Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Out of the leadership group for sure (prob shouldn’t have been in there to begin with).
Agree on the marketing pool drying up too.
As for Charlie’s Crew, slowly need to integrate a newbie into the role. Maybe EH if he sticks around..
Lol Charlie's Crew -> Charlie Crew

Or this guy
winning charlie sheen GIF

It’s a long bow, but Charlie taking less money might make him more attractive to an interested club - if he’s not taking up as much salary cap it leaves that club able to attract and pay more for a free agent.

Not sure that means a club is more likely to offer Carlton a better deal but that’s all I got..
Lol he front-ended and is now on way less. And that's half the problem. Maybe they tried to "renegotiate" and the club said to GTFO.
His "less money" would still be more than what he's on now.

My take: Charlie stays, but we should let him go. Not the type of person/player we want around the club moving forward.

100% agree with this sentiment. It would be better to trade him if he has a divisive attitude. Someone must cough up the chocolates for it to get done though, and not just trade picks, serious players that fit our needs.

For the people disagreeing with this...

If you want to hold Charlie to a certain standard about "being committed", then it is only fair to do the same to every single player on our list. Especially those who don't seem to buy into the message of driven success.
Aren't we doing that? And he's the one who's looking about it?
TBH, it's not even being committed. It should be personal pride and professionalism.

I’m genuinely starting to believe that NWM has told them he is 100% gone after these two years, and they are just going balls in to win a flag in that window. Some of these contracts won’t look quite as bad if they have his $2 mill off the books from 2018 onwards

Was about to say the same thing. SOS knows he’ll have a spare $2Mil in two years time.

True, but it’s more about what the club (eg. Suns) would have to pay to him.

Instead of forking out say $1.2m+ to entice him over, if he was happy to accept $700k (which might be what he’s on now?) - the Suns would be $0.5m in front. For a marquee player and money through the gate plus marketing, it’s a bargain for them and a salary cap benefit.

Don’t be stupid. They are not ‘all the same’.
They don’t make the mistakes that he made with Petracca, which was much worse than what’s happening with Charlie.

It’s just that he hasn’t learned from that mistake.
What ever happened with Petracca last year has nothing to do with Charlie.

What mistakes has he made?
And what proof do you have it was him?

Everything is a hypothetical atm, but if SK #7 went to GC, and we did trade CC to GC, would we prefer Humphrey and #7, to Walter and #7. Personally, I'd prefer Humphrey and #7, but that leaves a question about tall forwards... just wondering...
When in doubt - always go for the bigger body - runts win you nothing ever.

I’ve never understood how “front ended” is a factor.
It’s a set terms contract with incentives/bonuses add in.

If it’s $5m over 5yrs & the club then decides (& the players accepts) to pay more early (to balance the cap) does it not still have to be for the entire amount for both parties?

By that I mean for example - club pays $1.5m for the first 2yrs - so it’s 3m in 2yrs with $2m to be paid for the last 3yrs.
If the play leaves in yr 3 - he owes them $1m, he hasn’t performed to the contract so he would owe them the balance if he wants to go.
If a player is leaving they would have to “balance” the contract, surely they can’t just run and pocket the extra

There is no way Saints could give up #7 for Flanders! Insanity. Surely won't happen.

Beware of the guy that wants midfield time but has never been able to crack into one.

depends on the contract, but i'd be shocked if there were any balancing out tbh

Walter and #7.

Walter would be a higher priority to us if Charlie left, and lower priority to Suns than Humphrey.

If Elliott is off to the GCFC, do they have the coin for Charlie??
Dynamic forward line with those 2 additions.
Elliot's offer from the Pies is something insane like $450k, I read - so maybe he's moving for something reasonable / average like $500/600k. Still think we should get in on that action. Even just to stop him from utterly murdering us like he finds a way to every year.
