Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Yep, this type of dog sh!t with moves trying to be set up middle of the season whilst in-contract (L/T) and in the leadership of the club is poor form.

Sorry Charlie, Geelong is not happening for you under our watch and the signed contract. That’s what you get for being a conniving campaigner.
Yep, **** him and Bazwanka…

Don't assume that the "A" grader we are chasing will come from the club Charlie goes to. So many scenario's to play out and Cats wouldn't throw hat into ring unless they think they can believe they can get it done

This has been months in the planning and we need numerous picks for F/S, Academies and other traded players like Khamis, Cheeser, Reidy, Florent and a couple more.

Flanders is a no. We won't even offer him a contract

Deep down we know the Charlie deal could unlock numerous options for us. As an example could help us get Walker next year along with Top 3 pick this year and a couple of good role players. Not to mention room in SC to go after Free Agents over next few years

Told by so many people at weekend that Charlie has made it clear he doesn't want to go back.

Wright is looking at this as a 2 year list balancing exercise with most done this year. He rates our youth especially with Jagga, Dean, Ison and Walker being added. Middle tier is his biggest focus
Thank you!
It’s shit Charlie wants out but if the opportunity is going to be capitalized on well, then that goes a long way to having some faith in the “plan”.
Don’t think anyone can argue that ‘Mid tier’ isn’t an area where theres room for improvement & that more talent is also being sought 👍

Charlie's may be keen to get to Geelong but l can see Geelong making Marshall their priority, Stanley is close to retirement, Cameron & Neale are fine not sure they will see Curnow as a priority if they need to give up 1-2 Quality players even involving a third party.
Not having any valuable draft picks does not help them.
The fact that Geelong have played Stanley for close to 10 years, compared against their keeness to bring in elite players in other positions (most relevant Cameron at FF), suggest to me that they clearly don't value the ruck position, so I would suspect if given their choice, they'd prefer Charlie over Marshall.

Apart from a gift from Sydney in 2022, they've been pretenders rather than contenders for over a decade.

Might be time for them to re-think the strategy. Rhys Stanley is part of the problem.

Last time they were a genuinely good side was with Brad Ottens.

Hard to see what draft picks or players Geelong can muster up Soap to get us an A grader.

Their draft hand this year is not great, with picks 17, 35, 53, 71 collectively only worth 1,245 points.

Player wise, they can’t afford to lose any quality players with so many veterans on the wrong side of 33 next year - including Dangerfield who will be 36, Stanley 36, Blicavs 35, Cam Guthrie 34, Stewart 33, Cameron 33. Duncan 34 has just retired.

If they throw their hat in the ring it will be a very small hat.

Would we/SYD do ‘25 & ‘26 1st rounder + Hayward & Campbell for CC?
4 for 1…

100% but I doubt they would give us both. I think 2 firsts + 1 of Campbell / Hayward (prefer Hayward) is about as good as we realistically do. If we want another player, we probably have to hand a pick back the other way.

As much as I don't like him, I think we are reading too much into Mackie's comments. Seems Charlie approached Geelong first. They aren't going to outright reject him. I think they know doing a deal is next to impossible unless the situation becomes untenable. Smart of them to keep the door open but not make any commitments.

Don't think there's anything nefarious going. Think the situation is exactly as Mackie said. I doubt they are desperate for Curnow as much as he'd help them. They have 2 good key forwards and bigger gaps in their list elsewhere.

I also think Charlie and his manager would know how hard a trade to Geelong would be to execute since Curnow reportedly told Chad Warner a trade to Sydney would be tough and they have way more assets.

Sydney is determined to add Carlton’s Charlie Curnow after he met with Cox before leaving for an overseas trip.
But having returned home he has met with new Blues CEO Graham Wright and has been told he will be playing at Carlton next year.

Sounds like much to be excited about over the next 2-3 weeks.
