Pretty weak from Chesser to be honest. First opportunity to get back to Victoria and he grabs it immediately. No thought at all for West Coast who helped him get through all his injury concerns.

That being said, West Coast losing Allen, Mcgovern, Chesser, Hunt, Sheed and Ryan in one hit means there will be significant turnover yet again.

I genuinely can't see them improving next year.

Improvement is winning like 3 games instead of 1. None of those names bar Ryan really count for their impact this year, plus, hopefully Waterman back. Wouldnt have thought they are out of bottom 2 though

Didn’t have an offer to stay until a few weeks ago. Carlton offering two. It’s probably fair to assume this was lined up a while ago and he was simply locking in his future as an AFL player.

Weak is rough.

West coast offered two as well.

Spent big on him in terms of draft capital, rehabbed him and will get next to nothing in return.

Its poor.

They offered a contract very late. He is obviously not a high priority over there despite the investment.

I would never begrudge a player for locking in their future or heading home.

Not ideal for us as Chesser is more valuable on our list than in a trade. I can understand moving on as the last few years wouldn't have been pleasant with our record and his form and injuries.

It's not uncommon for players that have battled injury for so long to look for a change.

West coast also only put a contract offer on the table very late. They could have had one in front of him mid year when he wasn't playing and it might have swayed him.

They did that the last time.

Whilst injured and in rehab. He didn't have any offers to go home then.

So this is really his first opportunity to move.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't interest before he signed his first contract. I'd imagine there would have been more interest in an injury prone first round pick in their second year than an injury prone fourth year player.

The big difference here seems to be that West Coast didn't have an offer on the table this time round while he was injured and in rehab, instead they waited until the end of the year.
