The only way to make the competition fair is to just play each team once.
Minor premiers win.
As that would shorten the season, you could then have have top 9 teams play a round robin, call it something else, maybe for prize money.

Not sure what to do with bottom teams, they could do the same.
The way it is now, that some top teams get to play mostly bottom teams in double up is unfair not to mention make for very boring one sided games.

This sounds a lot like what the AFL have put on the table for consideration. Except there would still be a ladder and finals and a grand final. Wouldn’t want to take away our future flag dominance.🥰

The proposal also includes a (mid season?) competition for all clubs, but not for ladder places or premiership points. Winner gets a big $ prize and a berth in the finals.

Minor Premiers win the flag 🤣
I know not ever likely to happen.
The AFL idea of doing something mid season for a month or so is a terrible idea.
If the winners of this mid season gets a berth in the finals, what happens if the winners are also the minor premiers?
Or is the mid season game just for the bottom teams in which case, what do the top teams do during this hiatus.
I know they are still trying to work out something but I reckon their greed will end up ruining the game.
I even saw one article saying they could bring in retired players in teams.

Nah, never liked the idea of minor premiers winning the flag. Our code’s grand final is sacred.

I’m not against the concept of the mid season competition- but would prefer more detail before I make up my mind.

The biggest plus for me in what has been outlined is the fairness of every team playing each other once - plus a couple of double up blockbusters. Assuming we play the filth in the latter, we get to beat Carlton twice a season for the rest of time.

We’ll do that anyway.

Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Work out how you can have umpires that actually understand the rules, and don't have to bounce or be marathon runners, to increase the pool to select the best from!

There's 4 field umpires getting in the way now, you don't need to be a marathon runner, you could do it from a ****ing wheelchair.

If there's to be a significant revamp to the fixture, I'd like to see a model similar to that employed in the Scottish Premiership whereby there's a split format that splits the fixture into two phases.

Under the Scottish Premiership system, each team plays every other team 3 times. The league is then split into 2 halves, with the top 6 playing one another once and the bottom six playing one another once. Once you're locked into one half, you won't move to another half.

Applying it to the AFL, teams would play one another once (so 17 games). Those that finish in the top 8 would then play each other once and those in the bottom 8 would play each other once, for a total of 24 games.

There would need to be some details ironed out around the allocation of home games, minimising breaks during the season to squeeze the additional game in (I'd scrap the pre-finals bye), whether a team is able to move from one half to another etc., however I don't think these issues would be insurmountable.

Clubs must all play each other once before any double ups.
Create a second-tier national league, with promotion and relegation between the two.

Top tier league is just 12 teams, and they play each other twice - one game home, and one game away. Top 6 make finals.

There’d be 7 teams in the Second tier (factoring in TAS), but the aim would be to also get it to a neat 12. We’d aim for a team in NT, and a (real) team in the ACT at a minimum so we’d have a truly national comp

This is a great idea, although figuring out who stays in the top 12 and who drops down would be controversial in the early stages.

Also, how would promotion and relegation work?

i.e. how many up and how many down?

The draft could be interesting too. Do you run a separate draft across the two leagues, with the second league having first access, or one single draft across both leagues? Would you also allow a loan system, similar to what football has?

Seriously I’m sick of all the changes. But I’d prioritise these if pressed.

* A team for each state and territory so NT, Tassie and ACT get a team. Not fussed if it requires relocation unless it’s us. Play everyone once the then finals.
*Free kick for 6-6-6 infringement. No warnings.
* Ban migraine inducing, relentless, mind numbing, flashing advertisements around the ground during play.
*Every game available free to air.

As per my post above I would take absolutely no responsibility for how it all pans out.

I want pot and a pie under ten dollars.
