Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

If Suns think their window is now. This trade seems a win/win/win.

Gives Suns the mature proven version of what they are losing and more points.

Suns > Petracca & Curnow & TDK Pick
Dees > Flanders & Pick 31 (GC)
Blues > Humphrey & Walter
JUH is much cheaper than Charlie and that rumour is circulating.

Much lower cost, high risk but with a potential high return over a longer period.

IF Charlie is staying, I hope he takes this as a reality check about how other clubs view him.

Nice to have if cheap is different then we will move heaven and earth.

Charlie is a superstar when he is on, but he is not on enough for other clubs to see him as worth selling a farm for

I don't even know if it's the superstar part, it's just no club willing to sell the farm for a 29 year old that showed no form this year and has had injury concerns.

I think we'd be pretty livid as a supporter base if we as a club gave up the farm for a player like that, if roles were reversed.

If he wanted this move, it really needed to be a couple of years ago.

Did anyone see the tik tok Sam walsh just posted on the Carlton tik tok?

Tour of Chelsea soccer club with frnak the tank, Fogarty, cow, cotters in tow

But I could have sworn there was paddy Dow and an Adam cerra look a like were there too

Paddy come back?
They’re good mates, ex or on-going housemates. Traveled in off-seasons before.

FTT, Cotters and someone else (IIRC) were traveling together post-season.

Edit: #3 it was Binnsy (HUN called him Cowan, who may have been with them).

They can’t control what the media spruik, to sell papers and get views.

Of course they can control it. The media have told us that Charlie was open to a trade in his exit meeting. Where did that come from? They told us that Charlie came back from overseas and said he wanted out. Where did that come from? We get a daily narrative of Charlie being desperate. These things don't come from an imagination. The source is obviously his management.

All we should be hearing is that Charlie would like to get out of the Melbourne bubble (allowing for interstate or Geelong), but recognises a deal will be hard to do, and is happy to stay at Carlton with his teammates that he loves. Instead, it has been played out that Charlie is desperate to leave (implying his position at Carlton is untenable), and created the narrative that Carlton are the bad guys creating a toxic environment, and holding a player to ransom.

How many trust Charlie to play his guts out for the club if he stays now? I don't. I'm hopeful, but very wary.

I think people need to seriously temper their expectations on what we'll get back for Charlie. And the talk of letting him rot in the twos is absolute idiocy and I'm glad some of you don't run the club.

charlie's form will largely dictate whether or not he rots in vfl. if no trade happens, and he sooks and stinks it up, the club won't have much choice. i think he'll be motivated to avoid something like that, as i mentioned earlier. his personal brand risks taking a hit if he's running around in vfl (mind you, being on the sidelines didn't do bailey smith any harm).

These footy award nights are always a bit loose… I heard a story about Gerard Whateley throwing hands and eventually dropping Tom Barrass, then he had Weddle in a headlock on the floor. Whole party had to step in before he let go.

He'd struggle to knock the froth off a beer

My take: The media and other clubs are severely underestimating Charlie’s worth.

He is easily a top 10 player in the league when healthy. Would have had a three peat of Coleman medals if not for that injury vs GWS last year. He plays a position KPF that demands a massive premium and a super rare talent with only one other player in the league Jeremy Cameron arguably around the same level. He is in his prime and on top of all that he is contracted for 4 more years!

It’s a huge loss for Carlton if we let him go. We’d need to get huge value in return or hold him to his contract if we don’t. If I’m GW, the only way I’m sitting at the trade table for each suitor is:

1. Gold Coast: a combination of Walter, Humphrey or King or no deal (looks like they’ve accepted it’s not happening by enquiry after JUH)

2. Swans: one of Heeney or Gulden need to be part of the deal or walk away

3. Cats: a combination of Holmes, SDK Osullivan, Neale. (Won’t happen in my opinion)

If Charlie leaves he’ll be kicking 60+ goals per season for the next 5 years, probably win flags and will make us look silly like Josh Kennedy did at WCE or Betts at the Crows.

If he stays who knows we’ll likely have a new coach in 12 months which could convince Charlie to buy back in. Hoping he stays, knowing no club will stump up appropriate value.

I just don't know how the Saints do this without inevitably losing young talent who want pay commensurate with their abilities

a couple of options

win premiership - these players will stay for success. maybe the higher paid players will be happy to fillet a little off their contracts for sustained success. edit: you can say what you like about his success as a list manager, but sos is quite forward thinking with his tactical approaches on building a list.
don't win premiership - list manager jumps ship
