Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

If we get pick 10 off Sydney as part of a Curnow deal, I wonder if West Coast consider 9&10 for F1&19 (Assistance Pick). Maybe we swap our F2 for their F3 too.

Let's them load up on talent with 4 top 10 picks this year. Even if they finish last next year, they likely don't have access to the top 2 anyway (Cochrane and Walker). Plus gives them an incentive to climb a few spots and make it look even better for themselves.

While for us it gives us a pick that pretty much guarantees Walker, even if they do climb a bit. Can then use 19+20 (Silvagni Pick) to match Dean bid and later picks for Ison. Best case next year they finish last, and we use the pick before Walker bid, getting another player, whilst reducing the points required for CW.

Really depends how both clubs rate the two drafts. Usually, the value of current picks is higher than future ones, but next year's draft looks good.

Doubt there's any chance they'd accept that. I wouldn't even take 9+10 for their F1 if I were WCE.

Random thought - and this may have been covered in this thread or others before - but have we heard anything recently about Tyson Gresham?

Seems a given that Ison will come to us but don’t hear too much about Gresham? Wondering whether the club has cooled on him or not?

Doesn't have many AFL traits and is extremely small. Works hard but that only gets you so far in professional sport unfortunately.

If I'm their list management the only way I'm parting with my F1 is if they get a bonafide gun to partner with Harley from next year on.

That's a player that will help them start winning games - more than they are now - and becoming more competitive from jump

The only player in a Carlton trade that I see that happening with is Warner via Sydney.

If we do end up with their F1 you can guarantee they're confident they will finish above Richmond, Essendon and a couple of other lowly squads including probably us.

They've made some errors of misjudgment in list management but they're not completely dumb.

Come on.
0.0000001% chance Max Holmes will be traded.

Jim Carrey Chance GIF

Charlie also said he’ll definitely be at Carlton next year, don’t believe anything they say, especially when supporters ask them if they’re going to stay, what do you expect them to say “I’m assessing my options so we’ll see!”

it’s a business and they’re all in it for themselves these days.
It's also a two way street. It's on any employer to create something people want to be a part of. Carlton has been poor at this.

Despite this Sam seems genuine in his passion and commitment. There should be ample money to match offers, there should be captaincy opportunities....it's up to the club to make it happen.

The points associated with picks are just there for matching bids. I don't think it makes much sense to use them to calculate the value of an overall trade.

I think it does make sense, but happy for you to disagree.

If you’re not using the draft value index to value trades, then the only other alternative is pick differential, ie: how many spots did you gain/lose in a trade. But it’s much more valuable to move 5 spots in the first rounds than in the third.

The points are used to match bids, but the value of the points are relative to the value of the picks - it’s not a linear value, it reflects that higher picks are more valuable than lower ones. But you can’t ignore the lower value picks that come back in trades. Clubs spend a lot of time haggling over those later pick swaps to balance deals, so they obviously value them and look to enter the draft with the best hand they can after trades.

Once draft night hits, I think the importance of both goes out the window when the pick isn’t a number, but is a player. Its why clubs pay considerable overs to move up a few spots, because the know that it means access to a particular player.

This is why I don't think points mean much when it comes to valuing trades. Because teams are using picks to target specific players. Teams won't trade a top 5 pick for two picks in the teens just because it gives them more overall points. Because it doesn't matter if you aren't matching bids. They would only do it if there were two players they knew they could get later in the 1st round that they wanted

Let's see if Carlton can build something that players don't want to leave.
We had a great strike rate with keeping players. Unfortunately, looks like that was built by overpaying and stroking egos.

Hopefully some improved standards and playing some good football means the players we want to buy in will actually stick around for the right reasons moving forward.

We already tried that, and it's part of the reason we find ourselves in this predicament. We paid overs for too many inconsistent players (Williams, McGovern, Martin), and would've paid for more if SOS had his way.
Stkilda are paying overs for better players and did not give up first round draft picks for cerra, saad
