It may well be wishful thinking but the only window we'll likely have is at the end of his initial contract which I believe runs until 2027. Based on what I saw today , his enthusiasm toward Collingwood has not waned despite being on the Blues list.

Like Zac McCarthy? Or Alex Condon? You don’t need to be 205cm in that role to be successful anyway. Of all the roles in modern football it is probably the least influential on the ground unless you have a unicorn like Darcy, Thilthorpe or Jackson. Cox has had a poor 2025 and he’s only going to get more exploitable in 2026. I personally wouldn’t re-contract him.

Cox only averaging 10 hit outs and barely scoring a goal does mean we should be looking for something better in 2026.

Also, with McStay not being selected for finals do we even have a starting forward/ruck on our list? For that matter, is McStay likely to remain himself? Unless there is some reason why he's not playing other than Cox being preferred, I'm not sure why he'd want to stay or why the club would want him. Maybe if Cox and Mihocek are moving on, and/or it's made clear he's not playing due to ruck duties and we'd plan to have someone else playing second ruck alongside him next year. Either way it's not a big endorsement. The only way I could see him happily continuing is if he's physically not up to it for some reason.

Yep agree completely. Cox is serving a purpose at the moment that may or may not pay off for us but he’s not the way forward for us so I wouldn’t give him a contract for next year either.

I’d prefer to take a punt now on a 24-26 year old state league ruck that might develop in a professional environment but at the very least could help out for 12 months if Steene is not ready.

They have to pay for a player they don't want.
I suspect King want's to clean out cap space to bring in players he wants but with May, Oliver, Trac, etc. still on the books they will be unable to do this.

I just love this....Can't see it eventuating but the fact we are so aggressive these days is exactly what we should of been doing way back.
Leppa and I reckon Ned is also heavily involved orchestrating a lot of positive moves to keep us at the top for the now and beyond.

It'll never happen but a fit and motivated Curnow would run riot with our ball movement. He won Colemans with spuds at Carlton delivering him the ball
