Who do people think has better attributes to play wing?

X Taylor or Tom Brown?

I think if we look at essendon for trading whether it's wce or us to split picks with them, the most likely outcomes are this.
If draper is band 1 l, they'll have 5 6 7 assuming wce have 1 2.
I could only see 6 7 maybe 5 7 getting traded for pick 1 or 2, realistically it would be 1 unless essendon knew who wce were picking.
Similar to richmond if they wanted pick 4 I think it would be pick 7 they would offer (i also think it would be a struggle to get essendons future 1st.)
If draper gets band 2- unless merrett is traded for another top 10 pick, i can't see them trading up as they still have a lot of glaring list needs and 2 firsts inside the top 10 should help address this (like a big bodied mid and defender for eg.).
They are more likely to attempt to package the end of first round draper pick to try and move up from 5 to 4 in that scenario if it the player they want is available (which i wouldn't be a fan of)

Not sure. I just don't think we can play him, Hopper and Taranto in the same midfield. So it would force some thinking around do we look to pro-actively trade out one of those guys. Or move one to HF etc. Not necessarily this year, but with Sharp pretty much ready to go, you might have to make a tough call in 12 months time on a Hopper etc.

I like Sharp. I think he's a safe bet. I suppose the challenge is trying to project how a player playing u18's will translate into AFL.

You mention the name Cotchin - I know you're saying "like", not equal in quality - but I think he could be much closer to Jack Graham than Trent Cotchin. And for the record, I think JG is a good defensive mid who will likely play 250+ AFL games. But we were pretty comfortable letting him go.

If our recruiters see him with a similar ceiling, the question then is whether you take him anyway as best available. Or swing for the fences for the high upside guy. Or reach a little for the "type" me arguably need more (Grjl, Lindsay, Taylor et al). Or, if you rate 3 or 4 of those types similarly, and a slide back to a pick 10-12 near guarantees you get one of them, AND you get an extra first round pick next year... You'd have to really like the guy(s) on the table at 4, OR see a large gap not only over that "next" group of options, but also against next years draft/trade potential.

Sharp projects as a top end mid - JGTI was pick 53. I don't see Sharp as a Cotchin quality player, but similar in how he plays the game. Great leadership as well. The other major thing for me is that he would be a great foil for Lalor and Smillie. Sharp's one wood is insane pressure and ball distribution. The other 2 OK, there but you really want them getting the next ball from the contests as much as possible. Fantastic combo.

Saying all that I reckon Sharp would be worth about pick 10 in last year's draft. And I would have Hotton well before him. ... We did so well having our down year and trade out in 2024.

That we have TT, Hopper and Prestia is irrelevant to our picks. Prestia is gone next year. 3 to 5 years and TT and Hopper are getting too old. And maybe Hopper goes this year anyway (we'll see if it happens)

Re other types of players (Grilj etc) we should split the pick and trade down if we go that way. (If we can get a F1 and still get someone good this year then sounds great.) But anyway, we can draft/trade/FA in outside types much more easily than good mids or talls.

The core issue for me is the longer term one of having a top end midfield for a long stint contending. If our KPFs take about 3 years to be fully AFL ready then around 2028/29 we should be competitive in a big way. That's when you want to have a long term midfield that can stand up to the best. It doesn't matter if we look weird for a few years while it all sorts itself out. What matters is that around 2028 we have a fully rounded squad with talent where it matters, a great attitude and then a very large window opens for a decade.

Just to add onto this: it sounds like Hopper's management is looking to see if clubs are interested in taking on Hopper. Not sure if a willing club has emerged though, but doesn't stop his management to, effectively, shop him around.

Well I guess that Hopps would like more success. Good luck to him. I actually wouldn't be upset if he got a suitor and we got a decent trade. Would sort of free up our midfield, and we get another pick.

Wouldnt be surprised if Prestia gets a lot of sub gigs this year like Breust did. Is another coach on the bench and can come on fresh and have an impact late in the game.

People keep assuming split the pick means four for pick ten and twelve

Far more likely to be a slide situation like the pick that ended up being McCauliffe where we go four for six and a pick in the twenties (this year or next year) and then if we still have multiple players we like available we slide again and accumulate more picks

Also this boards obsession with players being able to play on the wing is bizarre

I think everyone's worried about the wings because we don't have a single one on the list who is good enough or projects to being good enough.

CDT is getting no love at all, I don’t think we’ll select him even if we keep picks 1 and 2.
Your Eagles board might be keen to know that, as of about a fortnight ago, the Eagles hadn’t even shown any real interest in CDT.

I was quite surprised to hear that, but it comes from a source very close to CDT.

Essendon have shown the greatest interest in him, as have the Tiges, albeit not at the level of the Bombers.

No one is using pick 4 on Taylor.
Don’t think it’s as far fetched as some believe.

Clubs super keen on him I believe.

Wouldn’t be there at a split pick IMO

Might be there at a pick 8 if we shuffle down slightly with the hawks

We are aware. As far as I know we haven’t even spoken to him. We are known for pulling shit like this though then picking the player. Bombers love both CDT and Duursma, if they offer 5,6,7 and their F1 for 1,2 i’d pull the trigger.

If CDT is still on the board at 3,4 it will be interesting to see if you pick him.
