Great news. Nothing worse than a disloyal mercenary. Finally some good news for the Saints.

Now Nas, can you speak with a little more enthusiasm next time? You were sending terrible vibes in that post match.
I'd argue he's played St.Kilda wonderfully. He knows he is worth some coin, he ain't worth $2m but show a little willingness to leave and suddenly you go from a 1.2m paycheck to 2m.

St.Kilda aren't giving him $2m if he signed at the start of the year and had showed desire to stay.

It was a line in the sand moment for them though. If they lost him it would have been bleak so they came up with a package and he is staying and with that, others might now follow suit and sign on longer term etc. Its club defining for them right now.

It's good he stayed.

More that it took such a huge amount of money for him to do so seems crazy.

I think he really really really would ideally like to be living in Adelaide (is a quiet/shy guy, no gf, possibly no friends or family outside the club over here), but he probably knew it would be super-hard to get a trade done, and he probably also didn’t want to leave us in the lurch and also set our rebuild back, so he’s been willing to compromise for a big payday.

Maybe he’ll now move his family over here!

Good result for footy. Happy for the Saints. Would have been pretty rough if they lost him, but by the same token if he got some ridiculously high payed 7 year deal or similar I think that would have been bad for the game too.

Getting some serious coin, as deserved. If he wants a longer better deal then keep the performances up for two years.

At the start of the year Nas was a gun back flanker, now he's a gun midfielder.
They're different payscales.
He's played St Kilda beautifully by becoming a more valuable player.

I would have thought that 1.8 a year even, so that he's the highest player on your roster would be enough.

Any savings with huge contracts like that can be beneficial moving forward.

Well it was the very next post after yours so I’d say absolutely.
He isn't shit, no one is going to say that. He also isn't worth $2m.

This reminds me a lot of recent NBA contracts. Sometimes it's just about timing/fit/market. Saints knew they couldn't afford to lose him but he had genuine interest elsewhere. NWM has used that interest to increase his paycheck massively, kudos to him.

NWM & TDK will be eating up 3.8m of the salary cap for 2 players, how do you build a list good enough to win a flag around these guys?

Absolutely a key factor, his own performances has warranted a pay jump. Big reason why players don't always sign on straight away. Nas played this whole situation perfectly.

If he signed an extension at the beginning of the year, it's easily under a million. Play some great football, now you're around that $1m mark. Feign interest in a return home, play even BETTER football? Hello $2m payday.

Superb work from him, now up to the Saints to figure out how to build out their list around him ASAP.

NWM will be gone in 2 years, I reckon we’ve just got to enjoy him while we can.
