Rankines life is turned upside down and possibly missing out on a once in a lifetime opportunity when an apology and a 1 week penalty for a first offence would have been plenty. Being offended is a choice.

Some people miss out on their entire lives, Rankine is just missing a few more games, getting paid $100k this month, and just came back from Italy.

You're right, being offended is a choice, and you posted 100x times about the same thing, you're offended by Rankine receiving a four week suspension, not once have you shown any compassion for LGBTQI people.

It's too simplistic to look at it as the number of games of missed. None of the players sanctioned for this 'misdemeanour' have missed finals and potentially the granny so in that sense Rankine's punishment has been much more severe and disproportionate to what's come before.

I'd equate regular games as follows:

Elimination/Qualifying/Semi Finals to be worth 2 regular games.

Prelim: 3 regular games.

Granny: Unquantifiable for something like this, utterly devastating for something non footy related. Should only be reserved for thuggish acts worthy of multiple games suspension.

So a standard ban for a naughty word which is 5 regular games equates to Elim/Qual + Semi = 2 + 2 and 1 regular game served next season = 5 regular games. So on and so forth.

If Adelaide win their Qualifying Final you might as well have banned Rankine for 10 regular games. That's why I don't get all this hullabaloo about the reduction of 1 measly game; the guy has been put in a position where he probably is wishing Adelaide lose their first final so that he can return to experience what his teammates will if they make it to the granny and there's absolutely no guarantee that he will ever get another chance to do so. And that I'm sure is something that he would be feeling awful about.

Never-the-less I can understand a kid between the ages of 10 and 15 not having the mental fortitude and maturity to deal with that stupidity but a fully grown adult? Are you kidding me? With Rankine being a prime example of this.

I've heard plenty of vitriol and bigotry directed at religious people from homosexuals so they're not above dishing it out too. And the excuse that you choose religion doesn't wash, as religion is considered cultural by those that follow it and for most of them something that is innate to them and their culture. Yet lefties and their allies constantly hang crap on religious folk with the most vile insults I've ever heard.

A four-week suspension in the context of the timing in the season is one of the most extreme penalties I have ever seen for any offence. You can clearly see who has actually played the game vs the self-righteous sheep coming out saying 5, 6, 7, 8 games etc.

The lad is missing finals on his first opportunity having spent his career thus far at struggling clubs, surely it is understood how precious that is. If you do not recognise that he has been punished severely enough, you are just sinking in the boots to signal your virtuosity.

I’m well and truely educated. I haven’t said that word since I was in primary school as a 8 year old . But I also wouldn’t hang someone and ruin a big part of their life for using it.

Rankin deserved a punishment no doubt and most importantly education on why it’s so hurtful. But taking something away he has worked towards his entire life for a single word is just nonsense.

An AFLW player refused to wear a pride jumper and that’s completely fine because her religion says gay people are bad. Complete double standard
