YeahParker?
We signed him as a Cat B Rookie, as he wouldn't have played football for at least 3 years. The NGA doesn't come into it. I certainly hope they are planning on keeping him on our books, as he's coming along nicely.Yeah
Do we still have bargaining power? We signed him as a Cat B Rookie, as he wouldn't have played football for at least 3 years. The NGA doesn't come into it. I certainly hope they are planning on keeping him on our books, as he's coming along nicely.
Well he's on our list, so we have "full rights" to him, just like we have for any other player on the list. It looks like he might be out of contract at the end of this season, but we just need to sign him up again. We can leave him on the Cat B list for a while as well, there's no need for us to move him to the Primary List yet. The only worry is that other clubs may well be sniffing around, trying to poach him from us by offering him a much better deal and a spot on their main list.Do we still have bargaining power?
Do we still have bargaining power?
If he's contracted we do. If not he's an uncontracted player. The advantage we'd have for re-signing him for next year though is that Cat B salary isn't part of the salary cap, so it'd be harder to outbid us in terms of salary - it'd only be contract length and opportunity that might see him look around. We'd be able to offer more salary than other clubs.Do we still have bargaining power?

He should not care one bit about being a Cat B. If anything, it makes it easier to ask for a bit more money.Well he's on our list, so we have "full rights" to him, just like we have for any other player on the list. Okay, that sounds good!:Signed until end of next year, hit a trigger for extra year.
We just elevate him to the Primary List when we want/need to. Same as any Rookie List player we want to keep. We're at no risk of losing him, as long as he wants to stay.So what happens when Wil comes out of his contract, does he have to go into the draft or can we just elevate him to our AFL list if we have the room.
Will he be a free agent?
How can he not get a Game ahead of Markov?
How can he not get a Game ahead of Markov?
Fair question TD. Which I think was answered today.
That Markov is not up to it at AFL Level and is a Turnover Machine
Agree, Wil has a pretty high ceiling and he's able to play a significantly broader role in the VFL and that allows him greater opportunity to develop. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the side at finals time.We all love Leggy - but he had a shocker today.
I’m a Parker fan - he’s the future. He may not have Leggy’s speed, but he has poise and smarts. Still adjusting to what it takes to be an AFL player, but the club are developing him nicely. No rush - even though we’re feeling desperate after today - the club know what they’re doing.
Too bad he won’t play because we have to fit Houston into the team for the next 6 yearsWil Parker played one of his best games yet, at the top level and in a finals like game against a top of the ladder side.
Brilliant efforts to intercept the ball and demonstrated composure in important defensive moments. Very excited to have this player on our list, he's absolutely earned a contract extension if he didn't have one already. He will be a fast and smart defender moving forward.
Let's put in some appreciation for this kid
He played tonight with Houston in the team.Too bad he won’t play because we have to fit Houston into the team for the next 6 years
Good way to stink up a positive post about a young player. We can praise our young up and comers without shitting on other players at the same time. So unnecessaryToo bad he won’t play because we have to fit Houston into the team for the next 6 years
