Keep Darcy and Naughty forward.

Could we bring Buku in to cover down back when Lobb rotates into the ruck?
Given JoD and Buss should play almost full game time and GWS likely on play 2 talls and Stringer forward I'd rather play with the two talls down back whilst Lobb rucks.
I 100% agree Darcy and Naughton need to stay forward, ideally with Darcy deep for most of the game.

As long as we play Buss/Jones + JOD it should always work
That’s also why I want Sellwood in.

If Lobb is in the ruck, I think Sellwood is a much better option to play that third tall role than Cleary.

Sellwood can compete in the air better and just has a bigger frame. Clearly is better off half back and playing on a medium/smaller forward.

Having Lobb in the ruck instead of Darcy makes a ton of sense.

Not sure how Sellwood has basically become the reincarnation of Dale Morris after a few reserves games lol.

Not saying he is not a good player, but we're more likely to bring back Davidson, Buku, or even Anthony Scott this week.

Considering Sellwood has never played senior football, I feel that some may be ‘overly positive’ to what Sellwood can bring us at this stage of the season.

It is starting to head in the Matthew Panos direction circa 2014.

Saying I’d prefer him as a third tall than Cleary because he can compete in the air and has a bigger frame isn’t really overselling him I think.

They’re more intangible skills than any promise of good performance.

Cleary played great on Kako but can struggle matched up on bigger forwards.

Giants have Riccardi, Brown and Stringer who are all in that medium forward build

Anyway, he’s not going to get picked but I’d like to see it in action in the 1s

Our back 3 KPD's on the weekend had less than 50 games as defenders.
If we are serious about the 8 position....again, if Ljones is fit we need his experience. We are 1-9 vs the top 8 teams 🤢
Its not just the 1on1's, but his experienced voice down back, to set up the zone.

It's also a bit rich throwing him automatically into the AFL team, when others have done preseason and been in and out for the year. If he automatically got in, we'd be in very dire straits

It's the BF way.
Any recruit or untried player is a shiny new toy and has to be better than whoever is playing that role now. This overhyping elevates expectations to an unrealistic level and has the effect of turning developing prospects into whipping boys in a very short time.

Best to ignore.

FWIW I'm happy for Sellwood to come in if MC think he's ready.

We are being a bit disingenuous with Sellwood here,

His last 3 VFL games he is averaging 9.6 intercept possessions a game (most for the game in 2/3) averaged 24.6 touches in these games with 8.6 marks in them and going at 79% DE,

He is the most in form player in the 2s and is deserving of a call up

I don’t think that’s necessarily true.

No one was calling for Rypstra to come in last year when we desperately needed a small forward. No one’s asking for Walker to come in.

People are excited about Sellwood because he genuinely shows AFL traits and has been performing in the VFL.

He plays a position that has been constantly changing for us in the AFL and it’s not unrealistic to think he could be better than other options.

Your post really took me back to circa 2009 when we needed a tall forward and this board hyped Tim Boyle to the moon.

No one is calling for a Walker inclusion. . . Yet.

You could have said that about Sam Davidson and what a revelation he has been, exactly what we needed.

From what I've seen Sellwood fills a need that we are currently missing so there is every chance if his form continues, he gets a chance.

Poulter played well in the second half but don't think he is afforded that sort of space against the giants.
Our fringe forwards played their role - Poulter went really high in the second half to provide an option out of defence, and McNeill had 20+ pressure acts so played his role fine.

Most importantly, Naughts and Darcy were hot so McNeill & Poulter stayed out of their bloody way.

You've never experienced blind desperate hope until you've seen pages upon pages of praise for Adam Morgan's 0 possession game because "he kept competing".

Poulters second half was much better then his first. Im not sure if the shift to lead further up the field was a coach instruction at that time but he should've been playing that role all night.

On a night where defence wasn't overly important or applied i thought McNeil was a standout in that regard.

Yes it's certainly a generalisation.
My point is really that BF has a natural lean toward the hyperbolic. Even among some of the more balanced contributors. It's the nature of the medium, and besides we're all passionate supporters.

We (ie a good number of people on BF, but by no means everyone) tend to yearn for the next great hope. That often leads us to unrealistic expectations. When those high expectations are not met we are often unreasonable critics as well.

That said, Sellwood does look a prospect. So when MC thinks he's ready, I'll be keen to see how he goes and will be watching his progress closely.
