So it's suggested that we return to this ridiculous idea of selling home games interstate. What the hell is wrong with our club. During the premiership years we had more members than anyone else, yet we find ourselves in this situation. You don't see clubs like Collingwood, Carlton or Essendon selling games interstate. Can't believe how quickly we have declined to be even considering this. I guess it doesn't help when lazy supporters don't get off their backsides & actually attend games.
Our club hasn't looked at selling home games. This is coming from the Tasmanian government wanting Richmond to play 2 of it's home games in Hobart. Richmond FC haven't made a statement on it as far as I know.

In the past, we used to sell home games because we needed it. This time though, we don’t need it. Rather, it’s the Tasmanian government that wants us playing there.

They want to keep AFL hype going in their state leading up to their team’s entry in 2028. Can’t think of a better club than Richmond to keep that hype going. We have a decent supporter base there, we had some of the most notable Tasmanian AFL players (Richo, Riewoldt, Gale, Royce Hart, Nankervis etc.) playing for us. Not to mention that some of the most successful Tasmanian games involved us as someone said before.

As long as they (and the AFL) make it worthwhile for us, then I’m OK with it.

We'd be silly to knock it back if they are offering around 1.5 to 2 million a game.

This is more for Tassie than Richmond, we don’t need the funds

North is a disaster with no support, Richmond will sell it out while making a little bit of coin

Should be extended beyond the initial period
funds are and will always be needed..
the redevelopment and like every house hold, never ending bills.
if the cash is on the table and the contract works to our well being...
take the cash!

What value do you put on 2 extra losses? It cost us finals in 2012 playing GC in Cairns.

I'd want the club to explain why we are so desperate for the cash that we'd sell an MCG game.
Considering we finished four games out of the 8 in 2012, I don't think the trip to Cairns was the deciding factor.

I don't agree with selling games for money - sometimes we have had to do it. I would like to see a pretty good justification for this.

Everyone has a price. Even pies would give up 2 home games if the price was right.

It’s not the club selling games to Tassie as much as it is Tassie wanting the club to come. The most successful games at Hobart have both involved Richmond, and the additional tourism boost that local businesses would get (and the State coffers themselves) from two games a year is significant (it’s why the SA Government have put so much into Gather Round).

It’ll be a holdover until Tassie comes into the competition in a few years’ time.

I probably worded my part poorly, but at the end of the day there is a buyer and a seller. If they want a big team (and I'm sure it's Tourism Tasmania driving this) why can't it be Essendon, Carlton or Collingwood who sell to the purchaser.

Maybe promise Collingwood no games in Geelong?

I Personally don't mind it. I believe I saw a survery result a couple of years ago that broke down supporter allegiance and Richmond had the largest AFL supporter base in Tassie.

Similar to early days of Dimma, when attendances are down, selling poorly attended home games interstate where we will be financially better off during redevelopments makes sense and brings a sense of community to interstate members.

The argument of it being a disservice for the fans falls flat because you always get replacement games for sold home games and for us they are usually MCG games. So if anything fans actually get to attend more games at the G for the balance of their membership.

Aren't replacement games in general admission though? If so, it's a disservice to reserve seat members.

Lose a little bit off every Melbourne based membership as a result.
I’m not paying full whack on my 3121 membership and then having to watch 2 replacement games in GA for the same price.

I’d rather keep all the Melbourne home games.

maybe refuse to prop up minnows like norf, melbourne and minnowscray via equalisation and we'd have enough money to build a shite grandstand

they have no right to our money

It's only replacement games for 11 home game GA members though. For all other membership levels that include away games, that is less games and would mean that those memberships would have to be reduced as well. It's also means that you lose revenue from all the other things related to being the home team. So when you throw a figure around, that is not what you are actually making.

I don't mind going to Marvel. I don't understand when people say that it is a dump etc. You may not like the playing surface or the style that is played there, but as far as the seating and amenities go it not really any different to the MCG. Atmosphere wise, yes but that is because we generally play low drawing teams there.

It’s not as if Richmond approached the Tasmanian government and requested this. Additionally, let’s consider our Marvel Stadium home game crowds – they’re average. Furthermore, in the next two years, we won’t be playing off in the finals. A 30,000- crowd at Docklands would break even. So, do the maths.

Take the money and run I say.
