Toast Round 24 = Collingwood 82-76 Melbourne

Credit to Melbourne. They were very good and had a crack. Some of their players played there best games for a while. I feel the last two weeks have given us some positive energy. The bye will be a great freshen up. Degoey is ready for finals. Naicos needs the rest. Frampton is back. Cameron, Mihocek and Sidebottom all need the rest. Houston on the wing dropping back into defence is good.

The two weeks allows a reset. Brilliant to have another crack at Adelaide after losing the winnable last week. Game on.

Or if we get Geelong, we will want to get them back for that close loss. I am still hoping Geelong will be vulnerable after soft games.

We qualified with a double chance. Three games to go.

Love the Pies.

We have gone from being annoyed we put in an underwhelming performance to being bloody grateful we gave a performance that had enough will to win to get the 4pts.

Imagine if we had of lost with Port doing what they just did.

That would have been soul crushing but now on the one night the last 6 weeks has largely been undone and our Premiership chances have been greatly enhanced.

A lot of improvement still required but we can now spend the coming days and week rejoicing in the fact this was a horrible night for all the Collingwood haters out there.

Suck it bitches.

WE ARE COLLINGWOOD!

Wow what a relief, Been a while since spirits have been this high. Obviously another rusty performance + Howe being out, but sealing the top 4 is absolutely massive. We’re not gonna be favourites based on our form, but finals is a completely different gravy.

Lets hope we somehow reload and recapture our form earlier on the year, not gonna be easy whatsoever but pumped to see how we do.

Yes - but what’s the answer to my question ? I couldn’t watch the game.

I’d be surprised if McStay and Lipinski survive that performance

Both were really really poor. At crucial moments too

the amount of times we bombed it to Billy with May on him drove me spare!
That, and also kicking to a contest with Gawn there. Do they never learn? See where Gawn is and kick it to the other side, anywhere but.

Just watched the highlights- kicked 4 in the Last Qtr, after being down by 3 and looking down the barrel is the type of grit, that we’re known for - you don’t win that one without our defiant and steadfast resilience.
Top 4 with Adel holding no fears - hang on for the ride.

Snowflakes chance of staying 4th
5th would have been better with a home game, but looks like we are set for top 4 now.

We have some players horribly out of form, and we are yet to regain our early season intensity…this is impacting our contested ball and clearance work where we were soundly beaten again. Barely won the tackle count as well.

McStay has been out of sorts, not sure if we have to just play him at FF and not mess about with ruck duties.

Pleasingly tonight Frampton player a really good game, that’s going to be even more important with Howe gone. Same with Degoey, means a young Long won’t need to carry the load. Ideally they would have some more time to build chemistry.

Does Parker come in for Howe?

No SPIN in that.

I thought Lipinski was ok. McStay is well off, I think probably needs to be played out of the goal square…we’ve been throwing him back and in the ruck.

Only watched the last quarter. Lipinski can't tackle. It might be his reconstructed shoulder causing him grief, but they can't field a finals side with players unable to bring their opponent down.

That, and also kicking to a contest with Gawn there. Do they never learn? See where Gawn is and kick it to the other side, anywhere but.

Gawn seems to live rent-free in their head; it's frustrating. I suspect the players are focusing on Gawn instead of kicking to their teammates' advantage. (Got that from rider training: keep your eyes on the road, not the obstacle you want to avoid).

It was still unimpressive, boring football. Fly still hasn't solved the problems. This game style will not threaten any of the other top 8 sides.

Much work to do for Fly over the next fortnight to get it right.

It might require some tough decisions over seemingly "favourite" players
Having to fight back late just to squeeze past the 14th placed team in the AFL isn't warming my mug of cocoa.

Well done NoSpin.
Top Post.
GC losing to PA is another example of how unpredictable and tight this season is.

I was one who thought that we should have won by 10 goals against Melbourne if we were true contendors.

But this season obeys no normal probabilistic rules.

Wins are gold, whoever you are playing.

Go pies.

Results falling our way are making me feel happy.

Degoey finally played like Degoey tonight. He was so creative by hand and foot. Shoota is all heart and soul but boy- he can't kick over a jam tin. My boy Billy Frampton was outstanding again tonight. Surely Coxy has to come into the side. How many times must we watch the Triple Ms fail to touch the ball or win a marking contest? It's not just about connection. It's a lack of strength and height when a one on one contest is required.

I think Eddie nailed it. Our forward line is vanilla. Look at our average score the last 6 or 7 weeks. Bite the bullet and either play Cox and keep the triple M's and rotate them with Cox taking second ruck duties. Thats was another area where McStay got badly beaten. Come on, Fly. There's faith in a player and then there is sheer stubbornness.

Great Fightback in last Qtr to get the Win

but

For most of the Game we where terrible

Keep playing This crap Backwards and Sideways and bombing it to our Forwards

We looks a Slow Team

My 2 Postives are De Goey showing some of his Top Form and I like what Steene did when he got on. Used the ball very well and best kicks to Forwards for awhile

I will take the win.... of course. However.

1. We just got over the 14th team on the ladder by 6 points.
2. We had more incentive to play for, A top 4 position. Melbourne didn't.
3. We played boundary line football, slow and predictable against a bottom 6 team.
4. We got opened up in the corridoor all game except for the last 15 minutes when we decided to play direct football.
5. We had a premiership coach v's a care taker coach.
6. Again we take set shots from the boundary lines, while opposition teams, Melbourne tonight, take their shots in front of goals.
7. Finally, Melbourne kicked 7 goals to 2 from stoppages.

We really need to lift for that first final.

Torn between that was an awful performance overall and the positivity of the finish. Does the forward line functioning at the end (strangely because of fast ball movement) give us a spark? Does McStay clunking that mark and kicking straight give him the confidence to be the man he was in 2023? Do the handful of moments from JDG that showcased the beast he is meant to be he can be the finals beast he has so often proven to be?

Head says we are miles away. Heart says we can do anything.

And I am now convinced that SP10 is the greatest pie in my 50 odd years of support. Ridiculous he is still deciding the outcome of games at his age.

The issue is with our mids. So many panicked kicks.
I think finals footy will suit our game plan though.

No way Cox comes in, we would be even worse with him as a forward.
