Also I know this sounds like a hindsight 20/20 thing but the 5 teams left in it very clearly have the 5 best coaches in the game IMO. Even before this season’s outcomes I would have had 1. C Scott 2. Fly 3. Mitchell 4. Fagan easily. Hardwick obviously has the resume and shown adaptability now at GC and done an excellent job in terms of buy-in and guiding recruitment.
Msybe a little early to make the call on Mitchell . Still not n his honeymoon period. The other four name themselves of course but others like Kingsley have claims

It's been so close between all finalists throughout the year, that even Hawthorn winning the premiership from 8th :)sick::sick::sick::sick:) wouldn't be all that much of a shock.
Well, until the last 6 weeks. Before that there was one team with a bit of a gap on the rest.

Agree it's even at this point. Crows finished top but have turned out to be the worst team in it.

,

We likely won't agree on this one Savvy.

In my view, the way he answered that question was ordinary because he missed an opportunity to set the tone. One man's cliche answer is another man's principled response.
He would have been far better off acknowledging that, whilst Rankine is a good player, his team was completely outplayed.
To me, there was a little bit of sour grapes about it, rather than commenting on how well Hawthorn played.
You'll never see Fly responding in such a way.

Appreciate your research- but you do understand that is just an irrelevant piece of history.
And I hope you’re not expecting us to give it any credibility, in respect to predicting our future performance.
I am not after credit, just appreciate the post for what it is. I would rather be 100% wrong in 2025 and have everyone on the pies forum have a go at me for that post, if it means we are premiers in 2025.

Since 1955, the pies have playing in 19GF same amount as the Hawthorn, We have won 4 and lost 15.
WHY? Collingwood does not kick a score in the second half of Grand Finals, when it counts. Teams are always in with a chance.
5 of those losses were 10 points and under. Let that sink in.
In 2023, we only kick 3 goals (3.9) in the second half (Yes we missed a lot of shots), In 1990 4 goals (4.2).

We average just over 1 goal in the last quarter of Grand Finals, Yes there are a few exceptions in that stat, but the reason we keep losing is we do not kick a score, In fact we have had 3 GF were we failed to kick a goal in the last, 2011, 1981, 1958 and 6 times were we have only kicked 1 goal in the last quarter of a GF, 2002,1977, 1970, 1960, 1956 & 1955

Pies supporters might say, hey but that was over 50 years ago, let me ask you all this question, Why does history keep repeating itself for this club.
On the other hand the Hawks have won the majority of thier GF's because they have kicked a winning score in the second half of GF's.
Our winning GF percentage is 37.78% only better than St.kilda's with 18.75% (1 win in 8 GF appearances)

If we make it in 2025 and likely play the Cats, We can't have 2-4 goal second halves in the GF and expect to win.

GO PIES.
2002 we only kicked one goal in the last quarter
2003 we were blown out
2010 1.0 we were goalless in the third quarter aka the premiership quarter
2011 we were goalless in the last quarter
2018 we only managed one goal in the 2nd quarter despite a 5-goal head start

Personally I rate adaptability / flexibility as one of the highest things a coach can do. When a player is down, patch of form etc. Kingsley has one trick and it it works well if it’s on, but not sure about any Plan Bs. Mitchell since our demolition of them half way through the year has shown some good tweaks to their system. In fact I don’t see them as playing what was called ‘hokball’ last year.

So what do we want tonight - lots of full-on, jarring body slamming bumps, bone crunching vicious tackles designed to hurt, maybe a full on fight with haymakers ... that find their targets. May the game be close to the end, with players run off their feet (literally), and pushed to the edge of exhaustion - and beyond.

More to the point, lets hope that, in a cliffhanger, the better team on the night - whoever it may be - ...

... somehow find a way to lose.

It's probably already been said but surely the much feared Adelaide power stance could've been worth a try at half time
It couldn't have made things much worse.

Think Sam Mitchell had a word with Ginni about celebrations.
Saw a fairly tame ginivan last night, at least by his standards.
I doubt it, Sam seems to embrace their celebrations. He didn't kick a goal so he couldn't do a cele. Apparently been dealing with a hamstring issue all week & taken off as a precaution with that injury late in the game.
