Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Anyone got any happy rumours?
You won't need to trade for Hayward (according to Ralph at HSun);

Carlton offered Hayward six years last season for free agent Hayward but he eventually re-signed with the Blues.

FWIW last 5 seasons Hayward has never kicked lower than 25 goals per season (best of 41 in 2024) and has led our I50 tackles in 3 of the last 5 years.
Decent figures for that unrewarding HFF role.

Also perhaps worth noting a poster on our board has mentioned Curnow,Florent & Hayward are all with Connors mgmt (Ralph's 'industry sources'?) and that Florentt & Hayward are good mates (drafted in the same year and own a drinks company together).

Cheers.

Yep. Hayward is a very good player and nearly got to us a couple of years ago.

"Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward has signed a long-term contract extension until at least the end of 2029.

This guy? Who signed a 5 year contract less than 15 months ago?

Matty411 put up this trade scenario the other night, which now seems fairly reasonable if we're trading with Sydney.

Crystal ball time 🔮

After all the posturing and negotiations, where do people think Charlie will end up in 2026 and if he moves, what's the final deal?

Closest to the pin gets to change their name to Nostradamus.

I'll go first.

Swans on a 7 year deal in a 3 club trade with WC netting us Pick 2, a Swans future 1st, Chesser, Dattoli and Florent. Our TDK compo also moves.
If I'm reading it correctly:

Curnow >> Sydney >> Dattoli, Florent, pick 10, 2026 1st

Dattoli, Florent, Chesser, pick 2, 2026 1st (Syd) >> Carlton >> Curnow, pick 9

Pick 9, pick 10 >> WCE >> pick 2, Chesser

So we get two of our rumoured trade targets completed in this package, leaving Buku and Reidy for late/future picks. Florent becomes the steak knives, Swans would appear to be happy to move his contract on. The possible hiccup is that Swans end up top 4 with Charlie next year and their future 1st becomes diluted.

We give up a bit, but I reckon our list management team - including Wright - would love to get another high draft pick again this year, as well as Dean and Ison.

All in saying is if we finish bottom 4 next season. Walsh is uncontracted and afree agent. Clubs will come for him. Why would he choose to stay?
Mate you were saying we have lost all A grade talent except Weitering. Bit early to be worrying about that. Especially with what Walsh said about wanted to commit to the club in recent weeks/months

So if Charlie leaves. Where do you think we're going to finish next season with only Harry as our key forward and Weitering the only Key Defender.

The point is don't let your A graders become free agents. Then should they choose to leave the club can get maximum return.

I agree with this, in theory.

In practice, most half decent players will sign a contract up until they are FA eligible.

Even if they have zero interest in leaving, it gives them maximum contract leverage as they are hitting their peak.

You almost be silly to sign a long-term contract at year 5-6, unless the club offered you something massive or you had injury concerns.

I'm not going to make predictions about next season until I see all of the list changes in the trade/draft period across the competition.

You are correct. That's why list management is critical. If the predictions are correct and we finish bottom 4. Voss will be sacked. Hard to see us keeping Walsh if that occurs imo.

We should keep Charlie for another season. His value will increase as clubs get more desperate just like they did with Gibbs.
That’s the Dodo theory - how did that work out for them?
Yes, it’s a different contract situation but another year on his body isn’t going to increase his value

I'm not against holding Charlie but the idea that he will definitely be worth just as much or more next year doesn't make much sense. Will be 30 going into the 2027 season.

That didn't effect Gibbs value at a similar age?

No thank you to Will Hayward. We made a big offer to sign him last year before he re-signed with Sydney. So why should we entertain trading Charlie Curnow for a player who didn’t want to play for us not that long ago. We should only recruit players who are all in on playing for our club.
