If he wants out hes only gonna want out to a finals challenger (who needs a ruck) and Vic based id imagine.

Best case Collingwood or Geelong really. Not teams renowned for giving up firsts for 30 year old banged up guys IMO and again, if they do, theyre very very late firsts.
If they don’t give up their first he stays. Simple as that.
What is interesting in this is Ro’s mind set. If he has asked for a trade I think it’s more a response to how he’s feeling valued. It’s clear his body is not holding up so he may be looking at the end of his career and finals opportunity.
Either way we’ll make him honour the contract or receive overs.

Hills gotta go. Hes been my whipping boy for years (even before he came to us) but hes just deplorable defensively and Ross whole game is based off solid defensive work, added to the "play the kids" stuff he just has no place in this team anymore.

Yep, doesn't matter who comes in. Even Arie is someone I’d like to see on a wing/ half back.

Not sure i agree with this tbh.

If he requests a trade because were bringing in TDK then i think we should seriously consider something fair (not overs) which at his age and with his body would be a second.

We save some salary cap (rather than paying him $800k to sit in the VFL as depth). Theres gotta be some good faith for a guy who has bled and broken for the club if were pushing aside for a sexy younger model.

Ro gets on the park almost every week. He also has a lot of good games. I wouldn't label him as banged up.

I doubt we’ll be happy with a final top 4 team’s 2nd rounder which after academies and fs picks will likely be around pick 50.
I’d be keeping him. Ro is unlikely to be the sulky type rotting in the 2nds. He’ll push for selection. Looking at our balance atm I’d rather Ro at FF than Heath tbh.
Max I’m not even going to consider until he can consistently get on the park.

If TDK comes and Roma wants out, can't see us getting a first for Roma, I think it's very likely they'll use the Roma pick for Aleer.
Hadnt thought of GWS, not outrageous TBH. Good shout.

He "appears" banged up. Plus theres reports of him managing ongoing issues with his body most weeks. It will factor into teams considering getting him.

To be clear i love Roma, ive always been a massive fan. If anything im only advocating for being reasonable about a trade if he WANTS to go because hes earned the right to go where he chooses. If he wants to stay we should absolutely keep him and respect that.

I just dont see a club offering a first for him and i dont think we should hold him to ransom if thats not gonna happen.

Fair enough.

If he wants out i hope we dont hold him to ransom, weve made the choice to move on with a new ruckman, if he wants out we really should honor that request IMO.

Take the points for Fincher or whatever and accept the salary save whilst also respecting a heart and soul guy.

Clark 6 possessions in a whole half of footy is simply not good enough.
I noticed he was wearing a back brace when he was activated as the sub. Clearly not 100%.

Either way i think we need to move past Hunter. He is what he is unfortunately. Isn't explosive enough, but not contested/clearance machine and can't get his body right.

Garcia, Windy, Wilson, Boxshall and Nas are the future of our midfield. Just need to keep giving those kids time

Sentiment is fine but we’re a business. We won’t give away assets when it’s clear we have to fight harder, get nothing handed to us, than other clubs that the afl value in their expansion policy.
The gifts north are rubbish when these clubs sit in the top half of the ladder.
This will play in our mind. We’re not here for charity.

Clark, Jones and Hill can gagf at this point, we gain absolutely nothing from any of them playing at this point.

Frankly Howard is in the same boat IMO, play Collard at ****ing fullback if weve got nothing else, none of the old ducks is giving anything.

There is room for both.

Demanding overs for a guy weve spat in the face of by bringing in a younger model on double the money if he wants to leave is just poor management, trading him for a second (which is imo about market rate) isnt altruistic, we save coin and either get points for the academy kid or scoop a player we might like.

I think were pretty juxtaposed here philosophically, im all for getting fair value and im all for being a campaigner on the NAS deal if he wants to go, Roma is vastly different, we gain nothing by behaving like assholes for a guy who will 100% be playing twos next year (barring injury).

I’m certain we’ll look after Ro which ever way it goes. Not sure I agree that we’ve spat in his face. We’ve looked to bolster what absolutely everyone has said is a position we are vulnerable in. The number around his salary is in my opinion irrelevant at the end of the day.
Assholes do things to be deliberately nasty, we are not doing that, this is about maximising the clubs hand. If you have a higher pick you. Chances of a player higher it’s that straight forward for me.
Ro will be fine.

Marshall had one dump kick yesterday. Steele obviously focussed on not doing it to great effect. Garcia largely doesn't.

I mean, credit where it is due. We are playing a lot better in the midfield, and scored in the 80s yesterday. It's the defence (and that's on the whole team) that is not where it has been in previous seasons. Caminiti is learning but his mistakes seem to have major consequences. Hastie is young. Tauru was a bit ordinary yesterday.

You just need to find a way to win those games to make progress.

When was he subbed on? I thought it was during half time, but then I checked his tog% and it was 29% lmao

For a guy who plays out a whole game and only (at best) manages 75% of game time, for him to get 29% in what I presume was 2 full quarters is insane.

How long left on his contract? Doesn't have the tank for AFL footy. It's a real shame.

Does he smoke?

Holding him to a contract because someone doesnt cough up a first is being an arseh*le and spitting in his face to a guy who has given everything to this club when youre gonna have him playing in the twos behind the guy we wined and dined to get in IMO.

Ultimately to me if he wants out we should do right by him, demanding a first round pick isnt that IMO (if we get one great, if we cant we should accept a second or whatever and get it done).

Just on this point about ruckmen.

There was a point in time during the Freo game where I screen-shotted the stats.

Hit outs
Freo 48, St Kilda 19

Clearances
Freo 19, St Kilda 43
Yeah but what won Freo the game in the last qtr in the end?

Darcy went into the ruck full time and Jackson pushed forward to kick 2 goals and set up another.

What I'd like to see us try If TDK comes is Marshall play Forward half Ruck with 20-30% CBA's and TDK to play Defensive Half Ruck with 70-80% CBA's.

Don’t forget we’ve got the poo and Maxie to come back in yet.
Strangely enough the injuries of the last few years may be a blessing in disguise. We’ve been forced to play the youth thus ramping up their development exponentially.

Wouldn't it be TDK for Marshall? Don't think Marshall is a match winner but I think maybe the 'war chest' can be better utilised looking at a salary dump mid.

Anyway the facts are the club will take TDK as a FA if he agrees and will trade Marshall for a decent pick if offered, and it doesn't matter a jot what we think.

Just like if Lyon has us bottom four next year. We may all be asking questions about his tenure, the club won't listen.

Look at Port fans and Kenny. Must have called for his sacking for 5 years.

They finished on top of the ladder year after year but fell over in finals. We have been the polar opposite.

Don't worry, Jones and Hill have a tendency to look like Brownlow medallists against Geelong, so you can lock them in for a combined 60 touches and 4 goals this weekend...
