Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Elliot's offer from the Pies is something insane like $450k, I read - so maybe he's moving for something reasonable / average like $500/600k. Still think we should get in on that action. Even just to stop him from utterly murdering us like he finds a way to every year.
Yep. Could barely afford his Corona’s and Tattoos on $450k.

I’ve never understood how “front ended” is a factor.
It’s a set terms contract with incentives/bonuses add in.

If it’s $5m over 5yrs & the club then decides (& the players accepts) to pay more early (to balance the cap) does it not still have to be for the entire amount for both parties?

By that I mean for example - club pays $1.5m for the first 2yrs - so it’s 3m in 2yrs with $2m to be paid for the last 3yrs.
If the play leaves in yr 3 - he owes them $1m, he hasn’t performed to the contract so he would owe them the balance if he wants to go.
If a player is leaving they would have to “balance” the contract, surely they can’t just run and pocket the extra
Charlie would absolutely be able to take the money and run if we trade him. We've officially paid him more in the first years. It's the risk we take balancing the books this way. The million cash wouldn't be the loss that hurts though, the savings in the salary cap are. We've paid him extra the last couple of years and would then be missing out on benefitting by having a cheap dual Coleman medallist running around.

Note- I've got no idea on Charlie's contract, just talking front loading in general and assuming Charlie's is.

Would getting Elliot stuff up any of our compensation picks?

Just heard listening to Fireball, Tom Morris suggested that there's been whispers about Choco Williams and Carlton. Though he did tamper that by saying he said he's not sure that ends up happening.

Wonder if there's any substance to the whispers, he'd be a good get imo.

I’d love to have that confirmed by someone who knows that as fact (not throwing shade - just saying I’d like it confirmed), if that’s the case clubs would be ripe for huge exploitation - sign with a shit club with heaps of cap room, get paid more early then u would go to a better club, still at your market rate and u would make extra.
Not saying players would think that way, but there agents/managers would

Jon Ralph reporting we are not willing to offer anything close to the money offered by Saints for Flanders.

Also said Swans seem most likely for Curnow and they are willing to part with two first rounders. Also, seemed to propose Hayward would be added to the deal for Curnow. Still also states Carlton's view he is not up for trade.

I thought April fool's day for the afl always fell on the first day Free Agency?

No chance

Hmmn not sure. If Pies are only offering him $450k (below average wage) he's not going to generate any compensation for them if he leaves via free agency, so maybe we throw them a pick in the late 30's or 40's to ensure we don't impact compensation.

They have Reid, Hayes, McKay, Blakiston and Ridley. They wouldn't jeopardise a draft hand like theirs with another key defender.

They'll take two midfielders if they're smart. Rosa seems more switched on than Dodo
All of the players you listed have question marks on them. Everyone in the AFL knows that we'll be matching a bid for Dean within reason, so they wouldn't be jeopardising their draft hand at all.

Whilst I agree that they need mids and it's unlikely they'll bid on Dean, I wouldn't be ruling it out entirely.

It's a fact harry. Clubs are balancing salaries between years all the time. Players don't pay back the extra the got front loading if the leave early. Same as clubs don't pay the missing part on a back ended deal when a player leaves. The club they're moving to either accepts the contract or the previous club keeps paying them partially for the remainder of the contract (Collingwood with Treloar and Grundy).

What are the first rounders ? With Hayward I reckon sounds like not a bad start ?? (but then I'm not a negotiation machine like others on here :D )

I feel like we need a key forward in any deal don't we?

Need Logan McDonald (Swans), Jed Walter (GC), Shannon O'Neale (Geel) as a minimum in any deal I would have thought.

So you have no proof and are assuming
Tom Cruise What GIF

Is that your opinion (based on what u think) or an actual fact - as in has multiple reputable sources/first hand knowledge of an SME etc.
