Yeah it’s a bit odd that the public don’t know yet this time round (club would know in order to organise their training schedule). In 2023 we had to wait because I suspect there was discussion behind closed doors about GWS travelling 3 weeks in a row into a 6 day break. The only answer I have this year is that it’s so straightforward.
The last two Saturday prelims have been at 5:15pm

I disagree with that whole bit. TV rights money would be down without the subscription broadcasters - but not by the full amount they pay - as the FTA component would rise by a fair bit if they had all the games and no subscription competitor. The biggest downside is we'd all be stuck with no choice other than Kane-O.
The game has found itself in an interesting spot the past few rights negotiations. I think 9 are comfortable owning NRL so 7 and Fox have the monopoly which is leading to less access for some and potentially less $ without genuine competition.

There’ll always be a pay per view option, but I’m fearful of a time when Disney, Netflix, Prime, HBO Max etc become involved. A scenario where FTA has say one of Thursday or Friday night and Sunday arvo with the other 8 matches shared amongst 3 or 4 subscription services feels like it could be possible in order to grow the pie the next time round…

The only curveball might be Paramount through their ownership of Ten throwing serious money at it.

I've turned and am now in the Cox boat. However, it should be said that prior to his last game, he wasn't getting his hands to marking contests and bringing the ball to ground like he did against Adelaide. Do we trust him to back it up?, because when he's doing that he's probably more valuable than McStay in his current form
You've always been a Coxhead at heart.

Looking at the 14 day forecast - which is likely to change about 100 times prior to our game - the early forecast is:
  • Friday - Storms
  • Satursday - Morning drizzle, clearing

I don't recall the AFL ever announcing finals when only one opponent has been determined?

Rest assured, we are playing Saturday

Bro, I'm a fishermen and we know never to trust weather forecasts

I would do the opposite TBH.
Having Hill as sub and being able to inject his pace and skill into the game, as players tire, would be a point of difference.

The only caveat is that he would still need to be able to play out a whole game, in case of an early injury.
Having a player at your disposal, that has the ability to change a game with only a few moments of brilliance, could be the perfect sub.
The problem with making Bobby sub, IMO, is that he might only get 10 minutes of footy. I'd love to see him get three-quarters of a match, not just for our Prelim Final hopes but to also get him cherry ripe for the GF.

So far the AFL has been smart enough to keep a significant FTA presence. They're pretty long term thinking. For now, it's probably important for growth to maintain that FTA presence - although that'll change over time. Some of the other Aussie sporting comps have seen viewership and attendances decline probably due to maximising revenue with subscription only rights deals.

Anti-siphoning laws mean the AFL has to keep a significant FTA presence

End up playing Geelong? I was only referring to our line-up for the Prelim Final, against either Bris or GC.

I'd like to see Bobby get a decent amount of game time in the PF, before being subbed-off - provided we haven't already had to activate our sub to cover an injury. That should then set Bobby up well for the GF, if we get there.

More generally, assuming Hill and Howe do come back in for the PF and (hopefully) GF at the expense of Roan Steele and Parker, then who else other than Bobby and Lipinski are in contention for the sub role? I don't see any other candidates, other than perhaps Houston.

Yeah, I said if we "end up playing Geelong" (i.e. after the PF), we'll need runners and so Lipinski will likely play any GF but since that's true (I didn't say this but implied) he'll need to play the PF.

I'd love to see Bobby: just think he's likely to be the sub rather than play a full game -- in a PF and also GF.

It's not worth the argument. This site has access to the biggest sporting competitions in the world and as far as I know, not one of them has closed down as a result of siphoning. The AFL is a small drop in the puddle. If it wasn't for greed, all games would be free to air rather than having to pay for some betting sponsored AFL app. It's ok for people with gambling addiction to be dangled a dirty, life destroying carott but some people prefer to concentrate on self righteous gratification instead. I sleep very well at night

The only way you would get on my course was if you were on a mower.
Ouch, I said go have a round of golf because it's good for the soul. That comment sounds like someone with a tarnished soul. A mower, are you planning on shaving my back

He sure was. (I won’t detail the thread anymore 😂)
