Of course it matters. It means we're still in it right to the end. The top 9 sides are very even.

Dockers had their best side out there today. We didn't. And lost by a point.
But we're a system team not personnel reliant remember?

We are not personnel reliant to a point, the cracks are showing by having so many first up 23 out, so we ARE personnel reliant to a point.

We are not like other teams, we are more methodical than the rest to counterbalance our age demographic and our list not as star studded as say a Brisbane.

It is more reliable but not invincible, earlier in the year NO ONE could touch us, apart from 10 minute cats display that dismantled our team d. This happened again yesterday.
Not sure how anyone thinks that the main reason we lost is due to systemic breakdown of our defence.

Yes, we certainly did not latch on early enough on to the Voss vs Moore tactic, creating open space for Voss to lead into.

But for much of the game we dominated territory, had the ball in our F50 most of the time yet did not capitalise. This was due to lack of composure and poor decision making - nothing to do with Dean etc.

By 3/4 time, had we played with more skill in our I50 entries,we would have been much further up on the scoreboard.
Let's not forget that Freo managed to navigate through our team d and transition away to score, the last time this happened was a loss against the cats.

I put this 'weakened' team d down to having so many best 23 out.

Fly and the FD won't admit it publicly but the mantra of our 'system' as invincible is false - right now.

There's no known universe where the panel wouldn't rather avoiding the 'managing' and have best personnel in to apply this shining armour 'system'

WHEN! We have the preferred personnel available, make no mistake, we'll be the terminator again. I think the timing of our current lul couldn't be better. If anyone here thinks we're stuck in this form rut for the rest of the season then think again. Such is the belief and culture around the joint.

All the naysayers just need to relax, we're in good shape.

Yes, we are. Hence why despite the injuries and management we've only lost by a goal or less to 3 very good sides.

Some players and indeed multiple players missing from a specific zone, such as defence can be more difficult to cover. Howe & Frampton as a perfect example.

I'm not worried at all, btw.

So anti-Collingwood under Fly. When we got 20 up i relaxed and thought we'd actually do it comfortably
4 goals is a dangerous lead these days. The loser switches to all out attack, then gets the momentum which is hard to stop. We had nothing go right for us in the last 5 minutes, but you make your own luck.

Managing players is code for “we can take a loss here”
**** I hope there’s method to the madness.

Yes, we need to have all the troops back for the Lions, Hawks, Crows games.

No panic, we'll get it done when needed. Look at the Suns this week. Flat as a pancake because they played their Granny against us.

Freo won't get within 6 goals of us in a final.

The common denominator in our last three losses, all under a goal, have been terrible kicking by us and umpiring that clearly favoured our opponents. With an ounce of luck we could easily have been undefeated since round 0.Oh well, time to get back up and win next week.Hopefully we get most of our players back in the next two weeks.

I don't think it's mentally weak, but I do think we, like a few other teams, haven't learnt the lesson from the last couple of years - you've got to try to score and can't just go into defensive mode - as when teams charge at you and you're just playing safe, they're going to score and you're not. It worked for us in 2023, but teams hadn't drilled a full on attack mode then - they have now.
Only that we didn't go into defensive mode.

Correct decision. A couple of knobs at work today were fired up over it and told me i have too much Collingwood bias when i said there was nothing to see there.
Ask them tomorrow what they think about the May incident. Or the Darcy incident the other week on Butts causing a collapsed lung.

As far as I'm aware, Treacy wasn't injured from Moore falling to his knees.

Rubbish those who deem it as " their granny " against us. Suns are a good team at home just like Adelaide are and any decent side for the year are. Crows stepped it up last week too. I could never envision them dropping their game against the Suns.

Wanted to post when the dust settled and had time to sift through the wreckage, we just lack mental energy, we seem to have peaked mentally during our win against hawthorn.

It feels like all the games against the crap teams after hawthorn has somehow put collingwood into a trance , that hunger to win contests and willingness to execute with surgical like precision has disappeared.

We do have a legitimate excuse in not having two key defenders against the tallest fwd line in the competition, but I have seen us compete harder with bad odds.

We need to wipe the slate clean and restart the engine , and that starts with effort .

Is it just me or does it look like sidebottom suddenly lost a step? His presence and effectiveness around contest seems to have dropped.
He has. Has not shown the form he had earlier in the year. Maybe his age is catching up

Do you really think there was no effort yesterday?

Execution going forward was off and then defensive 50 was undermanned, but we had a pressure rating of over 200 for the whole game. I don’t think we can fault the effort or intensity.

Just as we can take some comfort in the fact we only lost the last 2 games by a combined 7pts, with games against Brisbane, Hawthorn and Adelaide to come what if they produced 3 more narrow defeats?

Not that hard to imagine is it and I doubt we'll be so forgiving once real ramifications in terms of ladder position are felt.

That string of 3 games would be worthy of a qualifying, preliminary and grand final this year, let alone games to simply decide your finishing position within the top 8.

After 2 losses in a row, the stakes are suddenly huge, and we could easily see ourselves slipping out of the top two, facing an away qualifying final, and potentially an away preliminary final, to just make a GF.

Just as I was worried the game against Gold Coast projected as a loss (same goes for Adelaide), I long thought beating Fremantle was a near certainty, I just don't rate them away from home, and the loss yesterday was a golden opportunity blown in the end.

We should have beaten them, all the metrics point to that, but as a result of not doing so, we now have precious little wiggle for more "honourable" losses.
