Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Why? CJ has a better disposal and kicking efficiency than Florent. He’s quicker and younger too.

I don’t understand the hate and criticism for CJ but the love for Florent.
I never criticised CJ - I would be happy to pursue him but I just prefer Florent as a player. CJ has an injury history. Florent doesn't. This is the main point, but I also think Florent is an immediate option as a running HB allowing Hollands to go back to the wing.

Disposal efficiency is not a very informative stat in my opinion. Doesn't take into account what types of kicks they are taking on and also long kicks to a pack are called effective.

Fair enough that’s your view. My whole issue is that’s it’s misleading that Florent is a good kick especially with the hate and criticism CJ is getting for his disposal when Florent is worse.

I can't speak for others but I don't think CJ is a bad kick. I think the criticism generally has more been about his decision making rather than his kicking.

CJ at his best is very handy, he has looked so shaky these last two years though.

I agree, he is better than Florent at his best.

Both would be good pickups, ideally we nab the two of them for run and carry if nothing else.

The last 2 players we’ve picked up from the Swans have turned out to be guns.
They were borderline best 22 at Swans as well.
I see no reason why Florent couldn’t reach the same level with us.
Smart player, quick, good disposal.
Auto upgrade on OH, Saad, Acres etc, imo

The Sydney factor is also big for me. Coached by John Longmire who for me was the best coach in the league for much of his time at the Swans. Got them playing great transition football and Florent was part of that.

It should be Ethan Phillips. Clearly our best defender and player at VFL level this season. Built to play on the modern day KPF. At 26yo he is ready to go.

If we lose him to another club like McMahon I’ll be disappointed.

Not sure if anyone can find this out but how many games have we won when both Charlie and Harry have played and how many when only one of them have played.
I recall seeing a post that claimed we won more with McKay alone. However, it's completely irrelevant, you can't infer anything meaningful from this kind of analysis. There are numerous confounding variables that need to be accounted for to determine whether we play better with one key forward or two. My intuition tells me that a proper analysis would conclude that we're significantly stronger with both of them out there.

How disrespectful by Charlie and his management to say they want to leave for clubs that are really not desperate enough to trade for him. And make it public as we are perceived as weak.

I hope Graham wright comes out again and publicly say he is staying unless we get star players and picks back. In a really angry and forceful way.

Charlie pull your head in. Whether you stay or not now, i am off you.

Will cheer your exploits if you stay but it will be all business.

Ralph can pump up Gold Coast’s line all he wants, but let’s be real. Every time the Suns trot out a “not for sale” message it just makes people think there’s something there. If there was nothing to worry about they wouldn’t feel the need to say a word.

The Suns aren’t dumb. They know if they want to bring elite players in they’ll have to give upsome genuine talent. That’s just how list management works. So this “under no circumstances” stuff is pure posturing. It’s about leverage, trying to make sure they don’t have to pay overs for Charlie and/or Petracca.

In the end it’s going to come down to Nick Austin, Mick Agresta and Graeme Wright. They’re the ones who need to hold their ground and make sure any deal is done on our terms, in our best interests. This will get done.

It wont happen early in trade week so we have almost three weeks to wait.
ffs, we're talking about the Club that gave up pick 2 for Lachie Weller....

(might have been a 3rd rounder going back too?)

Would rather he say that privately as opposed to publicly

No need to for shit to play out in the media

I'm a big fan of Ethan Phillips, thought he was sensational for us this year in the VFL. I was openly disappointed when we didn't take him during the SSP along with McMahon.

The only reservation I have on taking him is that he's primarily an interceptor, rather than a lock down defender on the opposition's gorilla, so doesn't really complement Weiters down back.

We bring Young into the side to lock down the opposition's key forward and release Weiters, but that hasn't really worked.

There aren't really a lot of cheap options right now, given we've lost JSOS and now HO'F for the year. Someone mentioned Charlie Dean earlier, but he's even more injury prone than Marchbank. Blight's name gets mentioned a fair bit, but I'm tipping he ends up at Collingwood or even the Dogs, where there'd be more of a career pathway at his age.

Having said all that garbage, I'd still offer Phillips a rookie contract anyway. Too good to be wasting away in the VFL.

The mail up in Syd. is that clubs north of the Murray and north of the tweed are not as keen now. He is too much of a risk (fitness, attitude) as compared to hanging onto the younger A-liners they already have. I'm also told that we are not actively trying to get something done!

The manager has form, and GW is not going to put up with it!

The bit where he 'wiped' Carlton for the Bulldogs.

He retired from the AFL due to a particular set of circumstances. Carlton shut down any talk of a reunion.

Wiping us would be signing a long term contract and then wanting out.
Carlton wanted to put him on the inactive list where he could still be paid by us.

We did everything we could to have him stay with us. He rejected that. He had a signed contract and wanted out.

Yes, COVID was an extraordinary circumstance, but provision were made to accommodate his intransigence.

Despite all of this, he chose to retire but only till he could get on the Bulldogs list.

In theory what are the actual legitimate best offers the Cats could make?

We are wanting to trade Charlie at a value based on his Coleman form, but in reality we are dealing with his 2025 form, which is miles below. It's also more likely the 2025 form is what we'll get for the next 4 years if we hold him, so what is that worth?
