Apologies if there's been a thread on him already.

Seems polarised. People I know in person love his shows but the internet seem to largely shit over them. His shows have strong ratings on iMDB (Landman 8.2, 1923 8.3, 1883 8.7 etc.) A lot of discource online is that he loves himself too much.

Having only watched Landman and Yellowstone I was wondering what the consensus is on this guy?

Really, really enjoyed Landman and I'd almost put it in front of Yellowstone but both were fairly good, if not great.

Some of his other shows seem like they'd be worth checking out. Lioness looks interesting.

Anyway he’s inconsistent with one big fat ego. Good luck to him

I've only watched Landman so can only base my opinion off that..
Seems to be a very blokey, masculine type of writer (the female characters in Landman were token, laughable caricatures imo..).
Landman was ok but only watchable for me because of Billy Bob and Jon Hamm, they were superb in it.

Yep, same in Mayor of Kingstown. Really enjoyable show but the blokes definitely ruled the roost.

He squared the ledger a fair bit more in 1883 and 1923 though - the female characters in them were great, and probably more empowered than the fellas tbh. In 1923 they certainly had most of the best lines.

I’ll give those a watch, cheers.

I don’t think he’s the type who the culture writers overly gravitate towards - his stuff is a bit more conservative, very straight white male dominant, and usually a bit older also. It’s not my cup of tea but he certainly seems to know how to deliver for his target demographic.

He has also done Lioness, the main title character definitely not token in that.
