This guy is about 25 years old I think.

They can live well beyond 50. He'll probably outlive me.
I have a sulphur crested cockatoo, they can live over 100 in captivity. I haven't left specific intructions in my will but I've just told people to donate her to an animal place like a wildlife park.

As you would know it is getting into spring and these parrots get VERY needy during breeding season.

I've got a photo that someone took for me when I was in Brazil many years ago of a massive macaw perched on my arm. Even though it's talons were big and sharp, the bird was quite gentle with its grip. It didn't have a go at me thank god as I reckon it could have done a bit of damage. It was quite galah-looking except waaaay bigger - a truly magnificent creature.
A Norwegian Blue?

I've got sulphur crested, Eastern Rosella's, galahs, Black Coclatoos, King Parrots, Crimson Rosella's , Gang Gangs, Superb Parrots and even a Swift... but they all fly around free on my property. Right now there's a lot of grass seed feeding going on.

there’s a number of grass parrots that hang around my office when it’s sunny. very beautiful, very tame too.

I love Gang Gangs. Was going to get a couple but didn't for whatever reason. I get the black cockatoos, galahs, corellas, 28's and whatever else flying around. Also get bandicoots that come along mopping up the leftover bird seed.

On a sad note a bloody fox or something got to my Mum's laying hens. It/them didn't even really eat them. Just killed them while leaving one out the front with a missing head. They really had to dig deep to get under the fence. Bastards.

****ing foxes. Last year saw the great chook massacre at my place. A tree limb fell on the big chook pen, I didn't fix it properly, foxes got in. 35 chooks, 3 roosters, 1 peacock (Fly in Peace Boris ). I've only managed to shoot 1 fox, bastards are still out there.

I thought foxes weren't going to be that big of a problem as the area is now quite built up.

Mum likes to rescue hens from those disgusting battery hen cages. There is always a wait though.

It's sad that it takes so long for them to learn their natural instincts to roost and eat scraps.

I thought of maybe adding a couple of roosters for protection but from what you say it sounds pointless.

Man that's awful Din Dins.

I would happily contribute financially (whatever I can) to help replace your livestock if needed.

I do hope you try not be too critical/negative on yourself for what happen, it was plain rotten luck and very unfortunate circumstances

Take care Big Guy

My nearest neighbour is 1km away.
Interesting as mine is like 50m away but a big property. There hasn't been a fox problem for quite a while so I wonder if it was something else. They did dig pretty deep.

I forgot to mention after the fox incident my uncle who lives 500km away has a neighbour that goes after them to protect his livestock.

He goes full cammo mode with night vision, scope, cammo outfit, the lot.

He's up in the early hours just waiting for them.

Creatures of the night, I can't say I have ever seen one.

Damn foxes.

No it's just something that happened.

The new-chook yard is its original 800sqm but now has a 2m high fully caged fence and roof. I then dug a 50cm trench all the way round and cemented it in. It's the Chook Mahal.

Sounds more like Stalag Luft 😮

Are you keeping the foxes out or the chooks in

You brute 😢
10 chooks, tonnes of space, and they get lef out into a paddock every few days, couldn't get more free range!

I've seen foxes around the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Sly little pricks!
yeah same, they’ve left a few dead cats around the neighbourhood this year

Great to know you are feeling better champ
