That sounds like pretty weak stuff for what the pain is you are describing.

Are you seeing a specialist? A lot of GPs are too paranoid about prescribing the heavier stuff and some aren't even allowed to.

Specialists obviously aren't cheap but in the end what price for your health?
Last time I saw a specialist, they recommended me a patellectomy. I’m not really game enough to have that kind of surgery.

Just keep looking for one who clicks with you. I know it can be hard. A lot can be useless but you just need to find the right one.

Have you been in Pregabalin (Lyrica)? That is a pain med I know a few people have been on.

It's not like the usual pain meds though. You need to take it for a few weeks for it to kick in. It's not like you take it and you feel better within an hour.

I used to get terrible migraines and still get the odd one. I found the opiods weren't much help. They'd make you feel OK for an hour or two but then wear off and you are back to square one. I don't bother with them anymore.

I haven’t heard of that one to be honest. Will look into it though. Cannabis tends to help me for arthritic pain, hence I’m an advocate for it but hard for me to get it. (Even though this post will be deleted, I know the rules, sorry in advance) :$

I think you'll be fine but I would mention Pregabalin (Lyrica is the brand name) the next time you see your Dr. It's worth a go, I've known someone who was in a pretty bad car accident and was on it for a while and they said it really helped them. As far as I know it's not that addictive so I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble getting it.

The medicinal marijuana is a legit medication these days, they take out whatever the stuff is that makes you high. I know of a few that are on it but can't remember what for. I don't think it was for pain but I really can't remember.

Conventional painkillers isn’t strong enough at times for my knee arthritis and for like Elmer_Hauser ’s gout

Voltaren Heat Gel does alleviate the pain my arthritic pain on my toes and ankle quite a lot but not so much for my gout.

Apparently acupuncture is meant to be pretty effective against gout.

I can control my gout better by drinking a lot less (beer) and eating better.

The arthritic condition is unpredictable though and flares up painfully and unexpectedly like a bitch

What do you mean by conventional? If you are just talking about paracetamol, asprin, ibuprofen etc that sounds like hardly enough for what you describe you are going through.

The heat gel does work a bit when I have a migraine but it is no silver bullet. At least for migraines.

I think I've only known one person who has tried that but not for gout and it didn't seem to do anything for them. Everyone is different.

I think diet is a big thing. Everyone always says that but not many take notice of it and just think "yeah, eat more veges". Plus a bit of exercise always helps. Everyone says that also but it doesn't have to be anything major. Just go for a walk for half an hour or something.

They are both things everyone says but I do think when I eat better I feel better.

Yeah stuff like that is what I mean by conventional

Get a referral to a pain management clinic.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital has one, though I'm sure others do too.

TheGoatBaron listen to frggr and get a referral. Do it straight away as there may be a wait to get in.

From what you are saying is seems like you are in a lot of pain but only taking over the counter meds. Even though it may "just" be over the counter taking that stuff all the time isn't good for you.

Are you even seeing a Dr? I would still mention Lyrica the next time you see one.

Also these pain clinics would probably put you on some sort of plan that could involved any combination of meds, physio and occupational therapy.

Only thing is, I’m 3hrs west of Melbourne. This alone makes it hard. Not sure what pain management clinics Warrnambool has though. Will have to look it up

However, my GP recommended me to try hydrotherapy for my anxiety and balance issues I have when : if I get on the NDIS.

hydrotherapy is good, take it up if you get the opportunity.

Just try and find out what sort of help is around you and get on the waiting list. I think you need some sort of specialist, just my opinion.

Do you feel you get much help from this GP? I've given up on a few over the years as some can be very dismissive and just want people through the door.

She’s been the best since that Sth African one I had when I did my knee in 2012. She actually listens to people’s issues. She’s doing her best to get me on the NDIS

How does getting on the NDIS work? Surely your GP knows you best and they should take their word about what's going on.

Does the NDIS have it's own Dr's you have to go through? If so that sounds so dodgy, they don't know your history and would just be getting paid to say "no" to everything.

I’m not sure yet how it fully works. But if you say do an injury and need surgery and you live alone, you can get aid equipment via the funding to help you recover

I’m not sure about having its own Drs though. Rather stick with the one I have unless I need to see a specialist.

sportsmaniac89 would tell you more about it

After talking about it with my GP today. I think I will. Do you take it yourself?
nah, my step dad had it YEARS ago for a cricket injury and it did wonders for him.

I was thinking about that one for a while. The last thing I would wan't anyone operating on is something like my back. I would be too freaked out that something could go wrong. But then I hear stories of how well surgery turned out for people who have had it.

TheGoatBaron if your knees are so bad maybe surgery is something worth considering? Maybe go through all the pro and cons with your Dr. You may have nothing to lose.

I’ve already had 4. Not sure if I’ve mentioned that

There’s been a stray cat that has been coming inside my house this past week. It’s pissing me off. I was fast asleep until it entered my bedroom. Went to the shire today about it. Hopefully hear back from a ranger soon
