He puts pressure on the rest of the defence. If we replaced Moore with Howe tonight but still had Dean, there is no guarantee that we would have won.

I will keep saying it- Charlie is not good enough at the highest level. I understand injuries have left us with no choice but please, let's not pretend he is even a handy back up when our other talls are absent.

Spot on. I think that too. Our other defender are too worried covering for Dean that it means they are struggling with their primary role.

comes to mind as a more recent one. But this guy is on the podium and so far off an AFL standard it's actually amazing. What's worse is the list manager drafting a small in de Mattia when key stocks was clearly our need.

The fact is it's a team game, and your strengths are revealed or suppressed according to your teammates games. Dean is a fine role player, about Billy Frampton's level.

It’s a backline unit. When Dean went off, McStay went back. It was no better.

Without Howe, Moore does too much trying to cover two players and it exposes the whole backline.

I would like to see Dean more aggressive. He will struggle against Hawks and Crows forwards though.

He’s not tall enough tojust play on the big guys. He doesn’t have great closing speed to catch up when they lead. He doesn’t have a great leap to punch the ball.

It’s actually not fair to play him on a KPP.

I’d love to know the selection committees thoughts on Dean. We’ve known he’s too small to be an AFL kpd for years and they just keep putting him there and he keeps struggling. Bizarre.

Not only is he to small for a key defender but he also can’t jump, falls over on most occasions and can’t read the flight of a football.

If Charlie Dean was an athletic 200cm like Frampton he’d be a lock in the best side. Unfortunately he’s a tad too slow, too weak, too small and too fumbly to play his best role at AFL level. Will have a great VFL career.

Charlie has only played 11 games of footy - pumping games and lessons and experience into him ahead of finals while others are less than cherry ripe is absolutely the least worst thing we could be doing.

I never said we can't play him. I said let's end the pretense that he is good enough to play that role to the level required. He's clearly a better option than playing one man down.

There are some who seemed to be suggesting he is developing into a decent depth player. Many said they'd seen improvement in him. I haven't. He has neat skills when in possession of the pill. That's it.

Might be safer to forfeit. Imagine dean on a player like Cameron or hogan.
