that. \

From my perspective he was near best on ground in the 2023 GF and without him we would only have 15. So yeah I'm a fan and I want to see him help us get to 17.

I get that he was great in the 2023 GF but he has a medal for that.
Personally, I would like to see a premiership side get medals for the entire squad, anyone who played a game that year.
All contributed.

I think most clubs reward players with something as acknowledgement for being a part of the premiership year.

I still think only those who actually played in the premiership should get a premiership medal though.

Cant be all players, would have to be a certain number of games played, if we win it this year you would have players like Charlie West, Charlie Dean etc getting medals, minimum 10 games id say

Agree. We’re in every kid gets a medal territory. Not a fan of that.

So the actual players on the day get the medal.

All others acknowledgement in some form, for playing their part in the season is appropriate. Not a premiership medal though if you didn’t play on the day.

Now this is a much wider discussion that relates to all clubs rather than just a Tom Mitchell thread.

I certainly feel for any players who have had a major contribution during the year then miss out whether due to suspension, injury or some other factor e.g Noble.

There is certainly an argument for some acknowledgement ... the question is where do you draw the line? Can the player have played one game? Named sub once? Name emergency once? What is the minimum threshold?

In any case this is a much wider discussion ... as for me I feel we are going to want Tom Mitchell in the squad come September. I have a sneaky suspicion we could be playing the Lions again.

So a player who has played say, 16 games then got injured shouldn't get a medal?
I don't think that is a case of every kid gets a prize.
:(

Yeah, I'm not sure JFN would feel better about not playing on GF day if he had received a premiership medal. Likely only another reminder that he wasn't selected.

Feel the people that should have the biggest say in all of this are those who have actually missed out ...

Probably get a variety of views. I've heard some ex players that didn't play on GF day say they didn't think they should get a premiership medal. And I guess there would be some who would say the opposite.

I like the idea of the club doing their own thing & making a big deal out of it within the club, perhaps during their best & fairest award night.

I don’t want to exaggerate but Titch’s game highlighted why focusing on an individual player’s foot speed doesn’t tell the whole story when put into a team context.
It was like adding that slower, one dimensional but elite midfielder with exceptional hands actually sped the mids and whole team up half a yard.
It made me realise I’d underestimated just how much it influences the whole team witnessing it after a break.

Agreed. Foot speed is one type of speed (and definitely important). Thought speed is another and IMHO wins games. Pendles and Nick have the ability to sum up a situation very quickly and generally distribute the ball to the best position near the speed of thought. Tom also has this ability.

Gets circles ran around him, can ever keep his feet, can’t kick at all.

If he’s not handballing off the ground he’s useless.

One thing to do it against an abysmal Carlton team, it’s another to do it against high quality opponents.

He's definitely ahead of Long that's for sure. 0 clearances tonight. What's the point of a guy that slow and with disposal that iffy if he can't get the ball in close.
1 clearance against the Dee’s & only 1 last week against the Blues. Long isn’t the shoe in everyone says he is.
