Who from this list genuinely impresses you?

This is a thread title 'are West coast the worst team since Fitzroy?'
All of them, hence why I named them.

Who from that list hasn’t impressed you and why?

Gross had 17 and a goal in his first game vs GWS, Dewar had 20 & 3 vs the reigning premiership, Jack Williams has had a good year as a young key forward in a poor side, and all the rest have more than proven themselves at afl level.

You can usually tell the worst teams from their dire percentage. West Coast’s 63 is pretty poor, but compare with:

Gold Coast 2011, 56
GWS 2012, 46
GWS 2013, 51
Melbourne 2013, 54
Gold Coast 2018, 59
Carlton 2018, 59
West Coast 2022, 59
North Melbourne 2022, 55
West Coast 2023, 53

West Coast this year have been somewhat competitive. They have only one win, but there were two 2-point losses, and they were competitive against Geelong, Brisbane and Collingwood.

Why did West Coast not have pick 2 in the 2022 draft after finishing 17th obviously there was a trade that year or the year before but they missed out on a few elite prospects and I don't see anything elite about Ginbey.

Geelong still belted them. Brisbane and Pies didn't really care tbh. The result is a forgone conclusion he certainly the mindset wasn't there. Percentage is irrelevant they've still won one game and the two close losses were against poor teams.

Last week speaks for itself. They got walloped at home to another team rebuilding.

Traded pick 2 and rioli for ginbey and hewett, scared of go home factor I guess

Got you. Hewett seems like a good type. Less sure about Ginbey.

Ginbey will be a good player - he's a third tall/flanker but he'll be a career player. Has had a good season, something many of his team-mates haven't.

Hewett is a goer but has struggled to stay on the park.

Still, most WCE folk don't lose sleep over this one.

Cool, I obviously defer to West Coast fans.

Pick 2 was 3 anyway because Will Ashcroft went at 2 for magic beans.

So it's a choice of one of Sheezel, Wardlaw, Tstatas, Humphrey, Mackenzie, Clark or both Ginbey and Hewett. Of all the poor decisions we have made this isn't one of them.

WC were shitcanned for splitting pick 3 then shitcanned for not splitting pick 1 the following year.

Reid- Proven himself at the level consistency and professionalism is the concern.
Hewett- Body has let him down to date. Ball use is average.
Maric- Hes super athletic. Poor skills. What's his best position?
Ginbey- Same as Maric. Probably has a higher ceiling. Is he a failed mid that can only be HBF?
Hough- Doesn't seem to have AFL athleticism. Average player.
J.Williams- Looks bang average
Dewar- Consistency?
Gross- Not seen enough to have an opinion.

All you’re doing is proving you don’t watch them.

Maric - Technically a very good kick, gets lazy/overconfident at times. Certainly doesn’t have poor skills.
Ginbey - Hasn’t even been playing as a HBF, plays as a third tall/KPD (on Curnow types). If he stays as a defender he’ll be a very very good one.
Hough - Ran a sub 3 second 20m, 71cm standing vertical, athleticism certainly not a problem.
J.Williams - averaging 1.2 goals as a young key forward in the worst team, if he stagnates he becomes a role player in a good side.
Dewar - Agree but this is common for young outside players in poor teams.
Gross - First smart thing you’ve said, it’s applicable to all of them for yourself though.

I obviously won't watch them as close as you would but that doesn't make my opinion less than yours.

I think if you're relying on these players above lifting you off the bottom of the ladder you'll be waiting along time.

I hope you're right and they are as good as they say you are. WC are too big of a club to be sitting on the bottom of the ladder for this long.

It does make your opinion less than mine when you state objectively wrong things.

The answer is yes, they are the worst team since Fitzroy 1996. Fitzroy were bad for 3 seasons, 94 - 96 and it would have been really hard to put in during the last part with the club folding.

Games 66 Wins - 8 Losses - 58 Win % = 12.12%

Current WC team for the past 4 seasons

Games 86 Wins - 11 Losses - 75 Win % = 12.79%

If they don't win a game for the rest of the year they go past them and their record is worse for longer.

Eagles have North to play still? Might be their one chance.
